Best Carlow team of last 10 years

(Oldest Posts First)

Long time reader, first time poster.
I thought with Championship fever around the corner it be fun to pick our best 15 footballers who played for the county of the last 10 years. Would be interesting to see if many of them are on the current Carlow panel. My team would be:

1. John Brennan - O' Hanrahans
2. Barry English - O' Hanrahans
3. Brian Farrell- Palatine
4. Johnny Kavanagh - Leighlinbridge
5. Paul Cashin - Eire Og
6. John Hayden - Old Leighlin
7. Sean O'Brien - Fenagh
8. Thomas Walsh- Fenagh
9. Brendan Murphy - Rathvilly
10. Brian Carbury - Eire Og
11. Mark Carpenter - O'Hanrahans
12. Johny Nevin - Old Leighlin
13. Brian Kelly - Palatine
14. Sean Kavanagh- Rathvilly
15. Simon Rea.

From the 15 i have picked worryingly only one is currently on the present panel. You would expect if picking a team from the last ten years that at least 3 or 4 names from the current panel would be mentioned. Then again thats only my team and i would be interested to see the views of other people.

Mabey Joe Byrne for Paul Cashin, JJ Smyth for Carberry and Conor Lawler for Johnny Kavanagh. Possibly Benny Kavanagh for Barry English.

I'd have Brian Farrell within my selection but poor old Andrew Corden RIP was the most solid FB I probably saw for us. If he's gone more than 10 years its sad to believe.

Andrew died in 2002, in the middle of way. The championship must have started earlier then because he had played for carlow against Westmeath a week earlier.
Andrew's death was a terrible loss to Carlow football, O'Hanrahan's and, more importantly, his family and friends.
