Replying To tearintom: "Anyway, back to the championship at hand.
Looking at the games whats effectively on the line? Its funny looking at the change in the rules where more than 2 teams finish level and hearing a bit of kick back/whinge from clubs in regards to the rule change, it feeds into my belief that clubs dont even know what theyre voting for
Effectively theres something on the line for every team in group part from the Martins and Naomh Eanna. Annes are safe from relegation but not guaranteed a QF spot, meanwhile any of Oilgate/Glynn and the Harriers can find themselves in the QF/5th or in relegation
Not much on the line really in group B apart from an effective relegation semi final, other 2 games are effective dead rubbers.
Same in Intermediate group A only 1 game that effectively matters out of 3, in group B 2 out of the 3 have something riding on it, Horeswood already in relegation
Intermediate A group A is the same, only 1 dead rubber tbf and the same in the other group.
Junior also has something riding on 4 out of the 6 games
Junior A is more or less done really in group A , Glynn are in dire straits but Group B has somethign riding on each game.
I could be wrong but in terms of dead rubbers i think this year has seen an improvement?" I know what you mean on the group B dead rubbers in Senior but they are only that for the sake of qualifying, I don't see any of these teams taking it easy and not going for it, nobody will want to go into the QF next weekend off losing this weekend. Players need to be on form and the systems working at this stage - losing this weekend creates doubt.

Predictions for the weekend
Harriers v martins: think the harriers could be dangerous on Sunday after winning the last day , gonna call a surprise win for harriers martins already through Barntown v Oilgate : barntown struggling all year very hard to build a team in senior it's so cutthroat Oilgate by 3 with the recks to the fore Anne's v Naomh eanna: Anne's not hurling well but think they will pull a big one out and win by 2
Rathnure v oulart: big match form says oulart but think rathnure will strike and win by 2 Ferns v crossabeg : think crossabeg might win this ferns guaranteed top spot might rest players Rapps v shels : shels by 5

Gorey we're beaten by crossabeg last year nobody expected. Remember fethard beat st martins a few years ago aswell in the last game. Surely teams have to have one eye on the quarter final, no point peaking a week early.

But for example the Adamstown Taghmon game is between 2 teams that really couldn't care less about the game except it being for bragging rights over the neighbours. Both will be looking towards next weekend.

So thats the intermediate group stages over. Some great fixtures in the quarter finals.
Tara rocks and cloughbawn the two teams with 100% records. Cloughbawn defense looks impressive with just 65 against after the 5 games.
Interesting to see the new rules where Taghmon claimed 2nd spot based on head to head. I think this is a fairer system.
Any team can beat each other on a given day.
Winners of the quarter finals for me:
Tara rocks Cloughbawn Taghmon Alley.
2 teams from each group. Interesting to see how fatigue and injuries will play a part. Some teams playing with small panels.
That head to head rule could play a massive part in the senior games today.

Tara Rocks v Fethard Taghmon v Blackwater Buffers Alley v St. James Cloughbawn v Askamore
Lot of interesting match ups in the quarter finals. Bar Cloughbawn, their is nothing between the other teams and I would think in all the quarter finals there will only be a puc of a ball. Last round of matches went more or less as expected. Adamstown putting in a good show against Taghmon which I think might make them slight favourites in the relegation final. Always believe in momentum so presume taghmon rested players. Blackwater started poorly but looked really good in the second half with a few players to come back. Askamore similar, although wind probably played a big factor in both those games. Tara Rocks, Kilanerin looking good again but they will be playing a resurgent Fethard in the quarters.
All sets it up nicely for next weekend, still of the thought that the Cloughbawn group is a lot stronger but the quarter final games will tell

Think Jimmys will beat the Alley. Hopefully Taghmon will beat Blackwater. Closest game might turn out to be Rocks v Fethard but thats making the big assumption that Fethard might get their act together. They were pretty poor throughout the group stages while Tara Rocks were excellent. After seeing a good few games in the Group stages in both groups I'd be a little surprised if 3 group A teams didn't qualify for the semis. Cloughbawn St James Tara Rocks Taghmon.

The new head-to-head rule didn't actually affect Taghmon-Camross claiming second place over St. James', because it was only those two teams level on points, as so it was decided by the direct head-to-head in the same way as has happened for several years now.
The new rules only come into play if there are three or more teams level on points, but yes, it could prove hugely important in Senior Group A later today.

Watched Oulart-Rathnure. Lorcan Nimmo gave a performance for the ages- eight points from play in those conditions is serious scoring. Don't know much about him-is he worth considering? Thought Jack Redmond was excellent too after an indifferent campaign and Shane Lawlor had his moments. Rathnure are so naive tactically though, but still expect them to overcome Glynn in the relegation play-off.
Caught two intermediate A games yesterday- one was glorified shadow-boxing between two sides already through, the other was one-sided in spite of what was on the line. Monageer blew Mellows away despite playing 3/4s of the game with fourteen men, and the entire second half against the wind. Quietly going about their business in a wide-open grade. The arse has really fallen out of the Mellows though- they were a puck of the ball away from winning both of the last two county finals but were a long way off that this campaign.

Strange one with Liam Mellows alright l, I see their senior footballers were playing a super 7s blitz in Dublin at the weekend

I think Nimmo is only 22. That is serious scoring for sure. Taghmon held him scoreless in last year's Intermediate final and he was subbed off midway through the 2nd half. He only scored 1 point in the 36 point hammering they dished out in the group stage also.

Top half of the senior draw looks interesting.
One of rapps and naomh eanna will exit this weekend and the winner more than likely meeting martins in the semi final.
On the other side i think oylegate will give ferns plenty of think about.
St annes form has dipped so i see shels winning that.

Was in Bellefield on Saturday for Intermediate double header, Bunclody will rue alot of wides with the wind in the 1st half, Tucker Kinsella best forward on show by a bit and probably the difference in teams. Blackwater/Gusserane hinged on the 10 mins before half time where Blackwater shaved a 9 point deficit to 2 with the wind to come in the 2nd half. Reckon them and Taghmon will be tight.
In the park yesterday Glynn really went down with a whimper against Oilgate, 6 down at HT with a strong breeze to come, the game was in the balance but only 1-3 with the breeze is not good enough, there backs hurled well but they got nothing of their forward line, Oilgate's use of the ball and workrate was really good their goal was a brilliantly worked team goal. Oulart Rathnure was a really good game considering the conditions good performances on both sides Shaun Murphy, Billy Dunne, Gareth Sinnott, Nimmo, Jack Redmond, Shane Lawlor, AJ Redmond still out believe his injury against Crossabeg was a bad concussion. I've been to Rathnure last 4 games and some of the goals they give away are awful for this level, I taught they were getting the upper hand during the 2nd half but Oulart pushed on last 10 mins to see it out.

St annes form has dipped so i see shels winning that." St Martins to beat Crossabeg by 8-10 points , St Martins have had their ease off the pedal game now and will be be rightly getting a right rollicking from their management this week, if they have anything about them they need to start showing it now. A team of very good players but something which is hard to put the finger on about them. Do they think they are far better than everyone else or something? Crossabeg have done well to get this far and while they will be spirited, will ultimately be blown away by St Martins.
Rapps to beat Naomh Eanna by 3-5 points, interesting game between two strong town teams, I have a liking for the Rapperees in this one, I think the big battle between Ryan and McDonald will be brilliant for the neutral to watch.
St Annes to beat Shels by 3-5 points, after a tough week to 10 days in St Annes, they bounced back in true St Annes fashion to get the job done yesterday v Naomh Eanna. No real surprise there as their character is immense. Shels haven't quite been at it this championship in my opinion and they will need to improve significantly to get over St Annes. For me the Rathangan men will march on in this game.
Ferns to beat Oylgate by 5-7 points. I fully expect Oylgate to give this one a right rattle, they have a very distinct style of play and have competed very strongly in every game so far. I just think Ferns will have a bit too much for them. The match ups in this one will be crucial for Oylgate to stop the scoring power of Ferns.
The weather is not looking wonderful for next weekend also so has to taken into consideration too when making any predictions.
Relegation final on last nights showings hard to see how Glynn Barntown win that but they have two weeks to work on it. Rathnure have done okay in some of their games but cannot sustain the momentum in games and get turned over pretty easy in the end of all their games. Will hold off predicting anything for this game, as there is a two week window for players to return from overseas etc to answer the call !!!!!!!!
