Deflection tactics methinks with the county chairman, who seems a very sensitive soul when it comes to criticism, and the local radio station. Take it on the chin and move on. 2023 was a dreadful year so let's hope 2024 will be a lot better. Agreed on Joe O'Connor. The league won't be long rolling around now and we will see what we have then.

I would very much agree with this. Have the county board nothing better to be doing than picking rights with the local radio station? I would very much dislike some of the social media abuse that was dished out after some performances but unfortunately everyone has an opinion however modern society has evolved and gives even the dimest lights among us a platform to express there opinions through social media. I would hope the players wouldn't take that chap to heart however there is no disguising the fact either than our performances never mind results last year were brutal and far away from the Standards this group are capable of. I would also go as far as to state that celebrating staying in the liam mc carthy and playing dancing at the Cross roads after beating kk was pretty embarrassing and stinks of an acceptance of mediocrity. Even our chairman's comments that we should lower of expectations because of so called dual status was an I'll informed comment. We may face the cold hard facts ,our moral standing at promoting both codes has failed to achieve anything, were in the 4th tier of the football league with realistically no prospect of getting near any form of silverware at any level and its fairly obvious that bar pockets of football strongholds, the general intrest and appetite simply isint there for football unfortunately. I genuinely feel were choosing moral high ground over the development of hurling where at least were relatively competitive at all levels and the potential is there for greater success down the line. Moving on to next year, I disagree re Shane reck. He us our best corner back and man marker by a country mile and if we've 2 corner backs better than him then I haven't seen him. I would feel devitt should be pushed forward to wing back or mid and perhaps niall Murphy, daragh kehoe,o tuama could fill in the other corner. Defensively we need a better structure and to me I'd be looking at matt to go to 6 with damo/devitt/foley the other side. Going forward werr simply not scoring enough so we need to integrate cian Byrne,Corey, tucker, cathal Doyle,Jack redmind ,o hagan. cragask1234 (Wexford) - Posts: 29 - 15/12/2023 21:00:03 2517000 Link 0 |

I agree on Shane reck. He has consistently dominated Tony Kelly. Him going off was the only reason we weren't in a semi final in 22

Love this post. Sums up exactly how we should be thinking going into a new season. Getting very excited myself but personally would like to see more harriers. Any successful wexford team has always had a good townie influence Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4663 - 15/12/2023 23:44:07 2517013 Link 0 |

I also expect lads like mick Dundon, cian molloy,Mike Kelly and eoin whelan (although still under 20) to push for places. Charlie mc based on club form defo worth at look at wing back but his speed of hurling at intercounty level still a concern. Conor mahoney in the panel viking? Huge hope with him a couple of years ago until that terrible injury. Is daragh carley back from injury? Shame about Kyle scallan and lawlor Doylerwex, josh Shiel has potential also. Luke Murphy playing wing back for your 20s was a strange one, he looked a huge forward prospect cragask1234 (Wexford) - Posts: 29 - 16/12/2023 09:33:45 2517017 Link 0 |

At the same time Richie Lawlor getting the proper operation he should've got years ago will stand to him, the Harriers, and the county in the long run. Do you know why Connall Clancy didn't give it another shot this year? Shiel is young yet if he sticks at it and gets stronger his time will come. Hopefully Scallan will be back when he's finished his course.

I would also give eoin Ryan, Justin moran ,diarmuid o leary a good opportunity in pre season. Ryan in particular has the physical attributes and tenacity needed for an inter County defender

Not sure about Carley but he is an excellent prospect. Eoin Whelan did his ACL hopefully he makes a full recovery. Think Dundon would be a good asset also, Molloy and Kelly are injured. Luke Murphy still has another year at u20 but likely wouldn't have made the Harriers team as a forward.

Hopefully they get a good shot at it. We need cornerbacks especially so it will be good to see how Ryan gets on. Hopefully Shane Reck gets used better by the new management. He doesn't suit marking big tall men. Against Dublin this year himself and O'Hanlon should've been marking eachothers men for example. Went to see Wexford v Meath on Friday as it was just down the road. Meath were very poor and a mostly second string team beat them 2-39 to maybe 10 points. Most of the more senior players did a training session. The whole set up looked very professional I had to say. Seamie Casey was probably the best player on the pitch and scored at least 12 points. There were some players I did not recognise but Fanning was in goal, Joe Connor was full back, Conor Foley was centre back, K Foley Midfield. Corey Dunbar,Cathal Doyle and Conor Mahony were flying in the forward line but tbh Meath were way off the pace. Groundball (Wexford) - Posts: 122 - 17/12/2023 09:03:48 2517125 Link 1 |

Would you have full team?

We need to get a bit of stability in terms of a goalkeeper this year, Fanning has had a tough couple of years while i wouldn't be fully sold on Lawlor yet too, are the likes of Aaron Duggan, Cian Byrne (Rosslare not Fethard) or Sean Keating in the panel at the moment? Good to hear Conor Mahoney is back flying. Think he could be a big asset to us. Also good to hear Corey Byrne Dunbar doing well. We need the likes of him and Cian Byrne to make an impact in 2024

Experimental alright, any sign of the elder statesman ie chin, McGovern, o Keefe. Hope Chins injuries have cleared up he's had a few unlucky ones in the last couple of years,

Don't think Mcgovern and O'Keefe are committing for next year.

As far as I'm aware mogie is finished. Not 100% o dee but rumours are he's done too. Thing about Joe o C is he's a bit gun hoe but has loads of hurling. That can be coached and no better man than rossi. Shame about David Clarke. He was excellent in the club championship this year Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4663 - 19/12/2023 08:20:56 2517362 Link 0 |

Would be a huge loss if so. Have been stalwarts for the last decade but they owe nothing to Wexford hurling
