Graham Clarke

(Oldest Posts First)

Congratulations to Ballygalet's Graham Clarke on finishing second in this years Poc Fada. He only finished a couple of stokes behind Brendan Cummins. That's two All Ireland medals for the Ballygalget shot stopper this year. I can remember, but did Clarke win the Poc Fada a few years back?

Get job. I think he won it a couple of years ago. Great lad and happy he was part of your Christy Ring winning panel this year.

A fine keeper and I would agree he, like Paul Braniff, deserve their Christy Ring medals - as for the best ever I still think Noel Keith has to be Downs number 1 - legend

Must agree well deserved medal for Graham...and Paul Braniff...Like Tim I think Noel Keith was an outstanding goalkeeper too. On a given day both were as good as each other. Both gentlemen too. great ambassadors for Down and for hurling.

CoDown1 I didnt mean to give the impression that Graham isnt a fantastic keeper - he is, comparing the two is like comparing a Ferrari Enzo to a Bugatti Veyron, both superb but its a personal choice. What I do think is that I, and many others, have been very privilged to see both of them in action - class acts both.

Graham also played Div 1 for many years until the league was restructured. He also played all ireland championship against the likes of tipp and galway. Both are/were exceptional keepers and deserve their places as on of the greats.

Young Stephen Keith is bad either. Made that great save in the Ring final at the death to deny the Kingdom the win.

Portavogie lad..you are soo right. Stephen keith saved the day at the Christy Ring final. That last free from Kerry was the most dangerous ball of the match. They went for goal and if Keith had missed then Kerry would have won by a point! The papers all concentrated on magic's goal. it was vital too....but without keith's save it would have been meaningless.

Two fantastic keepers who would have been All-Stars if they'd been playing in one of the top rated hurling counties. Couldn't split them and this is a neutral point of view with no Cran/Galget bias whatsoever.
