County: Offaly Posts: 1993 686836 Any one care about the offaly clare match this weekend? thought we should win well enough but the team looks as poor a team as we'v had in a while A poor team as we've had in a while that played the poorest first half the county has ever seen. 1 point and I think about 8 or 9 wides in the opening 35 minutes, some of them from Niall Mc and Casey were very poor indeed. Started the half well but Clare seemed to pull further in front fairly easily, lucky to get a draw in end, then unlucky not to win it at the death with a Ken Casey free. Played reasonably well in extra time. From a purely footballing perspective it was a match which we should have gone into looking to win comfortably, on the day we can be grateful to have come out as winners. The biggest thing we can take from it is the sense of belief and passion shown in the second half that looked to have been gone from Offaly football for far too long, the first win in the qualifiers is a heavy burden off the players backs, and hopefully now they'll go into the next round with a bit more confidence. Hopefully too, it can restore a bit of faith in the supporters, more out the next day and who knows what could happen, just look to the hurlers last week as an example. Off to Portlaoise now, could turn into a good weekend for Offaly GAA yet... wild_biffalo (Offaly) - Posts: 91 - 26/06/2010 17:47:16 687763 Link 0 |
Offaly footballers mixed the good with the bad last Saturday, poor first half, looked aimless. The younger players introduced showed a bit of drive, and got us back into the game. When Clare went 7 up I thought that was it, but thanks to a late goal and a point we survived, and won in extra time. thelongridge (Offaly) - Posts: 1215 - 28/06/2010 12:03:11 689195 Link 0 |
Lads yez are missing the whole point of this thread. Louth for Leinster. Never so proud walking out of Croker in all my life, and whats better the Meath fans stayed on to support us. Were you there Bettystown? Cant see yez stopping us now. georgelee (Louth) - Posts: 523 - 28/06/2010 14:38:38 689582 Link 0 |
Ye have had the handiest run to a Leinster final ever, but I wish ye the best of luck. Judging by the display against Westmeath ye'll need it! curious George (Offaly) - Posts: 861 - 30/06/2010 10:58:25 691705 Link 0 |

yis are my favorites to get to the final this year lads.... i can't see louth playing as well as they did last year but if they did they have a great chance too. the only good thing about the one-sided draw is that it gives weaker teams great motivation for the year as they will believe they have every chance of getting to the final.
