Brilliant Katser,
I loved your thing about Forlough. Does that mean Torlough are now getting paid to sit at home?
Being an ancient Bullaun man I loved your prognostications about today's result. Can you give me your next forecast for Sarsfields? I need to make a bet.
I hear Joe was wronged - from a Dublin friend who keeps me updated on things in Ireland. I find it sad how one of my heroes of Galway hurling - Joe Canning - is constantly stopped by foul means home and away.
I say that as a genuine fan of sport and not a Portumna supporter.

Alot of upsets in the 1st Round this weekend, including Clarinbridge, Loughrea and Ardrahan all losing, but most of all Portumna getting hammered by a mideocr Sarsfields team! There are nobody on the Sarsfields team in the same class as Joe Canning and he is capable of beating them on his own!!! The sending offs for Portumna definitely cost them this match.

Joe was definitely very unlucky today. The red was for pulling the helmet off, but it didn't look deliberate at all. The yellow he got earlier in the game was also a bit of joke. He was pulled to the ground off the ball and got booked for his troubles.
I'm assuming the red will be overturned, so he can play in the remaining games.

Linesman said JC pulled the helmet off Kevin Hynes. Don't see how that has much to do with Sarsfields. First yellow was soft but not even JC didn't complained that it wasn't a foul. Was a bit bemused with the yellow tbf. Tight game up until the sending offs. Watching Castlegar vs. Thomas's I think both Portuma and Sarsfields might find it hard to progress. Thought Jack Canning had some decent moments in an unfamiliar centre back spot.

I am relying on my Dublin source to tell me it was unjust, and if so, hopefully it will overturned on appeal to allow him to demonstrate his genius soon.
Fifty to sixty years ago when I played at a very low level in Galway, some of the punishment meeted out to us gossons would nowadays get a custodial sentence, and most refs told you 'to get on with it'
Now we will obviously beg to differ on the merits of this present Sarsfields team from the smallest catchment area in the county.
Whilst the fantastic first back to back All Ireland Club Champions will forever be the bench mark in the parish, write off this present outfit at your peril.
Credit where it is due, any team which beats Portumna by such a big margin are no mediocraties - despite the uneven numbers.

Good luck and keep it civil !

after re-watching the farcical sending off, Joe merely pushed hynes in the neck when both ended up on the ground and hynes slightly protested that to the ref. (in fairness it looked like joe was pressuring his fist into his neck) unfair to say Sars looked to get canning sent off. in no way they did. the red will be overturned, even stevie wonder would tell you that.

In Joe's defence it was never a sending off , it appears the ref was mislead by his linesman .

Should be overturned with the minimum of fuss - move on !

Nothing surprising about Portumna losing matches in Senior A. That's what they've been doing for a good few seasons now. Their current team bears little resemblance to their all conquering sides of a decade ago, so there's no reason at all why they'd still be winning. Sarsfields have been a good bit short of top4 standard in the last few years too, since their rather surprising title win of 2015.

Either way the red card will be rightly rescinded. Portunma were probably a little lucky to stay in senior A last year, won't be so lucky this year. Sarsfields Cashel should be a good game. Very even all round.

]Portumna beat Gort last year to relegate them to Senior B!! That's what saved their bacon lol!

Wouldn't agree that Sarsfields are mediocre, with Joseph Cooney back, John Cooney and Connaire also looking good, I think they're an improving team.
