Molloy is a very good hurler but in that space of time you'd imagine their fitness and hurling aren't what they should be at this stage of the year? We'll find out saturday

Hahaha oh I know it wasn't you! I just replied because you were in the conversation. On a similar but different note I'd be disappointed at how little people have mentioned Ian Carty. Super athlete and a big loss this year. I'd know his father and never met a prouder man. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3501 - 24/04/2024 10:02:36 2540347 Link 0 |
Would be good to have him and Paudie Foley back in the half back line next year!

Not going to lie I completely forgot about him, guess I sort of blanked out last year's championship out my mind haha I know we can't go on about lads not available but how much stronger would our team/panel be if we had Ian Carty, Paudi Foley, Oisin Foley, or Jack Cullen in it. We'd add so much physicality in those lads alone. Fulgrim (Wexford) - Posts: 263 - 24/04/2024 10:13:27 2540352 Link 0 |
I really don't think we have 2 wingbacks as good as those 2 in the county.

You would go a long way to meet a more passionate man about Wexford. At hurling or football.

They don't always lump high ball in. Their goals will come from link up play with Molloy, Cunning etc running from deep. They will try and pull our halfback line all over the place. Whoever we pick in the middle 8 will have to play like dogs and put in a savage shift as regards workrate. That was lacking for periods against Dublin.

And if that drops, as it did against them last year in the Park, management will want to ring the changes early to stop the rot.

For sure. I'd love to get a beer or 20 with Jack Cullen and find out why he's not bothered. AJ Redmond also.

That's true but I think the point they're making is Antrim will know what happened in the park and will want to test us in the same way. Hurling is very simple game when you do the basics well. I know the sweeper system served us well but Kilkenny games, Tipp in 19, the early part of Galway 23, Clare 22, you could argue we've been most effective when we go very direct or at least mix it up. The running game suits the players we have and we're generally good at it but we can't discount how dangerous Chin, Mac, Rory or even Jacko can be with dropping ball. Having said that we depended on Chin too much last week at great cost to Casey and Richie in particular. I hope this weekend we can tighten up at the back and be a little more varied in our use of the ball. I remember talking to Antrim lads a few years back and they called out Rory Jacob as a player they hated playing against. Once he was isolated and got the ball in hand he was near impossible to stop. I think Casey can be similar. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3501 - 24/04/2024 10:44:31 2540369 Link 0 |
Would love to see Damien Reck freed up to play midfield with Hearne but that wont happen until next year when the 2 lads are hopefully back. Id put Paudie at 6.

Antrim are targetting this game as well as Dublin and Carlow. So much so that they left some players off the panel last weekend. Galway left some players on the bench as well so obviously a differnet approach being taken in terms of targetting these games.

My team for Saturday, assuming everyone who was available vs. Dublin are available again: beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1478 - 24/04/2024 11:16:14 2540377 Link 1 |
Find this hard to fathom myself. Surely you would want to push yourself and play at the highest level if you have the ability. Seems like a waste of talent to me.

Keith confirmed in an interview with Wexford people today that Jacko and Charlie may return on Saturday. Hanlon picked up a slight knock but is okay. Other than that will be the same squad as Sunday. Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 506 - 24/04/2024 11:46:14 2540383 Link 0 |
He was very good at minor. Ahead of lads in terms of speed and aerial ability. Stickwork (hurling) not so much. Good player.

Think Rory was a trickier faster player than Seamus. More like Cathal Doyle. Or maybe Cian Byrne.

But it looks like the Elliotts were all starting and they all missed the league too

Which players did they leave off the panel? Johnston?

Makes perfect sense for them. They beat Carlow in Belfast and barring Carlow beating one of other four which is unlikely then they stay up just one one match, If Dublin had to go to Belfast I'd be worried but rarely troubled by them in Parnell.
