I for one know you weren't having a laugh. It was a very valid questions. Two poor championship performances against Dublin.

That Dublin minor team beat Galway last year at u16 and might beat them them again at the weekend. Even when we won Leinster in 2019 we didn't beat Dublin. Sunday was as close as we have come since then. It was a poor performance at the start and the end of the 1st half, and in injury time. Apart from that we did OK. At the end of the day it's in the past. All we can do is take those learnings and correct them against Antrim.

Any thoughts on the Antrim game lads? 2 of the Dunloy lads that missed the whole League were back for them against Kilkenny, and 4 of their starters were apparently rested for that game. I'm expecting to see a war up there, and our lads would need to be prepared to match what Antrim will bring by way of intensity. Or we will lose. Anyone doubting this need only watch a few re-runs of Cushendalls performances and compare them to our County Championship games. He was the standout player of the league after Casey. He was a standout player last year until he got injured. He's extremely strong, loads of energy, excellent hurling brain and probably top 5 fielders of a ball in the panel. It's not a valid question. I wouldnt even be worried about having two poor championship games. That can happen any player. I just dont see the hurling for that level. Id love to be proven wrong.

I think we should be playing him out around midfield. He made some difference when he went out there against Clare in the league. When I saw him underage he looked a certain star for senior level, like a lot of them he needs to start showing it more on the field.

Interesting you only have something to say after a bad day. Richie is a class act. He was the best player on the best minor team we had in 30 odd years. He's inexperienced at this level as he's been extremely unfortunate with injury. To question whether he has the hurling is the rambling of an upstart who knows nothing about hurling. It's going to be a big challenge. Kilkenny blew them away but surely they'll respond with a big performance at home. We need to bring our a game. To be fair I think now the dust has settled we'll bring a big effort too. The players must be raging with themselves. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3500 - 23/04/2024 20:04:45 2540249 Link 0 |
Well we won't know the answer to the question of impact off bench until it's tried. Other sports have the concept of the "finishers" off the bench, I think McGovern could be ideal in that role. As for who to replace him, options are limited enough I guess. Jacko/Dunbar/Dwyer...all inconsistent at best and Kinsella hasn't been tried much. I think we need to get Chin and Rory out to the half forward line from now on. Both can play inside but we spent all league trying Casey in there and went away from that for whatever reason. I've never been a fan of playing Chin inside, we need him out at 11. I'd go that way v Antrim. Cian or Mac in with Casey, K Foley, Chin, Rory and maybe Dunbar as the other four. Hearne and Lawlor in midfield. Timbertony (Wexford) - Posts: 375 - 23/04/2024 20:11:35 2540250 Link 0 |
Antrim rested 4 of their starters for the first round of the League Senior Hurling championship? Now that is mind boggling. I was told by a Kilkenny men yesterday it was the worst Antrim team he had seen in a long long time and if Wexford can't beat them they may give it up. Like yourself, I think if we're in any way complacent we'll be very lucky to get anything in Belfast. A win is obviously a must if we have any designs on getting out of Leinster but wouldn't it be great if we could put a good performance in for the 70+ minutes and really get a bit of positivity and confidence ahead of the Galway game. If we are thinking of winning leinster or getting to all ireland semi final we should be beating Antrim by about 20 points If not we are going no where no disrespect to Antrim that's just the way it is

Your view of a standout player is a bit different to mine so.

Antrim are solely hoping to beat Carlow id imagine with Wexford and Dublin as possible targets, especially Wexford in Belfast where they are handful usually.

Like Galway did to Carlow?

Absolutely! But I really hope the players don't think they just have to turn up. The intensity was a little disappointing for several periods last Sunday. Antrim beat Westmeath well last year, unlike us.

I don't know if it was that many or more than 4 but Keelan Molloy ( 1 of the contingent who returned after the league) been an unused sub is very noticeable, he's there best player in my opinion. I agree if we've ambitions of mixing it with Kilkenny and Galway we need to winning and winning comfortably Saturday but we're in no position to be taking anyone for granted given our recent history where we've entered games as bookies favourites.
