Team will be announced tonight but would expect late changes anyway. According to Kevin's interview, Duggan is definitely out of this one. O'Curraoin, D'arcy, Flynn and Cooke all injured. Sounds like Flynn and Cooke should be ok to start. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 131 - 05/07/2019 09:57:12 2205763 Link 0 |

They usually name on Friday night yeah. But there are almost always changes to that team before throw in. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 822 - 05/07/2019 10:20:25 2205777 Link 0 |
Naming teams days before throw in will be a thing of the past in the years to come. FallenStar (Galway) - Posts: 297 - 05/07/2019 10:30:36 2205784 Link 0 |
As a lot have said I would really hope that if it doesn't go our way tomorrow that we would go down with guns blazing. I think it's fairly obvious that KW is gone this year regardless and my worry is that it'll be another lost year next year for whoever comes in trying to get the lads playing a more confident expansive style, as it would take time to develop. I don't think i takes a lot to change. You are basically just tweaking a bit with the wing backs, leaving an extra player up front and then all of a sudden it looks completely different. I think they need a lot of coaching in the tackle. The intensity seems to have dropped in that regard. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1300 - 05/07/2019 11:31:11 2205827 Link 0 |
I don't think they'll need a huge amount of coaching to improve their intensity. That is the sole reason for their struggles this season in my opinion.

I was just about to say that it would be great to see the Galway players (especially the backs and midfielders) actually making hard but fair tackles as what we seem to get is players marking space not their men and when they do actually tackle they more often than not commit a foul like a push in the back (SAOC and Kerin in particular are the most culpable for doing that). I don't know what way they are being coached (if at all) but it looks awful and it is completely useless and frustrating to watch.

With the Midfield crisis so bad, what do people think of putting the two dalys there should none of the 5 pull through...have a half back line of molloy silke kelly...half forward line of brannigan walsh heaney gaillimhboy (Galway) - Posts: 283 - 05/07/2019 12:50:03 2205881 Link 0 |
Not a bad idea but I'd like to see Conroy and Daly start at midfield if flynn is injured. They are two good lads with plenty of ability and are more than capable of winning enough ball. If Conroy is fit and is going well in training then he's an obvious choice.

Yeah I don't disagree exactly, I see what you mean. The perspective I'm taking which I accept is very pessimistic is that the football is nearly coached out of the lads and they might take some time to get their confidence back and get used to getting the head up and playing ball. Hope I'm wrong because the possibilities are endless for this squad with the right strategy and approach.
