I think the older players like O Neill and Bolton have been great and shown great leadership and simply can't be replaced at present. Sherry and o donoghue seem to have potential but for the rest of this year the experienced players deserve their places.

i wouldnt have expected ryan to have brought to many of the young players trough this year as id reckon he probably knows hes gone after the championship.
the new man will have that chance now playing div 3 football.
Fellas like c healy, p mescal, r hulihan, w fitzpatrick, n flynn, luke flynn could make the breaktrough. there will of course be others then goin forward from this years minor team in the years to follow. the futures bright. especially with p cribben, t moolick, e doyle and n kelly really stepping up as leaders.

I think we all expected that Jason Ryan would be gone after the championship. If Kildare can put in a good performance against Kerry on Sunday I think that the County Board will give him a new contract.

If. Ryan stays after a good performance then he needs to purge the panel for next year . The likes of Healy the flynns and especially mescal should be blooded. If anyone watches mescal they will see his quality.

Not sure if I'd advise Ryan to purge the panel of players who managed to beat a big team for the first time in over a decade!

I personally think last Saturday probably ensured Jason Ryan's job for next year should he wish to stay on. I don't think sunday will have a huge impact on his survival chances provided they are not destroyed which I don't think will happen at all.
Division 3 not an ideal scenario for us next year as we all know but it should allow the opportunity to blend in a few newcomers as mentioned above. Anyway lets worry about that when this year is over which hopefully won't be for a while

I feel d3 a great chance to blood new talent which appears to be there or emerging at least. I think Sunday will be a bad day at the office but eye should be on next year.

mick--no pleasing you! squad is probably the best we have available or those willing to be available-- are we to ditch the older heads like Paudie, Ollie, Flaherty, Smith and Leper-- would we be in a QF without them? Of course not. Ditch Jason and end up with a club manager likely, not the best strategy either. Ryan deserves credit for the cork win. mcgeeney couldn't get past them.

I think this thread has run it's course as events have moved on. You need a blend of youth and experience to win and we have a nice blend of that at the moment. A lot of the older players have left in the last 2 years, no need to get rid of any more. Check Paidi's stats for the last game, very impressive for an "older guy".

In fairness to Ryan he hasn't played the older players that I believe are past it much this championship like Conway, lynch and white.

Get the ball moving so Mick, give us your best 3 realistic managers and 10 new players who will greatly improve us. Not being smart, genuine question.

clear out requests are common after defeat but I never bought into the notion that there are 5 or 6 really good players who have been overlooked. The county just does not contain a large number of high quality players. In the current panel I'd drop nobody unless I have a replacement for them. Eg Paudie got 2 points from play on Sunday so he is a 100% nailed on starter next year unless we have 6 forwards who can get 3 from play. Have we had 6 who could do that in the last 50 years? Will we get out of div 3 with a load of 19-22 year olds?

I know we won't see anything new next year from Smith, Bolton and Leper but without better options what can we do. Youth isn't always the answer. Fionn Dowling has been on the panel for years but will he ever make the grade, hard to say.
