Galway minor hurlers

Replying To galway19:  "Watched the Div 1 Celtic Challenge final on Saturday and we must be absolute shoe ins for the Minor All Ireland this year, some unreal talent coming through. Galway maroon team (probably not even a quarter of the minor panel this year) were four points down to North Cork at half time and won the second half by 22 points, playing some lovely hurling. Colum Molloy from Kilnadeema Leitrim a livewire at corner forward and Killeen from Loughrea at centre back were exceptional but David Slattery from Larkins was different class to everyone on the field at wing forward. Not the biggest but caught puckouts clean in the air and was so fast running with the ball. Got 2-6 from play I think. Our minor championship team will be made up of the best of these lads, also the McDonagh U17 team (who only lost by a couple of points to the maroon team in semi final) and anyone underage from last year's team, Sean McDonagh being the obvious one."
Now in fairness as regards the Celtic Challenge none of the other counties played lads that are on their county minor panels as their provincial campaigns overlapped with it whereas the Galway minors get going a lot later so would have had their best talent available for Celtic Challenge.
Still don't see any team that will even run the minors close though they will win it easily.

A Canning like performance from Sean McDonagh yesterday. Unbelievable how he is carrying the team even withstanding the amount of talent around him on this squad, he is still miles ahead of everyone else.

KK lost by a goal to us the last day, they would be happy with another day out in final, total crap system. Hope to have young Morgan back fit. Anybody see the red card incident on McGlynn besides linesman?

He's in ok.
Good luck on Sunday to all.
Still feel it is a major mistake to have changed from U-18 to U-17 for Minor.
Lads are not mature enough at all. seriously needs to be revisited.

Couldn't agree more with that, serious error and compounded by moving u21 to u20, need to keep lads involved with the County as long as possible.

Best of luck to them.

totally agree the u18 and u21 was good.....go back to it and put our minor hurlers into Leinster....KK must have cherry picked the current arrangement where they can lose and learn and we have no safety.

Good lord what a display! Tremendous composure from those young lads.

Hard luck to KK; hammerings are tough to take, but no one could have lived with that Galway team and the mood they were in today.

Gaillimh go deo!

What a team! A fantastic display and the 3 in a row delivered. Fair play to all involved. Gaillimh Abu!
It'd be mighty if the footballers can pull off the minor double.

Galway played like veterans out there today. Superb display. Congrats on the 3 in a row.

Congrats to the Galway minor 3 in a row team. Like the senior game, we really streaked away in the second half and should have won by at least 17 or 18 points but the 16 wides didn't help in that regard. Some excellent hurlers who will hopefully make successful seniors in the coming years. I was also impressed with the management team who seemed to work very well together and were confident in the players that they picked to get the job done. Not many thought the football heartlands of Mountbellew-Moylough, Moycullen, Annaghdown and Ballygar would provide key players to this team but the Galway selectors thought otherwise and were proven to be correct - well done to all concerned.

Really liked Brian Hanley's interview afterwards when he said there was never any pressure put on these lads from within the camp and that they just go out and hurl. Love that attitude. Also said that they only hurled at 70% which is a scary thought. Sean McDonagh is as good as we have had at this grade in a long time.

Am i right in thinking Greg Thomas is underage again next year? Pretty sure he is only 16.

Certainly sad to think of all the 'seanmcdonaghleveltalents' that were left on the scrap heap wandering the streets of Ballygar & Mountbellew by successive underage regimes in Galway hurling. I wonder how they spotted Sean!!
