Christy Ring 2013

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Very best wishes to the Down hurlers for tomorrow. Hopefully they can get the win they deserve. Hoping there will be a good crowd of supporters to cheer them on and ensure that red and black is the predominant colour in Croke at 4p.m. The management have done a superb job this year and the fruits of all the hard work in the past few seasons is now paying off. Well done to Gerard Monan and the rest of his team. Good luck to the whole squad and a safe journey to all who are travelling.

I think its only a matter of time before a larger number of non-ards hurlers are making a higher % of the starting 15. Look at the underage structure in Carryduff & Bredagh - its superb and great to see!

Sorry Sliothar I got a bit excited and couldn't control the index finger.

Well I hope Down have a successful day tomorrow. By all accounts there should be a large support travelling and of course the weather will be perfect for hurling. Down have been getting stronger with every game played in the Christy Ring and they should not have anything to fear.

I wish the two Portaferry lads all the best in their games for their respective counties, even if one county is adopted. Would history be made if they both win?

Again I wish all associated with the team the best of luck and it will be a great privilege for the players to represent their county playing in Croke Park. Good luck!

@ Frank - there's only 3 non Ards lads on the starting 15. Finty, Hughes & Sheehan.

Finals are for winning!! Never mind the honour of playing in Croke Park and concentrate on winning the game. Show Kerry no respect - they've no respect for us.

Respect every team before and after the game but when the balls thrown in the time for respect is gone.

Best of luck to the lads tomorrow. Would be a fantastic achievement to win the Christy Ring and there would be no better man than Paul Braniff to lift the cup.

What about Kevin McGarry?

Great to see the non-Ards teams getting stronger. Just a clarification Swan Song - there are 5 Portaferry lads playing in Croke tmrw - 1 for Warwickshire and 4 for Down. No better man to lift the Christy Ring Cup than Down's very own Christy Ring, Portaferry man Paul 'Dule' Branniff - up Down!

@ Frank Mitchell
Kevin McGarry is a member of Portaferry. Last time I checked, Portaferry was within the Ards! He may not hail originally from the Ards, but he plays for and is a valid and respected player and member of an Ards club.

Good luck to all tomorow. Hope to seee Dule lift the Christy Ring!!

Best of luck to the lads tomorrow. Would be fantastic to see Paul Braniff lift the Christy Ring Cup - A great captain and great ambassador for Down GAA. Kerry will be tough, but we have the beating of them.

Well said Seannie Og & Portinexile. Braniff is a legend and finals are for winning. Confident that we can win, but no doubt it will be very tough. We have a great blend of youth and experience.

An Dun abu

All the best to the team and management tomorrow. Dule to rule and get the silverware his efforts over many years deserve. Great article about him in the paper today. Frank forget the Ards/nonards stuff. Its a Down team. An Dún abú!

Heigh-Ho, Heigh Ho
It's off to Croke we go
We'll play all day
And get our pay
When Paul lifts Christy high!
Heigh-Ho Heigh-Ho
It's off to Croke we go!

Maybe if things are getting tough tomorrow for the lads they'll need a chorous of Star of the County Down or The Mountains of Mourne.

Let's make sure we lift the roof when they come onto the pitch!

Good Luck lads.... you can do it.

Fair play lads. Won the final at the third time of asking, in very dramatic circumstances to. Sounded like a great final, as did the Rackard final. Two high scoring games. Will we be seeing ye in Leinster next year maybe?!!

What a game and what a result. Heart in mouth stuff at the end, and even more dramatic on the radio. Great Mourne spirit shown.
