Age Requirement

(Oldest Posts First)

What are people's thoughts on the talk about the required age to play senior football changing from 16 to 17. Not a fan of this

When is this likely to come in. I would be in favour of it as the 16 year olds I know would definitely not be fit for senior football

I think you should be still allowed to line out for the reserves if your needed, no question. Players who are good enough have always played senior at 16. I seem to recall reading Greg Blaney played football for Carryduff at that age. Then again, if this is an attempt to combat burn out then perhaps they should be strict with it.

i'd assume that if it gets passed then we could see it next season. I think that if you're good enough at 16 to play senior football then there should be nothing stopping you

Age shouldn't matter. If you are good enough you should be able to play. This could badly affect smaller clubs. I know loads of 16s that play senior soccer. It is something that the writers of these reports dont simply get - that even our best young stars play other codes and we should stop trying to get them to play less of our own codes.
