The Dubs are so far ahead of Westmeath ( and most counties) in everything they do - S&C, skill levels (both feet and hands), opposition analysis coming into games and stats during games.

I thought the lads did well
We're capable of putting it up to most counties outside the top 6"
Simple facts. Jack Smith Jamie Gonoud James dolan Ray Connellan Kieran Martin Ronan ó toole John heslin. Luke Loughlin That in a nutshell is all the players we had of any ability ger Egan didn't even make the bench. Why because we have no ambition. Division 2 will be beyond us next season and we will go back to our level which is division 3

Ger Egan is injured for god sake if he wasn't he'd be in there !!
People could say we Only lost by 11 points But it was against a Dublin team who didn't get out of second gear without the likes of mannion , mccaffrey etc..

Is Ger Egan not injured? Yeah it wasn't an exceptional display but they worked hard. There is a huge gap in standard, Dublin never got out of 2nd gear. Id say there is prob 3/4 lads on that team completely out of their dept but everyone else is capable. Goalies kickouts were very poor in first half. Negative tactics does not help as lads seemed to be drifting back aimlessly and letting Dublins backs run and them, creating overlaps and ending up with Dublin kicking scores. Positives would be keeping the dubs to 7 points in the second half. O Toole played well, as did Heslin. O Loughlin and Connellan in spells played well.

Id agree with you there Mick. Most of those boys you mentioned are playing a long time with Westmeath and have been on the wrong end of bad beatings vs the dubs. They deserve credit for still being there but they have to have lost their enthusiam at this stage. Id say some of them are questioning there commitments tonight. Leinster is dead, very little progress will be made in any county other than dublin until its done away with.

Mick must be the only lad in the country to not know that Ger Egan was injured.

We need to see things in perspective, Westmeath v Dublin is a David v Goliath encounter. The current holders of Sam are rated as one of the greatest Gaelic football teams.

Cork showing that it can be done
Now they've a much bigger pick than Westmeath, but they've been building for 3+ years towards that performance.
Three U20 debutants down the spine of team!

Yes fair play to Cork who were massive under dogs (7/1) not unlike Westmeath but that's where the comparison ends. They are building on the back of minor and U20 All Ireland winning teams for starters.
Ger Egan and Paddy Holloway were losses but after that who was missing that is available ?
Denis Corroon or Darragh Daly might have helped at midfield.
Shane Demspey and Paul Sharry obviously not around.
You'd imagine Alex Gardiner would bring more to the table than young Kelly at this juncture but we are not at training.
In terms of preparing for playing the Dubs, it surely wasn't a simple task.
Yes they set up for damage limitation but you don't know Jack if you expected anything else in the circumstances.
Overall a very strange season for obvious reasons but mid table finish in div 2 I think is not bad going.
Jack needs to give youth a chance so hopefully we'll see a few of those who shone in the club championships.
Anyone listen to Budda's podcast with Jack ? Interesting chat I thought.
Didn't realise Jack played rugby under Joe Schmidt at Mullingar RFC.

We say about cork giving youth a chance because they have young lads. We also have young lads the likes of Tom molloy , Conor McCormack , Alex Gardner and loads more but there not given the time of day by management yet there sticking with the likes of David Lynch & callum McCormack. Tommy McDaniel has been consistently performing for castleknock In the Dublin championship scoring 3/4 points a game and he's left on the bench every year never getting a look in. Luke loughlin at the most time was the only lad inside Dublin's 45 & when Martin or heslin was put in at times Loughlin's would've been brought out so no matter who your playing your not gonna get much joy with one player up front. Cork set out to actually beat Kerry Westmeath set up To try and limit the damages Dublin were gonna do if we set out actually beat them who knows what could've Happened

So Paschal Kelleghan and Declan Gorman gone to Summerhill. Jack Cooney no doubt has replacements lined up.
