A few of you need to lighten up. (and it is just a few) The name calling, personal attacks & over-reaction to what is after all just a sport is starting to spoil what used to be a fun forum Maroonatic (Galway) - Posts: 1072 - 05/07/2021 09:33:22 2356361 Link 2 |

people saying the umpire called it right and hawkeye proved it? im not so sure. as far as i can see hawkeye only works in one dimension as in is it going between the posts or not,not is it over the line? the umpire may have called it right but hawkeye didnt prove him right. all it proved was that it was going over the bar if eoin didnt catch it. same as brian hogan a few years back. kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 506 - 05/07/2021 09:42:39 2356364 Link 1 |

Canuck I have to agree with you..limerick have plenty of experience with him, remember he sent gillane off v cork and then played nearly10 mins injury time in all ireland final..there werea number of incidents in limerick game including boylan getting yellow when a penalty should have been given..all controversial incidents went against Clare..my opinion on Murphy was thought he was very lucky not to get a straight red, looked like he struck with Hurley..watched Sunday game and I feel they have been told to row back..I also think more needs to be done with players holding heads and taking helmets off to try and get players booked or sent off..surely some one from croke park should come out and start explaining some decisions.. I agree to a point. I've umpired for a friend who was a referee years ago. Only in club matches. But I did my best to make the right calls. And in one particular county final my friend got the score wrong he missed a point in his notebook in the lashing rain. He gave the match by a point to 1 team but everyone had it a draw including us. Myself and the other umpire at our end said to him about it. Ended up think someone had videoed the game and it got replayed. He wasnt selected to referee the replay!

Sorry for the offence Maroonatic but it was an offensive post to our players that sparked it off. And he must be the only person who watched that match that has that offensive opinion.

His comments were insulting to amateur sportsmen who gave us 90 + mins of savage commitment skill and entertainment

On the controversial penalty incidents, can this happen in club games?if so it'll cause more problems than at inter county level.. CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2628 - 05/07/2021 11:31:42 2356449 Link 0 |

Back in 1937 something more outrageous happened in Limerick County Junior Final. As there was no Intermediate Championship in the county at the time and the Limerick of the day were after winning of All in the previous couple of years winning this competition really was a big deal. The match between a West Limerick club Templeglantine and Doon, now the club of English, O'Donovan and Pat Ryan. The score was 4.17 to 4.16 but the referee misallocated one point which wrongly gave Doon the title and the result was not reversed. Decades somebody an old Doon was asked 'Were you the Doon team that won the '37 Final?' 'I was' he replied ' but we got that match wrongly, I could never look at that medal'. Them were the days when men had honour and were not the type that would throw themselves down trying to get lads put off.

Why are these draws always on at 8.35 in the mornings? What's wrong with having the draws on the Sunday Game programme?

Croke Park are quiet when it suits them to stay quiet ...... The Sunday Game should have a refereeing "pundit" say a former referee who may be able to throw light on contentious issues

Fascinating. And staying on this subject - what is this malarkey of recent years of players almost jumping into other players faces and whooping when a free is awarded to them? The great players of the past executed all the skills and weren't indulging in this "showmanship" and trying to get the crowd going when decisions went their way.

Suppose these are different days and people arent as reserved as they used to be. I never minded John Mullane or whoever doing it it's all part of the entertainment. Maybe it would rise their opponent to try harder though so Im not sure it's a smart thing to do!!!

Theres referees in Limerick and i'm sure in other counties who'd thrive on giving 3 or 4 penalties against teams they dont like for what were dubious frees to start with

I'd reckon its to do with the benefits derived from the additional listeners to radio 1 for the draw? i.e. Advertisement revenue?

Means people might tune in and have to listen the rest of the crap RTE spews out on the radio, other than the music after 7pm! Just check on line. If it wasn't for the matches I can't think of a single reason to watch RTE TV. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3879 - 05/07/2021 12:11:29 2356485 Link 2 |
