The league are a Fantastic advert for London hurling, fair play to all involved. Looks like it'll all come down to score difference! Cockneyreject (UK) - Posts: 28 - 28/09/2014 19:36:57 1657781 Link 0 |

Its shambolic, you could excuse (to some degree) the B teams for giving walkovers in intermediate but for only one game to be played in the senior league is embarrassing. It's not entirely the clubs fault though, these games should of being played during the summer while teams are still involved in championship. adama (UK) - Posts: 37 - 29/09/2014 09:20:02 1657909 Link 0 |
All teams are still playing all britain so they should still be fielding for the league. Only two teams left in the intermediate. Fulham and Cú Chulainns. Most sensible thing to do is just play a final. Cockneyreject (UK) - Posts: 28 - 29/09/2014 10:15:21 1657937 Link 0 |
I don't think there is any promotion/relegation in hurling league. Think if you are senior champ you are division 1 league automatically and same for intermediate and division 2. All adding to the pointlessness of the competitions as a whole. custopper (Cork) - Posts: 26 - 29/09/2014 10:50:12 1657960 Link 0 |
You need serious commitment and/or patience to play GAA (especially hurling) in london, no wonder alot of lads go off and play other sports or don't bother at all. adama (UK) - Posts: 37 - 29/09/2014 12:04:28 1658003 Link 0 |
Agreed adama. There's still an intermediate cup competition which has yet to be started! Hurling in the snow could be fun! (Teams involved will disagree I imagine) Cockneyreject (UK) - Posts: 28 - 29/09/2014 13:02:28 1658050 Link 0 |
Do the London county board just push all organisation for hurling to one side? Clarebearstare (Clare) - Posts: 192 - 30/09/2014 10:48:34 1658441 Link 0 |
I was out at the senior semi-final yesterday between Murphy's and Gabriel's in Ruislip. A very intriguing game played in beautiful weather for this time of year. Both teams struggled for numbers, I believe both barely had 15. Gabriel's had their big guns out in Rodgers, Cooney, Finn, Hands, Foy. Murphy's seemed to be missing Lynch, Power and Mythen. 4 points the difference in the end. 2-15 to 3-8. Murphy's gave a good account of themselves and took some fine scores. Could have been closer but for a poor mistake from Murphy's keeper near the end to gift Gabriel's a goal. Three well taken goals from their full forward and some nice long range points from their midfield/half forward line. Gabriel's drove a lot of bad wides early in the second half under dogged pressure from the Murphy's. In the end it was the class of Foy, Hands and Finn with vital scores that proved the difference. Finn had a poor day on the frees. Murphy's free taking wasn't much better. Deadwood (Limerick) - Posts: 55 - 06/10/2014 14:52:59 1660727 Link 0 |
Fair play deadwood for providing a report, good to see both teams making the effort. Hopefully Gabriel's give Kilburn a good game in the final. adama (UK) - Posts: 37 - 06/10/2014 15:48:49 1660754 Link 0 |
If Thomas McCurtains are playing the 2013 intermediate league final this weekend, why have they been playing the intermediate league 2014? Surely if they won they'd have been senior this year? Did the Murphy's play senior league as no final had been played? Cockneyreject (UK) - Posts: 28 - 06/10/2014 18:25:59 1660810 Link 0 |
It's nonesense but in hurling your championship grade determines your league grade. As Murphy's won promotion to senior last year they are automatically promoted to senior league. Fulham Irish were relegated so they were relegated into intermediate league. It's been like that for as long as I've been in this town! London need a new format in both league and championship in hurling. Deadwood (Limerick) - Posts: 55 - 06/10/2014 20:05:07 1660855 Link 0 |
Just checked the website and noticed all the league finals are on this weekend. Kilburn Gaels vs St.Gabriel's on Saturday. I fully expect Kilburn to romp home in this one, Gabriel's are a pale shadow of their former county winning selves. If Kilburn have all their big guns fit and firing then they will destroy the Gabriel's backs. Only hope for Gabriel's will be the likes of Finn and Hands getting early goals. Kilburn to win by 14. 2013 league final - Fr. Murphy's vs Thomas McCurtain's. McCurtain's threw away the intermediate championship final over two games, very hard for a club to recover from that disappointment in the same year. You feel a lot of lads will have lost interest for this year at least. If Murphy's get a full team out I would expect them to edge it after facing stiffer competition, and holding their own for the large part, at senior this year. Murphy's by 7. Predictions?
