Galway V Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

No need to panic, it is a one off. A bit like Liverpool losing 7-2 to Villa in my opinion. The 7 month lay off has not helped this group of players. We will regroup and beat the Dubs next weekend. There were a lot of good players missing. What happened to Damien Comer.

Every dog in the street could tell you who hasn't been putting in the sacrifices off the field, still going around partying like a hero when they've won nothing, letting lads down that have been putting in the effort. Wake up management and don't put trust in the v small minority behaving like that. They'll get skinned in every game, guaranteed. Happened yet again today.

P joyce has to take full responsibility..
James Horan bet him convincingly.
Poor team selection, our goalkeeper should have been taken off after 10 mins.. left on for full game..
Cleaned eight through our backs , no back up on the bench, left mulkerrin there.
Brannigan, Mc Daid, Sean Andy, Maher, Leonard, Burke, were terrible and should be sent packing..
Mayo were professional in build up , preparation, fitness hunger.. Galway are a shambles..
Kevin Walsh had a shape
P Joyce had no plan never mind a plan B..

Eh, what? We are not fit. We don't have a plan. Dublin will beat Galway. Easily.

Let's call a spade a spade here lads. We have had no kickout strategy now for a decade and have not had a solid keeper in all that time either. Surely its the first thing to be worked on or looked at. In our last number of championships we have had the option of Lavelle, Power, Breathnach, Healy and now Gleeson.
Is their not a keeper playing club football in Galway that is solid and can do the basics. I would have James Keane down Tuesday night, any other suggestions.

Replying To Mfs:  "Great win for mayo, first year on panel for following players who all played today - Mullen, McBrien, mcLoughlin, Moran, conroy, Walsh, O'hora, O'Donoghue and Flynn. Great to get the win with such a young panel."
Ye had to win to try and stay in Division, yer training hard in preparation for earlier championship start..
Fair play today it surely is the end now for Vaughan, Seamie, Barrett, Higgins, Boyle Barrett.. since all the young lads impressed so much in this massive game..
You need to take circumstances into play before ye start the hype machine..
Yer still not even safe..

Didn't see that coming, thought we might sneak it, but was expecting a lot more intensity from Galway. I honestly don't think either side will dwell too long on today's result. Mayo could still get relegated on 7 points if we finish level with Monaghan or Donegal, but we still have a chance if other results go our way. Galway will need to reorganize for the Dubs. Galway will definitely make the Connacht final and with players back will be a different animal for Mayo or the Rossies.

Only back training since 13th September. Don't know how hard a team could train in a month. May well be relegated next weekend but good to see new talent coming through. Harrison and McLoughin maybe back for next day.

Was Jim McGuinness' advice to keep 2m away from an opponent or did PJ and the players come up with that one themselves?

Agree, and you can add we have no consistent midfielders for years. But our backs were shocking today, we shipped 3 goals and this could easily have been 6.

Early start? We are out in the championship only 6 days after they are ffs.
We seem to be a shambles.
Kickout strategy?
Defensive shape?
General fitness?

A lot of talk about elite GAA saving the country's health & wellbeing this winter, and then you get a display like that, which might only induce illness in the Galway diehards. If that wasn't a display of pre-championship codology out of Galway today, we're obviously in some serious trouble.

Worrying too that Mayo seem to have unearthed a couple of proper forwards at last in Moran & Conroy, on today's display at least. They might be less effective, when the heat turns up of course, but on today's evidence, they looked a cut above your DOCs & COCs of this world, that Mayo have been depending on for a decade or so.

If players like Gleeson and O'Ceallaigh play games for Galway again this year I would start to seriously question this management team. There were a lot of problems today but dropping those two fixes two right off the bat. Not entirely sure what Leonard did to stay on the pitch for that long either. Not sure what we're doing in terms of S&C but it would want to start paying dividends very very soon because we were way off the pace physically as well. Management need to earn their keep now because Shane Walsh alone isn't gonna bail us out of this one

Ffs they have Roscommon we have Sligo..
They haven't won Connacht in 5 years..
Roscommon bet them and us last year..
That's a massive game for them.. you could see that were flying it and are weeks ahead.. more worried is that we were absolutely clueless on the sideline

13 of 15 players on the field not able for Mayo today. Management are to blame . 1 or 2 lads off the mark fair enough but so many lads completely at sea those in charge are responsible

If games go ahead we wont remember this in a month if team and management can regroup.

Wouldn't read anything into that game but Mayo looked fitter and hungrier. This one game doesn't dispell how abysmal Mayo were before the lockdown or how terrific Galway were. Having an extended break couldn't suddenly transform Mayo into world beaters nor turn Galway into also-rans. Expect Galway to be more like themselves against Dublin and even more so when they play Sligo.

Galway looked slow and stuck to the ground. Granted missing some very important players but more worryingly they collapsed yet again and shipped a hiding. That's to add to the collapse against Tipp a few years ago, Roscommon twice in recent years, Monaghan in the super 8's, etc. When things go against them they just seem to collapse rather then dig in.

How can we be out paced and out muscled in every position. Shape goes out the window when that happens.

I can only hope they are in heavy pre season training a head of championship and that's why they were so slow. I'm grasping at straws but how can they have regressed so much. Has to be an explanation ....I hope
