Replying To Viking66:  "Senior-

Martins
Harriers
Gorey
Ferns
Shels
Rapps

Intermediate-

St James
Taghmon
Bunclody
Cloughbawn
Buffers Alley
Fethard"
In Senior I think Gorey, Martins, Shels and Rapps will all get the win they need to mathematically secure progress to QF, Annes and Harriers should be close and I think due to their greater need Harriers might upset the recent form book and get a narrow win, Ferns are already through so might have an edge off them but don't think Rathnure are good enough at the moment to take advantage of it so a Ferns win for me.

In Intermediate I'll go for Cloughbawn, Bunclody, Buffers Alley, Fethard, Taghmon and a draw between Askamore and the Jimmies.

Went in to see Cushinstown v Shels in Inter A this evening. Fairly full blooded and close game, with noone leading by more than 3 and the lead changing hands multiple times throughout the game.
Surprisingly, to me any way, Cushinstown played a very short game overall, which I wasn't expecting from a side John Mullane was involved with. When it clicked it looked very very good, but loose passes, drops, missed pick ups and a ref who was keeping a close eye on throw balls often made it look bad. Matthew Cody, looked lively and got on alot of ball, James Quinn looked hard to stop when he got on a run, and Daire Bolger was excellent on the frees.
For Shels Captain Brian Murphy was good in goal with a good save from Quinn and also saving a penalty at full length to his left. He generally went long with the puckouts but bad handling meant a good few of the 2nd balls were lost.
If Cushinstown can fine tune their short game by the knockout stages they will make the return to Intermediate that I thought they would make last year.

Yeah think Cushinstown could be frontrunners too, if the Martins kept their team together they would be strong but think they've lost 3 or 4 to their 1st team over the last 2 weeks including Jack Devereux and Ben Maddock who have alot of Senior experience.

Luckily for them their still through as Rapps beat Oulart in the 2nd game in the Park, was in at those 2 games and the 2 in Bellefield. Martins looked strong once again in the 2nd half against an Oilgate team who's plan A,B,C & D seemed to be long ball to Podge, Martins wised up to this early on and generally crowded the area in front of goal. Jack O'Connor was outstanding at midfield and Rory O'Connor and Joe Coleman also very good. Ferns kept Rathnure at arms length most of the game, Ian Byrne got a goal in the 1st 10 mins and they generally kept a lead between 3-9 points for the remainder of game, whoever the new Wexford manager is 1 lad I'd tell them in to keep an eye on is Diarmuid Doyle, got a lovely goal and has a brilliant burst of speed. Think he was in the panel in 2022. Crossabeg/ Shels was the game played in the worst conditions with a few downpours pre game and during the game, Shels will rue several missed chances both wides and goal chances. Simon Donohoe and Paudie Foley 2 standouts in this game while moving Ronan Devereux to wing back to pick up Conor Hearne worked well for Crossabeg, reckon this is their 1st QF since the 90s. Oulart/ Rapps was an enjoyable contest with some brilliant scores during the game, final scoreline flattered Rapps, Oulart were ahead with 16 mins left and still in the game in injury time before Rapps got the final 1-2. Kevin Foley was outstanding at centre forward with Gooch and Ryan Mahon good too Liam Ryan got 3 points from play in the 1st half can't remember a full back ever doing that, special to Rory Jacob and Benny Jordan for Ferns who at the tail end of their careers were both excellent today. That leaves Ferns, Rapps, Crossabeg, Shels, Gorey & Martins all qualified for the last 8, Glynn fighting for survival, Oulart and Rathnure essentially a relegation semi final next week, last 2 QF spots between Annes, Oilgate and Harriers. Annes only need a point from the 2 remaining games to be certain and even with 2 loses might get through, if 2 teams finish level head to head decides things and points difference if its 3 teams so Oilgate could still get dragged into the relegation picture if they lose to Glynn and other results go against them.

Streamed the harriers and Anne's game. Anne's started very strongly and went up by 6 I think at one stage but harriers came back into it strongly and we're two up at the break. Think it's been refixed for Wednesday night.
Also watched the double header in belle field. Martins looking very slick the delivery of ball into their forwards was top class. Joe Coleman clipped a few over and Rory o Connor was good too. Oilgste will be looking to bounce back next week they played well in the first half but had a man sent off and went downhill after that. Rathnure battled well enough but ferns always gonna have too much.!ferns set up very well. Rathnure went with sweeper and couldn't get enough scores with the breeze playing aimless balls inside . Ian Byrne and diarmuid Doyle hurled well. Benny Jordan still going well

Martin's not helped by the fact they lost a couple to the seniors in a game they won comfortably and thus there wasn't the need to impact the second team. If I was their manager, I'd be royally peed.

Looking at the intermediate A championship, and it is definitely stacked in quality in one group compared to the other. I'd have Cushinstown as the front-runners regardless, but the likes of Mellows, in no-mans land in the group as it stands, would probably be in the top two in the other group. Its going to be a dramatic finish.

Am I the only one that thinks the senior championship hasn't caught fire yet and has been poor overall? There hasn't really been a shock, even yesterday's result means nothing in the grand scheme of things as Shels are through anyway. Of the two marquee games of the entire block of fixtures, one ended up one-sided in the end (Martins-Gorey) and the other was low in quality if close (Ferns-Rapps). I know there have been first ever wins for teams over others, but that is more reflective of the changing landscape of the championship. Compared to last year's final round of group games, really only one tie is carrying jeopardy.

By all means keep playing week on week though. No other team competition in the world does it.

After looking at the results this year I'm wondering as a county should we be looking at the likes of diarmuid McDonald getting involved with the county senior set up? He's played for Wexford in the past and my opinion has done a great job with Crossabeg Ballymurn. In his time in charge they have been promoted to senior and this year qualified for the 1/4 finals with a game to spare. He seems to be very tactically aware and appears to be getting the maximum out of a limited numbers wide player pool

Was Kevin Foley not playing as a sweeper in the first half, he changed the game for them in the second half. In the first half Liam Ryan looked the Raps biggest scoring threat. Nick Doyle is dangerous, great goal and because if his size he never gets the frees he deserves.

Think Ryan Mahon was sweeper and Foley midfield or centre forward, Foley was brilliant further forward in the 2nd half.

Went up to Patrick's Park for the double header.
In the 1st game Askamore looked like they were still in their cars for most of the 1st half as Jimmies bossed the game. Noone was picking up Shane Murphy as he dropped deep and he was a threat every time he got on the ball. As against Taghmon Jimmies won nearly all the 50/50 ball in the middle 3rd. Robbie Barrons distribution was superb. In the 2nd half Askamore improved, and when they had a lad sent off it seemed to wake them up and drive them on. They closed to within 4 and hit the crossbar as they made a good go of it. However they never really looked like winning it.
In the 2nd game Tara Rocks started strongly . Taghmon were strangely lethargic and their usual intensity was lacking, maybe on account of already being qualified. For the Rocks Niall Murphy and Conor Devitt bossed the game around midfield and noone seemed to be picking them up.
Taghmons distribution from the back was poor with many aimless balls up the pitch, although Stephen O Gorman showed well and won plenty of ball he probably had no right winning. Ian Carty was rested for the 1st half and Taghmons distribution noticeably improved when he came on for the 2nd half. However Hughes and Devitt were still getting on plenty of ball, and despite having a penalty saved Tara Rocks still did enough to keep ahead of Taghmon, who never got closer than 6 points to the winners.

Near enough every team sport in the world plays week on week. Soccer, NFL, Rugby, AFL, etc.

I think if you're looking to bring another Ferns player into the Wexford panel, I'd have Gavin Bailey ahead of Diarmuid Doyle.

Gavin Bailey in midfield could be our own Darragh O'Donovan. We often talk about how flat Wexford were at times this year. Let me assure you one thing, there would be zero chance of Wexford being flat in midfield if a 100% fit Gavin Bailey was playing there, he lays down the law in the middle of the field.

Agreed. Gavin Bailey would definitely add strength and bite there. He didn't look fully fit in the Walsh Cup this year but by November/December he hopefully will be.

Oylegate have been doing this now for a number of years.

I can't understand when you have one of the best centre backs in the country and one of the best man markers (held TK twice) and we play a sweeper.

Get the ball into Podges hand and he'll score. Give the opposition a default sweeper and he'll sit in front of 14. Add in playing your corner forward beside your 14 now there's a goal keeper, 3 backs and 2 fowards in the square under a hight ball
