Replying To WEX98:  "Oylegate have been doing this now for a number of years.

I can't understand when you have one of the best centre backs in the country and one of the best man markers (held TK twice) and we play a sweeper.

Get the ball into Podges hand and he'll score. Give the opposition a default sweeper and he'll sit in front of 14. Add in playing your corner forward beside your 14 now there's a goal keeper, 3 backs and 2 fowards in the square under a hight ball"
Agree with you. Inside forwards need space to operate in. Either in front of, or behind, them.

Replying To ElGranSenor:  "I think if you're looking to bring another Ferns player into the Wexford panel, I'd have Gavin Bailey ahead of Diarmuid Doyle.

Gavin Bailey in midfield could be our own Darragh O'Donovan. We often talk about how flat Wexford were at times this year. Let me assure you one thing, there would be zero chance of Wexford being flat in midfield if a 100% fit Gavin Bailey was playing there, he lays down the law in the middle of the field."
You could have a look at both too :)

Rochford would be another to look at for midfield.

All of the players people are suggesting have already been 'looked at'

Is Doran still an option for the county setup? Been away from it a few years. If we start going direct more next year his ability to win the ball in the air might still be an asset.

Replying To beano:  "Martin's not helped by the fact they lost a couple to the seniors in a game they won comfortably and thus there wasn't the need to impact the second team. If I was their manager, I'd be royally ******.

Looking at the intermediate A championship, and it is definitely stacked in quality in one group compared to the other. I'd have Cushinstown as the front-runners regardless, but the likes of Mellows, in no-mans land in the group as it stands, would probably be in the top two in the other group. Its going to be a dramatic finish.

Am I the only one that thinks the senior championship hasn't caught fire yet and has been poor overall? There hasn't really been a shock, even yesterday's result means nothing in the grand scheme of things as Shels are through anyway. Of the two marquee games of the entire block of fixtures, one ended up one-sided in the end (Martins-Gorey) and the other was low in quality if close (Ferns-Rapps). I know there have been first ever wins for teams over others, but that is more reflective of the changing landscape of the championship. Compared to last year's final round of group games, really only one tie is carrying jeopardy.

By all means keep playing week on week though. No other team competition in the world does it."
Group stage quality has been diluted by three very poor teams this year unfortunately. Dont think that's been the case in the past as much? Harriers been disappointing too so far but might still get going. All the qualified teams can treat next week's games as practice matches really which is disappointing.

Just from looking at the best Intermediate teams v weaker senior teams, just wonder is there a danger of a bit of a yo-yo affect (West Brom!) in next few years? Oulart up, will do well to avoid going back down. Cloughbawn up and down. Rathnure doing very well to avoid the drop, might not this year.

You can always get called back in, look at David Reidy, dropped off the Limerick panel in 2017, started yesterday.

In fairness to Doran he was a brilliant ball winner in his day but I think at this stage it would be hard for him he's over 70 at this stage of his life

You don't need 70 minutes for every player. I'm playing Aussie Rules at the moment at a moderate level, and a couple of our players are in their 40's and know they won't be the full game in them but they train accordingly to give 10-15 minutes in the team. They get to skip some of the hard graft, because our fitness coach has a brain and knows they are not able for more but they have something to contribute.
GAA culture is stupid if they feel every player has to do the same training, and experienced players can't be accommodated. Many Wexford hurlers are nearing 30 yet by no means should any be retiring, we should be keeping them there as impact subs like Graham Mulcahy. Wexford does not have the luxury to just cast players aside until better players get up to speed.

Rochford did OK but didn't want to commit the following year.

Podge stepped away 6 years ago of his own accord and he wasn't willing to make the sacrifices to ultimately be an impact sub, he's 32 or 33 now and while he's still very dangerous at club level in and around the goal I think injuries have curtailed him from the player he was.

I see the Annes and Harriers game is fixed for Wednesday. The Harriers have to win it to have a hope of a QF place, the Annes as unlikely as it may seem wouldn't be safe either if the lose. Playing a full on game and then turning it around and playing on the Fri/Sat will be tough.

Replying To TerribleFootwork:  "Think Ryan Mahon was sweeper and Foley midfield or centre forward, Foley was brilliant further forward in the 2nd half."
Think we should look at playing Kevin Foley further up the pitch at 11 for Wexford next season. He played a lot there underage and for the club. Well able to distribute the ball and score. Waste playing him like a second full back and think he lacks a bit of mobility and power for midfield at inter county.

His clubmate Liam Ryan is another one who seems wasted to me at 3. Easily good enough to play at 6 but maybe a bit like Lawlor for KK you are stuck then for a 3 and end up putting him back there come championship.

Not much that can be done about that with 2 groups of 6

When clubs were voting after the "Covid championships" on whether or not to go back to two groups of six, they were told it wouldn't be possible to keep All-Ireland Sundays free of club fixtures. They voted for it anyway.

Ryan or MOH have to play 3 I think. Niall Murphy is a good club and Fitzgibbon 3 but not physically strong enough to play there intercounty yet.

See the first round of the senior club football is away against the Westmeath champions on the 21/22 of October. Would be better off conceding this and allowing teams prepare properly for the club football championship, and also allow a break in the knockout stages of the hurling. Say most players are burnt out

It was stated all right at the full County Board meeting (i.e. club delegates) to decide championship structures for this year that one option would be to forego participation in the Leinster Club Football Championships, in order to give us more time to run our own club championships.

The vote was 100% against.
