Kilkenny have a very busy forum of their own. This is only a forum its not going to produce any talented hurlers;-)

Some clubs in Wexford wouldn't even have 600 members never mind 600 kids! They'll be plenty of chaps at the game tomorrow picking around a ball at HT, I'm not worried about that. Young lads in the county are sports mad especially about hurling. Regarding tomorrow, look it's a toss of a coin. League means absolutely nothing which we've seen in a few games already in the football championship. Heart says Wexford but my head says it's perfectly set up for a Dublin ambush.

A lad he travels with who is also on the panel also didn't make the bench. His father is a friend of mine. I don't know why either lad isn't on the team. I'm not at training and have only seen our minors once before this year.

He travels with another lad who wasnt on the bench yesterday whose father is a friend of mine. I thought our forwards weren't great as a unit today so maybe he will get a chance in the next couple of games.

Looking at Eoin Ryan or Devitt coming in I'd imagine.

Club championship isn't everything but judging on that they were 7th and 8th in u16 in 2023, Oulart beat Harriers 3-24 1-5 in a QF and Rapps beat Martins 5-20 1-11.

If you're able to spot these things, why aren't lads at county board level able to see it and change it for the better. All I ever hear is that they're going to spend a fortune on underage development and from what I'm seeing, we're going nowhere. Just very worrying for the long term.

I think you hit the nail on the head there Viking - its the number of people who want to be involved. I am not sure many clubs have the luxury of having to turn away people wanting to be involved in coaching. The people who do put their hand up may not be the best suited or skilled to do the job but I am not so sure many clubs have any other options. Anyone can pull together development plans present them in a powerpoint but when it comes down to it bodies are needed on the ground to implement them. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1938 - 20/04/2024 22:54:00 2539407 Link 0 |
There's alot of rubbish gone to print these days so wouldn't worry about that, just look at the nonsense coming out of national media around the split season.

Cleary was never intending to stay in games development full time as far as I know, took a career break for his role with the county board, he's a primary school principal so obviously has other ambitions.

Some utterly disgraceful stuff posted on this thread today, using a bunch 15-17 years olds losing by 3 points in a round robin game to peddle obvious agendas in pretty low in my opinion. TerribleFootwork (Wexford) - Posts: 1760 - 20/04/2024 23:12:11 2539413 Link 0 |
They're bringing 100 to us this morning. Looking forward to seeing it. We've some very good and well coached young lads at that level who've been hurling indoor all winter. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3495 - 21/04/2024 07:57:32 2539436 Link 0 |
Best of luck to the lads today . Hopefully big and vocal Wexford support there given the good weather . Loch Garman abu Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 504 - 21/04/2024 07:57:36 2539437 Link 0 |
Some of us have really been pushing this agenda. Last winter there was an advanced school of hurling every week for u12s. This winter it's hoped to expand this to u11s as well as u12s. Lloyd Colfer is hoping to introduce an u12 one for football. And there were many boys who kept practicing at home, the absolute most important thing, last winter because of the A.S.H., instead of leaving their hurls in the cupboard for the winter. They told me themselves. Its 3 hours a week when all the other GAA activity I'll be involved in will be meetings at various different levels. I told Lloyd I'd help out with the football coaching, and I'll help out with the u11 and u12 hurling. It's only 3 hours a week from November til February. And last winter I learnt a huge amount from the other coaches on the A.S.H. scheme.

Definitely. Volunteerism is dying out in general in the modern world. If I had a tenner for every time I've heard "I haven't time" in recent years....

The Dublin sweeper was why they won so much ball around their halfback line. Our lads were outnumbered 2-1 or 3-2 and Dublin won all the rucks. Gethings is a good player but I think at times tried to do too much and got turned over or gave the ball away. One of Dublins points came directly from a handpass he gave to noone. Quigley played as well as I've seen any keeper play in a long time. His puckouts were excellent, really quick and accurate when a man found a pocket of space. Eoin Hughes was good too, he plays minor football as well. The inside forwards only scored one from play, not enough, and Jack Dunne might be better in midfield. Or wingforward. Kilkenny played a sweeper against Galway yesterday btw. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15367 - 21/04/2024 08:12:39 2539442 Link 0 |
And just for everyone's info we have only 4 lads who played in the Leinster final in 2019 on our Senior squad. 2 who started and 2 of the subs who came on. 1 of those subs and 1 of those starters are starting today. Which isn't too bad considering of the Galway team that hammered us in the AISF that year and beat Kilkenny pretty handy in the AI Final there is only one lad togged out for them today. I had a look at the U14 Hurling and Football schedule for the club. WEX98 (Wexford) - Posts: 474 - 21/04/2024 08:33:06 2539448 Link 0 |
Don't think Cian will start, will be Casey and Rory inside with Foley floating out into a 4 man half forward line with McGovern, Chin and Dunbar. Lawlor and Hearne in midfield. Agree with others, our bench looks weak enough.
