Replying To wicklowsupport:  "I saw a lot of Paul Barden over the years as Longford and Wicklow met in league, championship and O'Byrne cup fixtures. Paul Barden was an outstanding football and if he played for one of the stronger counties like Dublin or Kerry, he would have won at least one if not more all star awards over the course of his career. He had everything: speed, ball skills, athleticism and team work. Leighton Glynn deserved an all star for his performances when Micko was in charge of Wicklow but while he got selected; he never had a chance of winning such an award. Personally, I don't think it is as big a horray as it was back in the 1990s due to the predictability, by and large of the selections. For me, John Heslin is one of the best forwards in Ireland currently but unfortunately, he won't an all star unless he moves to play with a strong county team. Maybe that is the way players will see it in future. It is happening at club level, how long before it is the trend at intercounty level?"

Replying To CiarraiMick:  "Its not about who your team beats ,its about how the player played and Tbf Ends Smith was outstanding this year.The all stars is supposed to be the best players over the year and Smith fully deserved his award imo.I think the selectors got it fairly right tbh.I though Shane Ryan unlucky (statistic wise he was best)but cant begrudge Ckuxton either.I though Sean O Shea a little lucky but overall i think its a good selection."

Replying To summerof09:  "You're right in saying an all star team is supposed to be about the best players over the course of the season but that's obviously not the case in the GAA. There is key criteria required to be selected for a GAA All Star: 1 How far your county travelled in the All Ireland championship (the further the better your chances), then 2. your individual performances matter. So yes it's all about how your team fares in the championship first and foremost. The fact that only nine non quarter finalists have been chosen for All Stars since 2002 tells you all you need to know. I was shocked on Friday night when Roscommon got one for the poor All Ireland championship they had but I wouldn't begrudge Enda Smith as he is an exceptional footballer. He's in the 1 %.

Please come back with some qualitative data, for in the end of the day, as CiarraiMick points out above the awards are not based on how the team performs, but on how individuals performed in their individual positions (a few exceptions have been made over the years). Obviously, the more exposure and games should be to the benefit of players. However, not always, a la Stephen O'Brien in 2019. If he have had been injured for the final, let's say, he'd probably have won an award but his performance let him down.

Please try to get over a Roscommon man winning one, with Meath nowhere even near the hind teat."
