What's your own club Chick? You involved with minor at underage level? Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 161 - 05/01/2021 22:00:12 2326213 Link 0 |
Lads here totally overestimating our minor hurlers. We were heavily dependant on Eamon Cunneen and Cunningham to a lesser extent. Offaly beat us comprehensively in Mullingar and we could easily have lost to Carlow in the opening match. Noel Conaty had them fired up really well but this was an average team boosted by a couple of outstanding individuals. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 161 - 05/01/2021 22:04:31 2326215 Link 0 |

Very harsh, have yet to see two lads beat 15. The management did a great job with them and the couple of wins show there is a base there to build on ,its what we do with it from here is the issue. As a previous poster said Offaly were matched for hurling etc in the first half ,when they got a foothold in the second their greater physicality and fitness pushed them on . When you try and cram 3 years of conditioning etc into a squad in 5 months there was always going to be a bridge that was just to far. When was the last time a Westmeath minor team won 2 championship matches in the "A" , and as you say only two hurlers. Maybe some posters are "bigging" them up bit ,but you are being very harsh with that comment.

2 players can never win a game by themselves. There is talent in that group of players not limited to the 2 players mentioned. Defeated Carlow and should have been more comfortable having missed a penalty, had a goal disallowed etc. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 138 - 06/01/2021 16:16:05 2326321 Link 0 |
Definitely needs more that discussion, players born 2001 haven't gone any competitive football since U27 Championship 2018, some of the better players may get football with Junior D5/6 etc but the so called late bloomers are left waiting for football at there own age group, it is an age group that should have being prioritised earlier last year, all the time and resources invested into these players from 5yrs to 16yrs and the it is made easy for them to just give up and walk away!!
