Injuries are all part of the thing. Bad luck to get them, but I'd say every club has walking wounded playing, as well as lads out injured. There is no other time of year to fit the club u21 championships in really is the problem.

Replying To Viking66:  "But they are living in those parishes?"
There are a few players living in town who play for the big 3 almost townie teams . Same as there are players playing for townie teams that live in their parishes . Think if the parents are dedicated to a club they will bring their children to that club either in out out of town . Lot of former ex country club players would nt let their children play for townie team for whatever they perceive to be the reasoning.
If you look through the underage teams you will see managers/mentors of these teams who live in town or in other parishes and drive to their preferred choice of club in or out of town . Some high profile some not so much but it is happening. Would you think there is enough of a young population in wexford town to field 4 underage football teams if the parish boundaries were enforced rigidly . Ie you cannot play for any other team other than the team in your parish .
Very few young players actually living inside town perimeters. Very few families have more than 2 kids . Not like 40 /50years ago when the towns had large families and more densely populated . As incomes grew people moved to suburbs and outskirts of towns . The biggest reason why the big 3 glynn, martins and shels grew to where they are now .
Where their numbers exploded over last 20years .
You choose your club carefully as it can be the biggest decision you make in your child's life .
It shouldn't be just because you want your child to be part of a successful club to the expense of his own personal development .
Again to enjoy is the best reason they stay playing . Do the research and make a calculated decision where your child will get to develop in every way on the field socially emotionally and physically . Underage success or adult for that matter won't guarantee enjoyment depending on what you want from your club. Just playing the games is succes in itself
Ha was nt expecting to write all that .

Replying To Timbertony:  "Fair enough on the first point but I'm not really sure how Tara Rocks realistically make inroads into the Gorey schools for example (3 x secondary now 5 or 6 primary schools) . That would require agreement with Naomh Eanna and good luck with that. The part of town near their pitch is expanding population wise and due to expand further at St Walerans. Maybe with them getting stronger with Kilanerin they will pull some more from Gorey, also has Kilanerin lads playing hurling at a higher level. So in the main I think it's a positive.

Shamrocks maybe have the same issue in Enniscorthy? Guess the county boards could try and define boundaries within the towns but surely would be impossible to enforce. But letting one club getting too strong in a town is a bad idea, look at Ballygunner in Waterford. Not sure how they do it in Kilkenny."
Waterford doesn't compare, a player from Dungarvan can play for Ballygunner if he wants no parish rule down there at all.

I thought that it was a stone wall yellow card. Cant grab a lad around the neck and wrestle him to the ground.

Made it to my first live game of the year Anne's v barntown. St Anne's just about doing enough in their games and haven't hit top form yet but there more than likely through now. Barntown battled hard and had their chances but could never draw level and showed a lack of compousure in front of goal although very tough conditions. Liam Rockford got a couple of nice scores and some of their bigger players like Dee o Keefe and Aidan Rockford seen them over the line. Johnny dog arty made a difference when introduced. Gallagher hurled well for Glynn but they'll need to pick up points soon

Anyone at the games last night. Saw the end of Ferns-Rapps on tele. Seemed very open. Even the last few minutes players were taking it at ease from the goalie and working it up for scores without any pressure. Not sure if full match was like that. Glynn-Barntown gave Anne's a good rattle. So they might survive yet. Finally why were the games in Monamolin and Tagoat. Thought unusual venues for senior hurling games.

Look at it again. Dee ducks under his arm and holds it there for a second, while also holding the arm that caught the ball. If it was a yellow Dee should've got one too.

Ferns 3rd win achieved without Dec Byrne, Tommy Dwyer, Rory Scallan and Corey Byrne-Dunbar. Corey injured playing U-20, but should be ok in a few weeks.
A similar pattern in all three games- a very good first 20 mins, faded, but had the composure to close out the games. James Lawlor's puckouts and Ian Byrnes frees are proving a huge advantage. Three clean sheets for Lawlor too.
Morris and Bailey are only finding fitness and will improve. The old guard all still making huge contributions, their service is unreal and while recognised, still underappreciated.
The Rapps and the Shels will both feel they can beat Ferns if they can start faster. Gorey, the Martins and the Annes won't fear them an inch.
But they have made a strong opening to the defence of their title, and like the Rapps last year, will have to be beaten the hard way.

Since Pat Bennett started managing Ferns, they've played 11 games in the Championship. Out of those 11 games, they've won 8, drawn 2, and lost 1. The one they lost was to Shels in the group stages last year when Ferns were already qualified. One of the two they drew was to the Martin's when both were already qualified in the group stages last year, the other was against the Rapps in the semi-final when they beat them after extra time.

He'd be my pick as the new Wexford manager

Regarding your comment on the Ferns old guard, I agree 100% that they are still making a huge contribution but I definitely worry for the future of Ferns Seniors when I see Pat Bennett subbing the same older guys back on instead of trusting the panel.

This year, I think there's nothing much between any of about 6 teams but one thing in Ferns' favour is their players seem to know the system inside out and have complete trust in the manager. In my opinion the back 7 including GK are as good as any in the county and any team with Paul Morris pulling the strings and Ian Byrne and Corey Byrne Dunbar in attack have plenty going for them.

Just a couple of points on the Tara Rocks hurling situation. Firstly, their success in Intermdiate is hardly unprecedented. In 2004, Ballyfad won the intermediate hurling. Seamus Highes played hurling for Wexford and Mattie and John Hegarty easily could have.
The unease around the link-up between Kilanerin and Tara Rocks centres around how it means anyone from Gorey could play for them under the parish rule. That in turn means Kilanerin could poach the Naomh Eanna lads who want to prioritise football. It hasn't happened so far, but a core principle around the purity of the parish could be broken.
Imagine St Joseph's or Clonard amalgamating with St Martins, Glynn-barntown or the Shels.
I'm not sure how many parishes there are in Wexford Town, but from a GAA perspective it appears to be a free-for-all.
At least in Enniscorthy there are two distinct parishes. If the Shamrocks were to amalgamate with Monageer, Oylegate, or Ferns, I'd imagine they wouold not be allowed bring any lads from west of the Slaney with them.
The question really is, how many Tara Rocks lads are on the underage teams? Is the club viable as a standalone into the future? And if not, do they and Kilanerin get the freedom of Gorey parish to pluck lads from? They have spent massively on facilities, and have a fine set-up.

And I know there's players who have left their parish, with Cathal Dunbar and Diarmuid Doyle two recent and notable examples where it has worked for Gorey, Ferns and the players, but what about the smaller clubs they left behind?
It's not simple

They have to review fixing the under-21 smack bang in the middle of the adult championships. Byrne-Dunbar and Twamley are just two injuries I know of from the first week alone. Why the rush? Player welfare my eye.

Ferns had a few injuries and wanted to protect their Junior team, I wouldn't read too much into their substitution decisions

If these games were fixed for November after the adult championships were done people would be giving out about that too.

Ferns seem to have 21 players their picking from, used the same 20 pretty much every game last year plus Gavin Bailey back fit this year, I'd split them in 3 age brackets, 6 of them 36 or older who owe their club nothing, 7 aged between 27-33 and 8 aged 20-24, the emergence of that younger cohort around 2018/19 has been vital as they seemed to be slipping back around 2015-17 ending up in the relegation final in 2017, they made a minor final in 2017 losing to the Martins by a point and 6 of that team are now regulars for the seniors.
