if you look at the first team malachy started and the last you will see he did bring on new lads. we cry about this a lot. and i am guilty myself. id love to see a number of boys tried but if you actually sit back and look he did blood new lads blooded them slowly and eased them into in which is a must after all not everyone is a clifford who can just jump into a senior team. anyway im sure everyone will be told now its a clean slate for anyone who has notions of playing with the county . its up to them to put there hands up and say i want the jersey. farneygael (Monaghan) - Posts: 172 - 22/09/2019 12:30:29 2238225 Link 1 |

Be under no illusions. The young lads coming through are not to the standard needed to compete in division 1 and compete for all Ireland's. It's a simple fact. There is no mc manus drew Wylie jap finalay Tommy Freeman coming through. We banked on Jack mc carron and hes not to standard needed and he's miles ahead of the rest of the pack so....... monaghanmad (Monaghan) - Posts: 215 - 24/09/2019 16:40:37 2238817 Link 1 |
Be under no illusion that this is one of the most defeatist posts I've seen on here. Ever. I have two points to make. 1. Players develop at different stages. Paul Murphy in Kerry couldn't make the Kerry minors, and he was man of the match in 2014 All Ireland final. Conor McManus was a wing back when he started with Monaghan, Those two examples tell us that there is no way of knowing this just yet until they are tested. 2. Culture. How is it that some counties always seem to produce good top players and remain competitive year in year out? Culture and attitude. Fostering a good culture and attitude within the county is what breeds success. The children born in Kerry are no different to children born in Monaghan. They just have a better culture and attitude to football there. Players breaking into a Division 1 football team are breaking into a team with a seriously competitive culture and its my belief that harnessed well this will stand us in good stead. supermon (Monaghan) - Posts: 1071 - 25/09/2019 10:44:29 2238998 Link 4 |
Poppycock. 2018 and 2019 Minor Ulster Champions 2013 Minors (so mid-20s now) Jack is 27, so hardly a young thing. There is plenty coming through and has been since the development squads got going. Monaghan are consistently in Ulster finals at underage over the last 5 years. Monaghan are put the conveyor belt in place to compete at Div 1/2 level for the next decade anyway; a far cry from 2004/2005. Monaghan08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 176 - 25/09/2019 15:37:32 2239121 Link 2 |
While preliminary round fixture isn't ideal, you'd have to say you'd take that side of the draw any day if you were offered it. We have left a good number of final's behind in recent years with flops on the day. Can't afford them this year. supermon (Monaghan) - Posts: 1071 - 09/10/2019 10:33:33 2242275 Link 0 |
Think it's a good draw and should keep a lot of players interested in sticking around for another year. If wed got donegal away followed by tyrone woouldnt be much enthusiasts about. There are a lot of wrongs to be righted on our side of the draw if we can find some form which isn't a given.

A glamour tie to start the second banty era. A good local derby with plenty of local and media interest. It's just what banty would have wanted. monaghanmad (Monaghan) - Posts: 215 - 09/10/2019 11:26:18 2242294 Link 0 |
About as glamorous as a weekend in Treacys hotel

Eddie the Exile... your dislike of Banty is getting a bit tasteless at this stage.

Was up in the old town recently don't think banty will win too many popularity awards about the place. I'll always support the lads no matter what but this managerial appointment gets stranger by the day.

Exactly my thoughts, still don't understand how a panel sat down and thought he was the best candidate... nothing about his past 2 stints at intercounty management warrants the role of a team who have had great success in comparison to Meath and Wexford. Here's hoping he makes full use of the talented squad he has. the bar has been raised by MOR, so I hope it doesn't drop. MonaghanGlory (Monaghan) - Posts: 702 - 10/10/2019 18:57:27 2242637 Link 3 |

It's just a pity that freedom of information doesn't apply to county boards.
