Dublin v Kildare Leinster semi final 2013?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

contribution of the half forward line was excellent on Saturday , well done to the three of them , more needed from the inside line , I'd go with Smith at full forward if I was McGeeney as Roc will clean out Toc like he did in the league , with Johnston and Doyle in the full forwrad also , I think Kildare should play a conventional style of football , as Dublin will power through any blanket defence like they've done all year and Kildare will be isolated up front

Good post Murlo111, would agree with Smith coming in for O'Connor but wouldn't want Brophy dropped and can't see McGeeney doing it either. Full forward line will hopefully be Smith, Brophy and Doyle. Alternative might be Leper moving to full-forward who would maybe start dragging ROC around the place. As for a conventional footballing style, do you mean man for man? We'd be ate alive. I think with Dublin you either go very defensive or you push right up and go for it. The latter might be Kildare's best chance but that will be a big ask of the Kildare full back line if they get isolated.

Waynol ill take your word for it. But the mental side of it id say will be Gavin's biggest challenge. Im sure he can focus minds though

No cilldara14 I actually didn't see the game as I was away so I would admit I was just thinking out loud. But we've been cleaned out at full forward with big men against Dublin before and I was just speculating what else we could do. And in fairness to Leper when he's on it he has the ability to put in a man of the match display from almost any position on the field.

He has won All Irelands as player and manager so i'm sure he can keep the lads feet on the ground.

What worries me about the upcoming match is that while we scored 19 points against Offaly on Saturday night (the same as last year) we let in 1 - 12 (1 - 6 more than last year). This seems to signify that, allowing for the fact that Offaly have improved on their 2012 performance, our defence has disimproved. Going on this what will Dublin do to us, I fear a major hiding unless Geezer is able to work a miricle. The speed with which Dublin attack and the number of options they create is frightening. I hope we don't use the same tactics as we did in the league of packing the defence as this won't work.

This game is Dublins to lose tbh. It'll be close until the last 10 - 15 minutes and I expect the dubs excellent forward line to pull them away then.

Love the positivity from the lilly fans! for some reason as the four weeks go by I think Kildare will become more confident thats why Gavin was complaining about the four week gap if it was played in two weeks time the Dubs would probably took Kildare but four weeks is a good time to rectify like I said as the weeks go by im becoming more confident. Its championship football lads Kildare are hard beat on their day.

I really doubt that. Why would Gavin be worrying about Kildare? If he can set up his own team to play to their best then they will win regardless of how well we can play.

At what point did I say Gavin would be worried about Kildare?
what I did say was he complained about the gap between the westmeath and Kildare game
and what I believe is the gap gives Kildare more of a chance to prepare and make changes and work on things from the Offaly game where as if Dublin and Kildare was played in two weeks time the momentum would be in Dublins favour.

I don't think it does. We had six weeks from the Tyrone game to the Offaly game and the weak aspects of our performance (full back line left unprotected & goalkeeper's distribution putting us under pressure) were repeated. Two weeks is not going to make a whit of difference to the outcome of this upcoming match.

We can beat Dublin, but unfortunately short of the earth, moon, stars and Halley's Comet aligning in unison I can't see it happening.

A more potent attack, a more established midfield and more strength in depth should see them win this one.

We can certainly cause them problems and I wouldn't be surprised if we ran them close before they pull away to win by a few points in the final minutes.

Likewise though I wouldn't be surprised if they got an early goal and proceeded to steamroll right through us and over us.

I would be surprised though if we win.

If we can put in a good performance, get some more valuable experience into the youngsters, and implement a bit of a plan surrounding the midfield battle and kickouts then I think we can afford to be in a somewhat positive mood heading into the qualifiers. Avoid Tyrone and there's a chance we can put a decent run together.

With so many under 21 lads involved it's more of a transitional stage this year than any before under McGeeney (bar arguably his first).

good post if in doubt, sensible review--if its a transition type year I wonder if Ryan is primed to take over? I would like to see mcgeeney stay on, we are way more competitive under him than previous managers, no silverware but only 1 manager has done that in the last 30 years plus so can't really beat him with that stick and we were unlucky a few times.

Competitive against dublin and a decent qualifier run would not be a bad season.

Throwng the white flag in already, Kildare have a serious chance of beating the DUBS, who have a poor full back line and only i midfielder and a few selfish forwards.

@naasmanrhode - I think thats a great way of looking at it and I dont think its far off the mark at all.
