Unlucky last night lads and lassies, was listening to it on the radio in the early hours sounded like a great atmosphere in newry and a very big crowd by all accounts. Good luck in the qualifiers, they have served Tyrone well in the past and no reason down can't regroup and go again.

Embarrassing. Refs decisions at vital times went against us and the heads dropped. Still don't believe we are as bad as that result.

Dust ourselves down. Onwards to the Qualifiers. Are we in the A or B section? Almost sure we're A and will be playing 21st June.

If we had have scored more goals and points than them then we would have won I think.

Best team won. Nothing to do with ref or decisions. Didn't get the ball in enough to Laverty, who was causing damage. Also, Madine should have been played closer to goal instead of being a third midfielder. Not enough bite in Downs defence. A few players from An Riocht, Rostrevor, Clonduff wouldn't be a bad idea. So much for Newry rocking on Sat night. Right from the start the crowd was quiet. It was the quietest 18,000 I've ever heard.

Mourne Army Down have a B designation. They will play on
June 28th.

They can only play sides on the B side of the draw in the
first three rounds of the qualifiers.

If they make it that far they could play Donegal for instance
in the fourth round of the qualifiers despite Donegal having
an A designation. The Ulster runners up have an automatic B
designation.I think Leinster is similar.

The two winners from the B side of the draw will face
either the Ulster or Leinster champions in the All Ireland
quarter finals.

I disagree with some of the posts here. I think that the result had a lot to do with the referee's performance. The penalty given to Tyrone was very dubious and Down had two strong claims for penalties in the second half against J.Johnston and Laverty - That could have been a nine point swing in Down's favour! There was no punishment for some off the ball incidents - the whole thing left a very sour taste in the mouth after waiting so long for a championship match in Newry.

Peter your spot on, some of the things Tyrone were doing off the ball was disgraceful how many times were our players tripped, hit with late tackles pulled and dragged they were getting away with murder. The pen they got was a joke did anybody see the Sunday game, don't get me wrong they were the best team on the night but if the ref and linesman and especially the umpires done there job Tyrone would have picked up bookings which in turn would have stopped there consent fouling.

Reassuring to see Down supporters reverting to type and blaming everyone except the inadequacies of their own team for their defeat, 20 years on and some things just never change.

Crazy stuff on here. So we haven't won Ulster since 1994 because of referees? Best team won. Get over it and get out and support the team in the qualifiers.

I thought the ref let things go on both sides.
Both sides were engaged in a fair bit of off the ball stuff (typical championship football stuff really) which seemed to be ignored. Tyrone's penalty appeared to have been wrongly given but I don't think that affected the outcome really.
Realisticaly on the balance of the game Tyrone were 3 or 4 points better on the night and lads thinking otherwise are fooling themselves

downredhand I agree that Tyrone were the better side on the day. By your own admission though, the referee got a crucial penalty call wrong in favour of Tyrone. I contend that he got two more penalty calls wrong - a possible 9 point swing. I have every right to feel frustrated by that.

I think the fact that the referees' meeting was brought forward by two weeks speaks for itself.

Ah now Peter sure every game is full of ifs. I thought Tyrone were fairly much in control when they got the pen but once you start looking at ifs you can talk yourself into any sort of possible result from a game.

Tyrone were the better team and fully deserved the victory and to make rumblings about the ref is just hiding the reality. We missed it in Omagh, they learnt more from the first match than we did.

One major difference I noted was the kick outs. The tyrone custodian kicked directly to a tyrone player at chest height for virtually every ball but we launched into the air where it was hanging and for many we didnt win any dirty ball. saying that we have some superb passages of play but unfortunately just not enough of them. Id also bring more younger lads like johnston on, he played really well and has some pace which would trouble that tyrone defence
