So the Finn beat Mitchels, great result

You were so right Giantlovepum - Mitchels have given up. The Fin took a notable scalp tonight according to results on down website.

Well what do you think will happen in the group of death? All four have beaten each other somewhere along the line. Will Mitchels regroup or will the Fin put the final nail in Mitchels and effectively end Mitchels season and the Fin progress to the semi finals as they did last year?

Round 1

My idea of the semi finalists are:
Mitchels, Aghaderg, Drumaness and Teconnaught (best runner up)

Mitchels to win overall.

Also it is Aghaderg's league to lose which simply will not happen and i think they will be happy with that - mind you Div 2 will be mighty tough for them especially with the absence of key players to Oz. Aghaderg have been somewhat lucky this year with little or no injuries and only the loss of one player to Oz.

I fancy Aghaderg for the double. A team that have steadily improved the last few years and their experience of getting to the final last year and losing may push them onwards!

Group winners Teconnaught Drumaness Aghaderg

best runner up any from Ardglass, Aughlisnafinn, Dromara and Mitchels

Teconnaught can beat Agahderg in the Div 3 final so don't think its in the Dergs trophy cabinet yet !!

It'll be tough for any team to win, all teams will need a bit of luck and stay injury free to win it

Finn and tecconnaught will run it close with aghaderg doing the double. Heard Mitchels have lost a lot of players from the start of the league, it's all over for them. Gona throw a few quid on aghaderg to do double. Handy money??

Oh dear oh dear - my prediction for Mitchels totally up the left. The Fin hammered Mitchels in the championship today. Where has it all gone wrong for Mitchels?

Mitchels bottom out, so much the Irish News saying that the JFC was between Ardglass and Mitchels

st pauls had a big win against Bright who have gone to the dogs this season and will fancy themselves as best runner up. The Fin really do enjoy the championship don't they, great result for them. seen tweets from the game and Mitchels had two sent off for straight reds. makes mitchels weak for killyleagh next and they will be lucky to still be in it by the time they meet Teconnaught. aghaderg look very strong and no signs of performance levels dropping. will be interesting this time next week

Great win for aghaderg after a difficult start, St. Paul's could be a surprise after a great win against drumaness

Dromara, Ardglass, Drumaness and Bright all still in with a chance of the best runner up. Group C is done and dusted. The negative points difference is giving the Fin and Mitchels no chance. Mitchels needed to have beaten Killyleagh by much more than a point yesterday and the Fin needed to have not got beaten by as much yesterday to have stood any chance of qualifying.
If Dromara beat Ardglass they should be good for the final spot - i'd have to fancy Dromara for this one by a couple of points. It will actually be one helluva game. Drumaness and the Fin might have a squeak but it is stretching the bounds of possibilities just too much. Drumaness would have to beat Bright by a cricket score. I think i remember that the Fin hammered Killyleagh last year by 29 points at this stage to claim the 4th spot so Drumaness and the Fin might just have a small small chance.
Who would have thought Aghaderg, St.Pauls, Tecconaught and Dromara? Aghaderg and Tecconaught yes but St. Pauls and Dromara no.
That is what championship is all about.

The group set up is good for that the clubs get more competitive matches when their season is over but championship should be about, you win your through and you lose your out, but at least the new format still throws up surprises

aghaderg, teconnaught, st pauls all shoe ins to win the groups

dromara are odds on to take the runners up spot. drumaness missed their chance to put st pauls away.

however unlikely it is all the teams bar killyleagh, st michaels and ballykinlar are still in with some sort of shout on the last day

'drumaness missed their chance to put st pauls away'

I'm confused. How did Drumaness miss their chance when a few consolation scores at the end took the margin of their defeat down to 9 points?

don't worry about being confused

no confusion intended

drumaness should have beat st pauls if they had aspirations to progress

EIREANNACH (Down) - Posts: 241 - 21/08/2013 12:21:11    1465012

A friend at work told me that St Pauls had a full team out for the first time this year when they played Drumaness. They had all the students back and all available minors on. Perhaps Drumaness were floored due to over confidence with them not realising that St Pauls had never fielded a full strength team all year. Going on league form it was a big surprise for St Pauls to win.
If St Pauls continue with the same team they will be hard to beat. My tip (Mitchels) has sunk without trace. The Fin defeats have scuppered any chance of them winning anything. They would need to beat Tecconaught off the field and win by an absolute mountain of points for them to progress - which is simply not going to happen.
My money is now on St Pauls (provided they do not loose any players to college / injuries and continue to field as they did last Sunday). It is not Aghadergs just yet.
