They aren't exactly old TerribleFootwork even by intercounty standards. Kevin and Jippo are only 28 I think.

Big blow for the harriers losing an Intercounty senior but would imagine lots of clubs in the county will be missing players with travelling etc.

True but as I said seems to be the same lads every year so a bit of staleness could set in, I'd say Pepper and Larkin are the only 2 on their team under 26.

Yeah Glynn for example missing alot from what I know Rowan White, Matt Doyle, Shane Wilde, 1 of the Joyces all away, Micheal and Brendan Doyle both retired, Jack Fenlon was playing in Dublin last year don't know if he's back. Seen 1 of their league games they did have Conor Mahony back who was plagued by injuries the last 2-3 years. O'Regan wasn't playing that evening but don't know the reason for that.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. If footballers reach the TC Final and club championships don't get to start until weekend of July 21 to 23, then either there'd have to be a stack of midweek games to get everything finished by mid-October to have football teams compete in Leinster Championship, or else just accept that they couldn't be finished in time to have football teams in Leinster. I reckon too that our championships must be very long by national standards, taking 16 rounds of fixtures altogether. I've pointed out before that we're one of the few counties where exactly the same system operates for hurling and football. Also, in other counties with more of a distinction between hurling areas and football areas, they're sometimes able to play both hurling and football championship fixtures on the same weekend. But with probably 90-something per cent of players in Wexford playing both codes, that's not an option here either. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 4052 - 16/06/2023 13:38:06 2486881 Link 1 |

There is far too many matches in Club Chamionships in Wexford. 30 games to get the 8 quarter finalists with only 4 teams exiting championship. Too many.

I know their football championship is already played so plenty more weekends available but in Kilkenny they actually play 30 games to get rid of no teams, think Ballyhale won the championship 1 year after finishing 5th in the group, they've actually lost a good few group games the last few years but they get their **** together for knockout stages. I think the 1 awkward thing with 12 teams grades is 3 groups of 4 can get complex in terms of some 3rd placed teams making knockouts and others not while groups of 3 probably isn't enough games given the effort players put training wise over the year. When it was agreed to switch back to two groups of six after the two "Covid championships", CCCC brought a proposal that only three teams would qualify from each group - the top team going straight to the semi-finals, and second and third going into quarter-finals. Clubs were unanimous or near-unanimous in voting against it, because of course it would mean less of a chance for them to qualify. Bit of a turkeys and Christmas situation. That proposal wouldn't have shortened the championship time wise at all. There just would've been less quarterfinalists. Not less weekends of club championship football and hurling.

Went to to have a look at the Buffers Alley Askamore game yesterday. Buffers Alley beat Askamore by 2 points yesterday in a very competitive Division 1 league final. I think both teams will have a huge say in the Intermediate championship. Askamore played a lot of the match with 14 men Afinestick (Wexford) - Posts: 999 - 19/06/2023 09:28:55 2487068 Link 0 |

I know. I was just replying to the other poster's point about too many games being played to eliminate too few times. That proposal would have addressed that all right. But as you point out, still wouldn't have reduced the number of rounds needed in each championship. That's a separate issue that would need a whole other (and far more radical) solution. Askamore beat us well in the semifinal too. Still think Cloughbawn and Fethard are the 2 teams to beat.

I still think an All-Ireland hurling final in October with 2 designated to clubs every week throughout the summer would be a better solution for both club and county players than the break-neck speed of both championships. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1635 - 19/06/2023 13:37:09 2487322 Link 0 |

Cloughbawn have two season ending injuries to prob their two top players - so unless they can replace those they may not be up to much

Is there a master fixture plan that details the times and venues of each match anywhere online? I can only find the fixtures for the first round of matches on the Wexford GAA website. Frontier1000 (Cork) - Posts: 66 - 19/06/2023 17:24:13 2487529 Link 0 |

It's only for the first round that times, venues and exact dates have been announced so far - main reason being that for so long as our footballers were still in the Tailteann Cup, it wasn't known for sure exactly when these matches would take place. Would expect to see fixtures for Rounds 2 and 3 next week. You can be sure though that there'll be a full round of fixtures played each weekend until the championship is complete. Also, each club already knows the order in which their group matches will come, since it's related to the order in which the names came out at the draw a few months ago. But I don't think that sort of full "master" list is actually published anywhere. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 4052 - 19/06/2023 20:39:32 2487603 Link 0 |
