Last year ye improved after abandoning 'Derekball', think ye need to do the same this year, think Scallan is better in defence, play him in HB line and push Jim Berry up the field, Cassin and Clancy in midfield, Murphy and Purcell battled well but had a thankless task in the FF line.

I thought fanning for a lad under pressure this year had a good game,he stopped a ball on the goal line twice, came out of his line twice to get high balls and in general was good puckouts etc,yes he miss a couple of 100 yards out frees but I think for a lad who had a lot of question marks and talk around him he played well, which was good to see!!! On Lacey he done nothing last night for there go to man, can't remember him hitting a ball bar the frees and one score, mad what people see just opinions I suppose but no way was he there standout, the two Cooney's were the stand outs last night for Barntown and chin for the harriers!!!

Two draws last night between four real outsiders in the competition? hurlorhurley (Wexford) - Posts: 1660 - 01/07/2023 12:55:37 2490992 Link 0 |

Before last night I thought the harriers might be dark horse in championship but not convinced after watching them last night. Too reliant on chin. Richie Lawlor is a massive loss. At a loss to understand the logic behind Jim berry being played at wing back. Maybe they'll improve with a few positional changes but I have my doubts.

That's fair enough. Opinions is all they are is right. One thing we can agree on is it was an enjoyable evening Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4674 - 01/07/2023 13:22:24 2491002 Link 0 |

Full of hope myself but had lots of chances to get a result last night and didn't seem to know what to do

Tbh the best I've seen Kyle Scallan play in the last few years was when he was playing football for Maudlintown.

Is Clancy mobile enough for midfield? Murphy and Purcell both still a little light for Senior.

The Harriers have been too reliant on Chin for the last 12 years

Great start to the campaign for St Anne's beating St Martins. They always seem to be able to pull big performances out of the bag. Two points could be valuable come the end of the championship. Bit of a wake up call for the Martins but you'd expect them to bounce back and still contend for first place WexMurph (Wexford) - Posts: 368 - 01/07/2023 19:15:51 2491098 Link 0 |

That was hard to watch. Probably as poor a game as you'll ever see. A free fest . Both teams forgot they were playing a game of hurling

You would imagine Shels and Martins will improve. But 2 points in the bag for Anne's and Ferns will be a big step to qualifying for the QFs. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 20706 - 01/07/2023 21:30:12 2491140 Link 0 |

Wins as expected for the Alley and Jimmys. Big win for Gusserane against Horeswood. Tara Rocks off to a winning start too. Anyone at any of those games? Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 20706 - 01/07/2023 21:34:55 2491145 Link 0 |

Yes Viking, I watched the Rocks v askamore game. Decent enough game but askamore lost their way when PJ Nolan went off injured. Young ? Curtis was lively and v good on frees for the rocks. Devitt showed his class too. Nothing much else to report !!

I think that's a little unfair. Jim Berry was probably the best club player in wexford at that time Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4674 - 01/07/2023 21:55:25 2491162 Link 0 |

Fair, maybe last ten years then :L I'm my opinion John Leacy has been one of the best club hurlers in the county last decade or so, pity he never really got a consistent run with Wexford , and I could nearly say the same for football WexMurph (Wexford) - Posts: 368 - 01/07/2023 22:07:48 2491170 Link 0 |

Clancy is mobile enough in my opinion but can drift in and out of games.

I made it in to Ross today for the Adamstown and Jimmies game. Overall it was very poor game, the Jimmies always looked like winning but never really pulled away. I think there a good side and have a couple of new faces this year. It'll be interesting to see how they get on over the next few weeks. Adamstown looked very poor, I think they lost 4 during the game to injuries. I think they could be in trouble this year if the injury's, a couple of them did look serious enough. I know they will have a couple to come back in but overall they did look quite weak to me. JT22 (Wexford) - Posts: 62 - 01/07/2023 23:00:24 2491193 Link 0 |
