Cork. I have had a thing about wanting to meet Cork in the Championship for a while now. We have unfinished business since... erm...1988. Newbridge as a neutral venue anyone ? Hon. Knoxboya (Monaghan) - Posts: 291 - 01/07/2018 13:20:25 2117175 Link 0 |
If we draw Laois then we avoid Dublin. So its Laois who i would like to see us up against Farney (Monaghan) - Posts: 739 - 01/07/2018 13:59:14 2117184 Link 0 |
The worst draw in my opinion is to draw Cork, if you are lucky to beat them you will play Dublin in Clones and Donegal in Ballybofey, if it's Roscommon you play Donegal in Clones and Dublin in Croke Park, if it's Laois it's Kerry in Clones and Galway in Salthill. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1853 - 01/07/2018 14:46:40 2117198 Link 0 |
Wow, I didn't realize even the venues were already decided. I suppose who we prefer to draw depends on our ambition...go into Dublin's group, and at least if you get out of the group you would avoid them in a semi. Go into Kerry's group, and have to try to win it, to try avoiding the dubs in a semi. Group of death of Dublin, donegal, us and Tyrone anyone...!? moodoo (Monaghan) - Posts: 394 - 01/07/2018 18:31:08 2117317 Link 0 |
I was looking at R4 in isolation. Given what has now been explained here, I am firmly in the "we want Laois" camp. Thanks for clarifying. Justice v Cork on hold for now. Knoxboya (Monaghan) - Posts: 291 - 01/07/2018 20:03:48 2117360 Link 0 |
Been v lucky with the draws in the qualifiers not only this year but last as well which means we will more than likely get cork. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1503 - 01/07/2018 20:17:46 2117367 Link 0 |
We've definitely been lucky with the qualifier draw the last couple of years, but to be fair we've had awful luck when it comes to quarter final draws in the last few years so it kinda evens out - twice met Tyrone as Ulster champs and twice met Dublin coming through the back door. Literally the worst possible draw each time. patk (Monaghan) - Posts: 874 - 01/07/2018 20:44:49 2117387 Link 0 |
Absolute sense there !

Good to get the win on Saturday. It was a great occasion and an enjoyable trip to Carrick -on-Shannon. OrielPower (Monaghan) - Posts: 106 - 02/07/2018 08:48:17 2117494 Link 0 |

I'm unaware of the identity of the patron Saint of favourable draws, but a few Hail Marys and "nine Fridays"are heading their way now. Knoxboya (Monaghan) - Posts: 291 - 02/07/2018 08:52:06 2117501 Link 2 |

Massive opportunity for this generation of players to make their mark now given way draw has worked out. Focus has to be on beating laois forget super 8s until and if we win. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1503 - 02/07/2018 09:01:13 2117506 Link 0 |
oh boy. There is a huge chance here for us now (although Laois will say the same of course). IF we can beat Laois...we have a chance, a real chance. For the sake of the players, for the effort they have put in over the years, I hope they can lift themselves enough to make it to the groups. After that...who knows... moodoo (Monaghan) - Posts: 394 - 02/07/2018 09:02:23 2117507 Link 1 |
Is Croke Park available next weekend? Monaghan vs Laois followed by Armagh vs Roscommon would be my guess on Saturday Lightroom (Monaghan) - Posts: 17 - 02/07/2018 09:36:58 2117530 Link 0 |
Look its a second chance for these players v similar to fermanagh match as in we are expected to win with an ulster final the prize. Now its a place in super 8s. Surely there can be no complaceny this time round. Full focus on this game super 8s will look after themselves if we get there. There is also the reminder of 2012 and Laois easily beating us in the championship so they certainly won't fear us. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1503 - 02/07/2018 09:43:48 2117533 Link 0 |
