New Manager

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is really interesting. O'Neill has experience with teams at the highest level, something Jason Ryan didn't. Between him and Glenn I'd go for O'Neill based on the fact he's been involved with an All Ireland winning team. Looking forward to next season now. Hopefully we'll hit the ground running and get out of division 3 straight away.

Absolutely smashing news. Had favoured Evans on the basis that common consensus seemed to be O'Neill wouldn't be a runner. To get someone with such brilliant experience right from the top tier is a brilliant coup. In fairness to the county board they've copped a lot of criticism there's not too many who could quibble with this appointment or their waiting until the championship finished before being in a position to make it. Going to be a tough road the next couple of years but at least now these young players will be in no doubts what level they need to get to.

Thankfully it's not Evans Doublehop, that's all I'd say! This is a really interesting appointment, and it looks like he will be bringing a few lads in with him. It's the type of forward thinking manager kildare needs now. It's almost poetic that he was on the opposing touch line to see Kildares worst humiliation of all time only a few weeks ago.

Good news. He needs a few seasons to put his stamp on things and bring through the minor players from the last few years.

Yes thankfully it's not Evans, excellent appointment, he'll bring them on at least I would say.

Best of luck to Cian O'Neill. Great to have a Kildare man in charge, no doubting his credentials. Will be interesting to see who the back room team will be.

A really good appointment. A class coach who has operated at the highest level. Optimism at least has returned :)

A word of caution.First this manager needs to be given time.At l;east 3 years. He isnt a miracle worker and will only improve our standing and performances with a structured and balanced approach . I am sure this will happen. No room for sentiment. The door needs to be shown to at least 30% of the current squad.A few under 21's and ex minors are needed.

Murphy,Brian Flannagan and Pairic Brennan named as mgt team. Not surprised with Bryan Murphy but never would have guessed any of the other two. I know Flanno did a bit of work from the stand with JR even during McGeeneys tenure.Interesting to see what Pairic will add. Full Kildare line up and plenty of inter county experience. Best of luck to them.

Best of luck to them.A revival of sorts is whats needed to get the kids at 7 8 9 and that interested. I coach at that level and they only have role models from Dublin and outside. Hurling the same. Onwards and upwards!!!!

Given his work with minors/u21s the last few years I think everyone would be happy Murphy's involved.

Brennan & Flanagan are very interesting. In some ways, the exact opposite of each other in terms of their Kildare playing careers.
Flanagan probably achieved more than his talent would have suggested through sheer drive while I always felt Padaig could have done more,
he was so, so talented. (no disrespect meant to either of them)

Really looking firward to see where next year goes.

The thing with Brennan was that he was never really given a chance. I could never fathom how Graven started ahead of him throughout 98'. If he did play he was put in the corner and he was more of a half forward than a corner forward. If 3 former stalwarts are willing to give their time then great, the county is lucky to have them. Brian Murphy is in there to help the young lads through I'd say.

Brennan had a great year in 2000. He was unmarkable in the replay against Offaly and both days against the Dubs.
