Joseph's/Milltownpass in D2 how many different Clubs have Milltownpass being amalgamated with this year up to U19 ?? Westmeathgeal (Westmeath) - Posts: 45 - 01/10/2020 21:02:35 2295150 Link 0 |
The Downs have tough opening game vs Caulry. Kinnegad will probably walk through their group although tubberclair could give them a game off it , killucan will probably top their group and group 4 of Lomans ,milmore and shamrocks is the most competitive groups as any team could get through it , Lomans are set to be without Fionn o hara due to injury. I think if Downs and kinnegad top their respective groups they play eachother in a semi final as only one goes through each group.

Killucan, TheDowns and Kinnegad will be the strongest three in this age bracket. Lomans as you said will be without young O Hara and will rely somewhat on minor lads, so that group will be very competitive. Its hard not to see the other three making three of the four semi-finalists.

Reply to Westmeath Gea - l Milltownpass have been with the Bridge at U15 level and I think i saw Kilbeggan with them at 17s? Could be wrong. Smaller clubs just dont have the numbers as bigger villages...No houses in Milltownpass - No Population. Althought Kilbeggan not small they struggle also at underage. gti (Westmeath) - Posts: 199 - 02/10/2020 09:53:13 2295206 Link 0 |
Could depend on how much teams have been training for it I know of a few teams who haven't started back yet.Caulry ran the downs close last year in the minor semi and only lost out by 3 points I think. So that would be a close contest. I think the downs quality will pull them through it Shamrocks are out first against milmore and that could go either way, likewise with shandonagh and Maryland/tang game. Not sure who is out first in kinnegad group but you'd imagine kinnegad will get by both tubberclair or moate, Will be interesting to see whether the likes of David hickey will be allowed play for killucan If Shane o Brien has plans for him with the senior hurlers. Likewise with the young lads in with the county footballers. Westmeath213 (Westmeath) - Posts: 186 - 02/10/2020 12:09:23 2295245 Link 0 |
Surprised to see Athlone in Division 2. They should have a fair few of their senior squad and I think they would be well able to compete with most of the Division 1 teams.

Shane Reid was there only player to play for the senior team this year. And they only had 2 I think on their junior team I believe they've gone off last years minor championship in terms of what divisions teams are in . Westmeath213 (Westmeath) - Posts: 186 - 02/10/2020 14:36:21 2295293 Link 0 |
Athlone are decent even if there best player is from Tubberclair they have 3 or so on there senior team. Kinnegad, the downs and killucan, caulry after that. It should be an u20 competition what genius decided to change I will never know. PowellJohn (Westmeath) - Posts: 32 - 02/10/2020 14:47:31 2295298 Link 0 |
The so called genius who changed it was aware that the age groups had changed at underage level from minor to 17 and sensibly thought that under 20 would mean a big gap from underage. It also caters for lads who played minor last year but who might not make club adult teams this year!! Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 188 - 02/10/2020 15:32:08 2295316 Link 0 |
Personally don't think they ever should of changed it from u21 a few years ago . And should've been kept at under 18 rather than going in odd numbers.

Does anyone have the full first round of fixtures for these games? Lost_Cause (Westmeath) - Posts: 2 - 02/10/2020 16:12:22 2295324 Link 0 |

100% some young lads don't fill out or mature enough to play senior at 20 so 20/21s is a better fit and covers more ages for weaker teams to field.

Just a question is there an u20 management for wh yet and if so who is involved. Will be very hard to pick a panel considering this competition did not run last year. Hopefully all Ireland in u20 football is not going to be early this year. Think we should have an u20 in wh early as possible so that management can at least get to watch players with clubs madbull (Westmeath) - Posts: 194 - 14/01/2021 17:17:02 2327434 Link 0 |
The usual management I'm presuming, Gavin as manager I think isn't it ? The management will have a fair idea who should be in there. Last years older players obviously are out of age but then they'll have younger lads joining in , they would know who they want considering there isn't that much of a pick of players who many would consider "quality" players Westmeath213 (Westmeath) - Posts: 186 - 14/01/2021 22:16:03 2327486 Link 0 |
Do you know if these players development has been tracked the past few years? I'd imagine if we meant business they would be on programmes since u17. As you said they will more or less know who they want to call in. Gavin's 3rd year I think so he would want to have this in place
