Dees back is currently very bad. He's not officially retired so maybe he's hoping it will improve. Mogie is rumoured to be going travelling next year but would only be 33 when he returned so maybe is thinking he'd give it one more shot then?

I'm sure whenever they decide to retire from intercounty they'd make a statement. Noone announces that they have a bad back or are going travelling. Why would they?

That's probably the end of it in this day and age but you never know. They're two exceptional men. They're playing the team of the year for a fundraiser on the first of January in gorey. Be a nice way to spend new years day I think Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4663 - 19/12/2023 15:24:16 2517404 Link 0 |

That's bad news about Whelan, I thought he wouldn't have been far off making the senior team next year. Agreed on Dundon, it's not always the silkiest players that make the best defenders at senior level. Has a good presence about him..

Agree re whelan, he has the potential to be top class. Dundon has a fair opportunity to force his way in, physically very strong no nonsense hurler with plenty of hurling ability

Reading the comments here could be down 4 players who started v KK in May with Ian Carty in Dubai and doubts over the availability of the 2 Annes stalwarts and Oisin Foley, offset slightly in that both Reck's were injured for the that game, think its vital to Rossiter that a good portion of the last 2 u20 teams make the step up the Senior and hopefully a few from the 2-3 years prior like Mike Kelly, Niall Murphy, Conor Mahoney etc. TerribleFootwork (Wexford) - Posts: 1760 - 20/12/2023 15:01:11 2517484 Link 0 |

Few players not one bit happy about it.

There's 10 odds fringe players from last year, plus another 10 or so new lads, that are mad for games though.

Players not happy about playing a harmless friendly game which is fundraising for their overseas trip. Its being played at the most optimum time over Christmas break to get the most supporters there, and ultimately more money for their trip. I'd find it fairly hard now to be honest to have much sympathy for any player moaning about the timing of a game that is only there for their benefit financially. Considering how last year went too and what was spent on them and the output shown by a lot of players, whoever isnt happy would be best placed to keep quiet, put the head down and let the hurling next year do the talking. james2011 (Wexford) - Posts: 615 - 21/12/2023 12:56:27 2517559 Link 0 |

I suspect that if there are a few grumbling about it (and I've heard nothing about that myself), then it'd most likely be lads who are on the Club Team of the Year but who aren't part of the county squad. They've to tog off for a match on New Year's Day that's months removed from anything else they're doing, and so have to take it easy on New Year's Eve instead of going on the lash. Anybody actually with the county squad - whether they're to play with the Wexford team that day, or the Team of the Year team - would surely be glad of another run out, as part of the various practice matches taking place over these few weeks. Anybody hear much about the match v Waterford last night? Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 4002 - 21/12/2023 13:39:13 2517565 Link 0 |

Was talking to a fringe player this morning who is really looking forward to it. They played waterford last night and drew he said.

I can't wait to see the group to be honest. Talking to a few of the lads involved they've remarked how professional the set up is. We have plenty of hurlers, and really it shouldn't be too difficult to improve on last year for the reasons we've all mentioned previously. On another note, it would be amazing to see dee and mogie for one more year. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4663 - 22/12/2023 09:05:54 2517616 Link 0 |

According to a couple of the lads that are there a long time the training has been alot more thorough with more attention to detail. Hopefully one major plus apart from having gameplans will be less injuries.

Both lads would still be starters for me if fully fit! Looking forward to seeing some of the new lads in a few days. The club team of the year will be the strongest team they have faced so far.
