Danny McKay...bring back the horse box from Australia. I hear he is playing full forward for his club out there and is doing untold damage.

We need the Nazerene and a load of miracles - otherwise another year of nothing.

Honestly have a good feeling for the year ahead , starting of in div 3 is probably a good place for new management, firstly I would say winning that is a must and very achievable, after that would say target definitely must be to get to ulster final which again is achievable, Minors also should be in for a good year as this group of lads had good wins over Dublin and Kildare aswel as other good wins at under 16 level, So hoping for a good year for both camps

Down need a management setup who can connect in a special way with the soul of the players who are prepared to commit fully to the cause in 2019. The management need to have the players respect them fully and have the ability to make the fellas really understand, realize what it means to play for down and what is required to achieve success. They have a difficult job but i think paddy tally is the best option at present to give this a go... goodluck and i wish them all the best. Give us a team that we can proud of again.

I wouldent call it a comfortable win ,In fact the ref getting a few calls totally wrong ,2 which led directly to both Laois goals,
It is early days for Tally, and we had at least 10 first team players missing for one reason or another,
So I don't think we should be getting carried away just yet, But it does make next weeks game very important ,if we are to challenge for a top two spot

Was anyone at the game last night? Didn't sound pretty...

I know its only the first game but I can't get my head around the team that was picked - would love to know Paddy's reasoning behind it. I get planning for the future but I don't think anyone would look at that starting XV and say it represents the best the county has available.

Maybe I'm wrong - Would love to hear others thoughts.

It certainly isnt the best 15 in the county. It is however the best 15 players that are prepared to commit to the requirements of intercounty football . There is a big turnover of players in our county and only a handful of players who started the ulster final in 2017 were available to paddy tally last night. It will take time....

Thanks for the reply @downtothecore I certainly appreciate the tough job that Inter-county managers have (Down maybe so more than others). Any county would miss the depth of: Harrison, McKernan, O' Hagan, Ryan Johnston and a fully fit Mooney and O'Hare so can certainly understand resources were stretched.

However, in a county not blessed with strength in depth I do think maybe there is more flexibility needed in order to get the best players on board. Injuries are one thing as indeed are life opportunities, I'm talking about the personal fallouts that seem to have blighted this county over the past decade - the turnover as you put it.

Some lads just need that arm around them or that extra bit of leeway for one reason or another (professional/personal etc.) I think good management is knowing which lads are worth investing in and actually 'managing' them, not just on the field but off it as well. By all accounts have heard Tally is a great man manager (and seems a really genuine person more importantly) - but, have also heard stories that all is not rosy with how players were treated.
