Replying To WexMurph: "St Anne's V martins- Could be closer than what people think but Martins by 3 Naomi Eanna V oilgate - Gorey to have too much although do expect Oilgate to be in mix for quarter finals Glynn v Harriers- Hard to call with both teams missing players but I think Harriers should win by 5+ with Chin to the fore. Rowan white huge loss to Glynn. Rathnure v Rapps- Think Rathnure will win this one by 2 Oulart v Crossabeg- big two points on offer and a lot will depend on the availability of Paudie Foley. Think Oulart might just sneak it" St. Annes vs St. Martins - Martins by 4 my favourites for the championship if they keep the two O'Connors fit Naomh Eanna vs Oylegate - Sneaky Feeling about Oylegate to win by 1 Glynn vs Harriers - Harriers by 5, Glynn could struggle if they're missing so many from last year.
Shels vs Ferns - Ferns by 2, revenge on the Shels for beating them last year and starting off their title defence strongly Rapps vs Rathnure - Rathnure by 1 in a high scoring contest. Oulart vs Crossabeg - Oulart to mark their comeback with a win by 3. Lot riding on how match fit Paudie Foley is after his comeback.

St Anne's v St Martins. St Martins With Rory back this year, I would have the Martins as the favourites to win the chamionship outright. Hard to know what Annes team will turn up.
Naomh eanna vs oilgate. Dessie Mythen over Oylegate is an interesting side story to this, to see how he goes. Oylegate on there day are capable of beating anyone. Im actually going to go against the form book and fancy them to win.
Glynn vs harries. Heard Glynn have losta number of players this year and arent going well. I think Harriers should win this one.
Shels v ferns. Ferns winners last year against a always competitive Shels team. I would fancy the Shels just to have too much for Ferns.
Rathnure v rapps. Rathnure always seem to have a decent team on paper but the last few championships have been poor. Rapps will be in the shake up at the end so I fancy them to come through this, winning by 5 or 6.
Oulart v crossabeg. Paudie Foley back makes a massive difference to Ballymurn while Oulart back up Senior will be looking to make there mark. I actually think these are the two weakest teams in this group and feel the loser of this will face relegation at the end of year so it really is a massive game for both.
Bunclody v taghmon. Unknown what to expect from Bunclody as they played no league while Taghmon were bet well in the league semi final. They did reach the final last year but I thought they had a slice of luck with the draw.I would say HWH by 3.
St James v Adamstown. St James Adamstown have been in the bottom few every year for the past few years while St. James are a classic football team, strong and physical without being to technical. I think they will have enough for Adamstown.
Askamore v Tara rocks. Askamore looked excellent in the league final and have looked good most of the year so far while Tara Rocks have been very poor. While they were missing alot of players due to county teams, I think this game will have come too early for them to gel so Askamore by 5.
Fethard v cloughbawn. I heard Bob Whitty is injured so he will be a big loss of true along with Colm Kehoe. Fethard have been going really bad this year so far so expect Cloughbawn to win by 3.
Gusserane v horeswood. Horeswood first year up intermediate but I think they might struggles this year. I know alot of teams come up from Intermediate a and do well but I just get the feeling they well be under pressure throughout the championship. Gusserane to win this.
Alley v Blackwater. Buffers Alley after winning the league should be in good form while Blackwater had an indifferent league campaign. Expect the Alley to continue the league form and win by 4.
On another note, I know its been said here before but I really think the championship needs to revert to alternative weekends. A few important players are injured for some of the senior teams and are now missing a large chunk of the championship and for the first time alot of players are still traveling and they wont get back in time. This shouldnt be the case. Also alternative weekends makes it fair for everyone and also means the championship isnt over in a blink of an eye. Its still set weekends so all the players know when the championship is on. I know its a conversation for another day but just thought I would throw in my twopence.

Alternate weeks favours clubs who concentrate on football or hurling but not both. Or the big clubs who have huge adult playing numbers and only have about half or less of their hurling 1st team playing first team football. How is that fair on the majority of clubs who have 3/4s or more of their first team hurlers also on their first team for football?

Before you think I'm from a big club, I'm not. I am from a smaller club, smaller than your own club taghmon where 90% of players play both, where hurling would be our first preference and if we went back to alternate weekends we would lose some players. It's fair in that both hurling and football get a fair share. Surely you have to agree a player gets injured it's ridiculous that he can miss most of the group games! Also at the minute the hurling championship is over in about 6-7 weeks. At least with alternative weekends, players can get a chance to recover.
And your point about the dual player, what's the difference at the minute between playing alternative weekends to playing hurling first and football second. They are still playing the same amount of matches in the group.

Glynn v Harriers- Think Glynn could struggle this year down so many players, Harriers by 4 Oilgate v Gorey- Heard Oilgate are going well but still think Gorey will be to strong Annes v Martins- Could be game of the weekend, Martins by 2 or 3 Crossabeg v Oulart- Think the 2 Foley's could sway it Crossabeg's way by 1 or 2 Rathnure v Rapps- Rapps have struggled this year by reports but I think they'll still have enough to win by 3 or 4 Ferns v Shels- Shels by 2 or 3
B Alley v Blackwater- Alley, open grade this year but I'd have them early favourites Askamore v Tara Rocks- Askamore, impressive by all accounts in the league final St James v Adamstown- Jimmies by 4 or 5 Gusserane v Horeswood- Horeswood by 1, Gusserane could be short a fair amount between injuries and travel Bunclody v Taghmon- Draw Cloughbawn v Fethard- Cloughbawn by a point or 2

Most dual players and clubs in with a chance of success in both codes prefer the current set up as it allows them to concentrate on one sport at a time. You state in your post that your club would be more a hurling one, so likely be while our lads were concentrating on football in the alternate week yours would still be concentrating on hurling. That would give them an advantage for the hurling. As regards injuries if you are a dual club with dual players if someone is injured for 6 weeks they will miss 6 important games whether there is a split season or alternate weeks. If you prioritise one code that player would only miss 3 important games which is unfair on clubs that prioritise both codes.

Ah, all the same arguments in favour of and against the split season. Is it getting near November decision time for 2024 already? :)

Replying To Pikeman96: "Ah, all the same arguments in favour of and against the split season. Maybe allowing for a week off or two somewhere along the line if atall possible

Replying To Viking66: "Haven't come across anyone who voted for the split season before who wants it changed now. But you never know." As a player I like it but for the better of the standard of Wexford hurling and football I think we need to change. The split season also gives our hurling teams a huge disadvantage going into leinster club championship

Replying To Viking66: "Haven't come across anyone who voted for the split season before who wants it changed now. But you never know." Ah, there are plenty. The vote in November 2021 for how the '22 season would work was roughly 80/20 in favour of split season. The vote last November to decide how this year would work was much closer - something like 31 votes to 29. Very little in it.
That's a lot of people/clubs after changing their views on it.

Change to alternate weeks hands the advantage against the dual clubs. People would be up in arms about it. You can't please everyone.
