Think they played Kerry, Meath and Waterford before Xmas. Waterford game was a draw & won the other 2 well.

I love this time of year to be honest. It's the time to be hopeful and optimistic. Anyone I've spoken to from within the panel has told me how organised and professional the setup is. That coupled with staying relatively injury free will go a long way. Get the mix right in the league and go hell for leather in may then. Last year showed us how good we can be against Galway in the first half, same for Antrim and Westmeath then obviously Kilkenny. We also so how poor we can be against Galway second half, Westmeath and Dublin. Landing somewhere in the middle will get us third at least. The target has to be a Leinster final, then who knows what can happen. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4663 - 03/01/2024 14:25:43 2518204 Link 0 |

I agree 100%. I've been told the same. I really think we weren't fit enough last year. As in proper match fit. Too many lads missed too much time injured, and pre season was quote unquote "alot easier". And when you are a little tired the mental side of things, decision making and shooting, suffers also. Plus you are more liable to pick up more injuries or have them recurring on you.

If we can get to a Leinster final I think we have every chance of winning it. Then who knows what might happen after that.

From what I hear the set up us professional and lads are impressed with David Franks' quality of training. Any news on what the panel may look like. Heard there is around 40 lads training at the moment. Are the likes of Matt O Hanlon, Conall Flood, Dee O Keeffe, Liam Og and Oisin Foley training or coming back in the coming weeks? Really hope we get everyone on board its a huge commitment but if we get our things in order we are good enough to compete in leinster at least Afinestick (Wexford) - Posts: 999 - 03/01/2024 17:34:49 2518245 Link 0 |

An Anne's man told me Dee and Mogie won't be playing intercounty this year, Mogies away and Dees back is bad. He's expecting both to line out for the club though. And as far as he knows neither are definitely retired from intercounty either. Conall Flood is an excellent hurler, one of the best I've seen at underage but needs to bulk up. Matthew O Hanlon is in the gym. Not sure where he stands as regards match readiness. Haven't heard anything about Oisin Foley. Hopefully he will be back fully fit I think he will be very important for us come championship, especially if enough of the newer lads don't step up in a big way during the League.

For what it's worth I was texting a lad in Kilkenny earlier he was saying he expects the team to play Carlow the weekend will be nearly entirely new or newish. He knows alot about Carlow hurling and he had this to say about them, and Kilkenny down the line- "Yeah I think Carlow will be strong enough, they don't have enough players to go too experimental, so they might try a few lads but on the main it will be a strong team. I think they have the chance to surprise either of us but it will be a good test for the new players! On paper KK seem to have a stronger panel this year than last year, if we could find another good forward and a settled midfield partnership we will be a better team than last year" Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 20653 - 03/01/2024 18:40:58 2518252 Link 0 |

I think it's prerequisite that Kilkenny won't stand still. I've been hearing since the all Ireland final that they'll be doing a big clear out. On the other hand, they don't have the same quality in big numbers that they were producing in the 00s. We have no reason to fear them anymore and we have to maintain that. Above all, this year we need to remember a season is more than just beating Kilkenny. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4663 - 04/01/2024 08:34:28 2518282 Link 0 |

Considering Carlow panel only home from a week holiday in Morocco yesterday or today that KK will be ok.

Yes for sure. They've had issues in midfield for some years now. And they lack up and coming forwards with real pace with the possible exception of Zach Bay Hammond. Also aside from Mullen they've been really lucky, or really good preparation wise, with not getting their big players injured for long periods. That's maybe something we could learn something from them also. I personally think they have been over achieving for some while now, the last few years at this stage, playing better than the sum of their parts. And that's credit to their management, and Fitzpatrick also.

Big boost to have him back in the panel, think he's got serious potential.

Depends what they were doing in Morocco I guess countyman2022! I'm sure Tom Mulally didn't have them out there sipping pina coladas on the beach;-)

Ah ok. If Kilkenny beat them we will be playing them in the Park in our 1st competitive game of the year. Hopefully some of the newer lads will go well in the Walsh Cup.
