Westmeath defence

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What a truly remarkable stat that our hurlers were the only team in Ireland who did not concede a goal in any of the five league games. That is a true reflection on the defence. Paddy Maloney was excellent in every game, Jogger is up there with any full back in Ireland. Aonghus is a super centre back and a super captain. Cormac Boyle in Midfield is excellent in attack and defence as is Gary Greville who is a natural defender.
Gallagher and Power two very good corner backs too very consistent.

Mick is his usual positive self thought you weren't following Westmeath anymore

Ah lads, come on. What sort of opposition were we playing? In my opinion this is a weak Westmeath team compared to any of our Christy Ring Cup teams. We may well beat Carlow on Saturday but I cannot see us going any further. And as usual there will be talk of some moral victories in the Leinster championship later in the year

Ara lads, give a bit of support to the hurlers. Good to see a team developing. Good chance to get promoted. Plenty of positives.

Positives are few and far between in the county

Big game for us this weekend. Hard to see a positive result.

Mick,if you're not interested in hurling then why stick your beaky nose into the thread? This team is due to win this division, best of luck to them. And keeping clean sheets is a big plus,no matter the division, they're playing teams the same standard as themselves.

Basically if the hurlers win tomorrow, then all the hurling club championships are also pushed back by a number of weeks?

This promotion/relegation playoff is a joke. If you win the Division it should be automatic promotion

Its funny that on the county board website the footballers game v Offaly is listed more prominently than the hurlers FINAL!

Why is it so many people in this county put down the hurlers it's westmeath not kilkenny the lads are trainin 3/4 nights a week just as hard as the footballers there in the league final yet all this county and county board cares about is the footballers who are looking very likely to be relegated for what 3 or 4 season in a row gimme a break even the footballers received there 2016 gear 3 weeks ago yet the hurlers will be togging out today in old gear for the league final for the second year in a row Complete double standards if you ask me

Ah I think its because hurling is not a real sport. In fairness only about 5 counties play it in the country. In places like westmeath and carlow and louth and leitrim its only a recreational activity like table tennis or going for a jog a few days a week.

Well done to the hurlers.

No county gear, no second pair of fancy boots, no sun beds, but they get the job done.

Ridiculous that they face a playoff.

Six games no goals conceded wonderful work by keeper and six defenders.Aonghus and Jogger have been magnificent Craig yesterday man of the match. We are only one game away from division one and these boys have the heart to do it.
As for the nay sayers whilst the hurlers are one game away from the top twelve the other code are one game away from division four.Hopefully that won't happen but the ignorant posters on here won't increase the support in the North of the county foe the big ball

Dead right Jobber, and ignorance is exactly the word for the sneers, they're not Westmeath GAA supporters, whereas the majority of hurling based people follow the footballers too. Don't rise to them lads, they'll get bored when they don't get a reaction. Iarmhi iomanaiocht abu!!!
