Goal scoring

(Oldest Posts First)

I hope somewhere Jim Gavin/ Jason Sherlock has found the time to address the issue of our poor rate of goal scoring.
No other team has created as many yet missed as many goal scoring opportunities as this Dublin team.
It was our failure to convert chances that cost is so heavily against Donegal in 2014. If 1 of 2 or 3 goal chances had been taken I doubt if Donegal could have rallied. We spurned several opportunities against Kerry back in August , chances that they would have taken. Sin sceal eile.
We have reverted to taking shots when the simple lay off would lead to a goal.
We could be a lot more clinical and we'll need to be next Saturday.
Brian Fenton is an excellent player and gets into great goal scoring situations - would love to see him bury one of those goal chances this Saturday.

Clarke is a good goalie he would need to hit it sweet to get past him, mabey punching a point or rounding goalie is an option.

Dont know about Paddy Power hill but i'll give you 80/1 on that.(Flynn has to be the last man to pass and touch the ball before Bernard).

I'd be more worried if we weren't creating the chances. If Berno gets a 1 v 1 he will score. He's second to none when he get's inside. We need dry conditions on Sat.

I'd agree with that. For Fenton's big chance, he did everything right - kept it low and hard and forced the save and Clarke spread himself very well to make the block. The loop over the keeper wasn't on either as a Mayo back had sprinted back to cover the line.

There were a couple of other occasions though that a simple layoff would have presented a great goal chance. These are the things you'd be hoping Jayo and Jim etc. would be looking at improving upon.
