Yes top of division 2 goes to division 1 for the following year. The cream will always rise to the top we 45. There probably was way too many games with the current system. Should be more of a bite now to early round games. overdabar (Westmeath) - Posts: 212 - 24/11/2016 12:18:08 1936410 Link 0 |
Div 2 will have a good bit of bite to it from the start alright but div 1 wont. 5 teams in it and 4 qualify. No bite in that. Should have been Chtristy ring format. Would have been perfect with 8 teams. County board didn't go for it because it would mean less games. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 209 - 24/11/2016 13:26:20 1936433 Link 0 |
There's no foregone conclusions who'll finish last in div 1 so teams will have to go flat out to make sure there not last. overdabar (Westmeath) - Posts: 212 - 24/11/2016 15:05:29 1936461 Link 0 |
Well if you win your first game your almost guaranteed a 1/4 final spot. Adding 2 teams that are not fit for senior will not improve the championship and it leaves the intermediate a weaker championship as well. There will be 2 or 3 teams that will be stuck in div 2 going nowhere. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 209 - 24/11/2016 15:56:47 1936481 Link 0 |
Someone enlighten me what Crookedwood won this year to give them promotion? valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1791 - 24/11/2016 18:17:50 1936523 Link 0 |
Snr football chship is similar. One win and a draw could qualify for quarter final in group A. smithers123 (Westmeath) - Posts: 19 - 24/11/2016 20:31:08 1936553 Link 0 |
Re-structuring the championship wasn't what was really needed, its the structuring of the fixtures that needs to be worked on. theres probably more finals played in November than August and September combined. Now that's the main problem. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 209 - 25/11/2016 09:24:55 1936613 Link 0 |
It was needed wd45. There was 56 hurling championship games before semi final stage. 8 teams X 7 games. There will be 40 now. 5 teams X 4 games in 2 groups. Throw in 2 quarter finals is 42 games. The hurling final should be played in September. Saw a couple of finals recently played in very poor weather at the end of Oct which destroyes the game. overdabar (Westmeath) - Posts: 212 - 25/11/2016 12:14:49 1936659 Link 0 |
Well if this means that the championship gets finished in September well then I am all for it. A championship of that size should start in june and finish in September easy. I do agree that there was way to many games in the old structure. I hope they county board don't fix the first round for April and then a break of 3 months to the next game. They like to do that. Is there anything happening to the league. Its a joke. Last years league wasn't finished and either will this years by the looks of it. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 209 - 25/11/2016 12:29:53 1936664 Link 0 |
Yeah the leagues are a bit of a joke. Generally when your club team are knocked out of championship all interest is lost. Especially for clubs with small Panals. Sunday morning games at 11.30 in November and December doesn't sound too appealing to lads! overdabar (Westmeath) - Posts: 212 - 25/11/2016 12:52:25 1936666 Link 0 |
Don't fully agree with it from the point of view that 4 teams will only get 4 games which knowing the way fixtures are could be spread over 5 months. It won't improve the weaker teams and I feel it's just the 2 intermediate teams using their influence at county board level to get back up Senior. puglerdaly (Westmeath) - Posts: 74 - 26/11/2016 08:41:49 1936791 Link 0 |
Effectively the senior B now becomes the intermediate and the intermediate is the junior championship

No it isn't it's two groups in Senior. The second group is hardly intermediate if they make a senior quarter final ?

Nobody has explained why the Wood have been promoted. Not why Brownstown survived relegation valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1791 - 28/11/2016 08:03:37 1937025 Link 0 |
Is this not just random speculation on the proposed format or is this actually going ahead? gedupoutofit (Westmeath) - Posts: 86 - 28/11/2016 11:13:35 1937061 Link 0 |
Are the county team back training? If so does anyone Know is there any new lads on the panel or has any lads retired. Will Murtagh and Mcnicholas give it another shot?. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 209 - 28/11/2016 15:01:08 1937091 Link 0 |
It was voted for at a meeting of the hurling clubs (two clubs were absent though) and the majority want it, Crookedwood didn't vote for it while Brownstown did, so to me it looks like the Wood dont want it and are being forced to play senior,is that within the rules or can the Wood object? The planning committee will have the final say as to whether the changes come into effect. What good is it for a division 2 team getting hammered in a qtr final (Delvin mite do ok ) and the division 1 team will have bad prep for a semi-final. believe the senior will eventually be pared down to 6 teams in 1 division, the intermediate the same and then a junior A, B and maybe C.

Crookedwood are the biggest beneficiaries of the changes, I'd be amazed if they weren't supportive of it. Especially as they have plenty of pull in there valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1791 - 03/12/2016 08:58:06 1938125 Link 0 |
16 of last years panel have not made themselves available for one reason or another , not surprising really as management carried a huge panel last year right through but there is new players in such as sean lancaster, shane clavin, alan cox but most of the u-21s from last year have made themselves available for that grade only and not rejoined senior set up , both panels are back training separately
