I do feel for clubs, especially smaller ones in terms of relegation but you do need a strong competition or else the last games in some of the groups could be of no consequence and some may not be played at all. galwaygoal (Galway) - Posts: 105 - 30/06/2020 09:51:09 2282341 Link 0 |
Why should there be no relegation?

A number of teams have put against relegation for this year

Have a read at this. CLG Cárna/Caiseal do have a valid point. Some players at clubs who work on front line will not represent their club for safety reasons this year. I can't see why the county board can't rid of relagation for this year and start a proper in 2021. Let the players and their communities enjoy their football this year. https://amp.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/sport/gaa/calls-for-galway-gaa-to-scrap-relegation-ahead-of-championship-draw-1008078.html?__twitter_impression=true galwayfan (None) - Posts: 747 - 30/06/2020 18:58:23 2282426 Link 0 |
An other issue is this. What happens to this club in Kilkenny? All players will have to quarantine for 14 days and I can guarantee that some of those lads will not feel safe coming back to training for fear of infecting their own family. This club might be small rural club with numbers such as Cárna/Caiseal that will not be able to compete if players won't risk coming back. Should this club be punished and relagated for something they have absolute no control over??

Yeah but no relegation means one of two things also happening. No promotion which is a disaster for clubs in intermediate and junior. Or else if there is promotion then each grade has too many teams next year. They are already trying to reduce the number of teams in each grade. We have too many senior teams as it is. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 821 - 01/07/2020 07:41:20 2282466 Link 1 |
The club season should be like this every year. Fast as furious as oppose to it dragging on from starting training in January to your last league game in October/November. No wonder some lads lose interest. hopballref (Galway) - Posts: 307 - 01/07/2020 09:49:13 2282489 Link 0 |
I agree with scrapping relegation, although I'm probably biased because my own club has a small panel. Keep promotion what harm would an extra team or 2 do. MairtinTomSean (Galway) - Posts: 45 - 01/07/2020 10:34:44 2282500 Link 0 |
personally id miss the GAA if it was ran off in such a time frame going forward. ideally id like to start back into pre season in April, and let competitive matches run May to Sept. 6 month year. people looking a 3 month year. what would we as players do with no GAA for 9 months :)

I never said to scrap promotion. We can always add to relagation next year.

Is it documented any where as to how the groups progress to knock out e.g. top 2 in every group etc... anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 137 - 01/07/2020 13:57:28 2282538 Link 0 |
Yes and as per my original post - that will mean there's too many teams in intermediate and senior next year. We have too many already without adding anther team to each grade.

But they could also include more teams for relagation next year.

Relegation is a must, but is it 2 up 2 down like last year or just the 1. mise87 (Galway) - Posts: 199 - 01/07/2020 17:32:24 2282579 Link 0 |
I was exaggerating slightly about a 3 month year but I definitely think a 6 month year would be the way forward. League should be played without county players as they have no interest in it since they took promotion/relegation out of it. The championship should then be ran every 2 weeks like this year. And clubs should go back training a month before first league game - not this nonsense of St Stephens day! hopballref (Galway) - Posts: 307 - 02/07/2020 11:45:38 2282681 Link 1 |
