put down €55 at 4/11 you win €20
put down €55 at 2/5 you win €22

If the odds are longer you win more money.
So 2/5 is longer than 4/11.

It was Fredflint who said the odds were shorter at 2/5… ! I was just making the point that they were lengthening if only slightly… Anyway come on Cavan let's get the job done…!!!

Great win in Sligo and as I rightly predicted breaking our goal drought proved decisive…Sligo never recovered from the concession of the goal… 4/4 so far… Tipperary up next week

I'll get a proper update later or tomorrow, but just out of Markievicz there. Very very poor first half. Brutal. Against the wind, a very tight pitch both in length and width, and they sat back and crowded inside the 45. We looked clueless, and had a lot of changes to the team. No idea how to break them down. They broke quickly, picked off scores, and although I felt the ref was tough on us and easy on them (we weren't getting the frees he was giving them) they were well worth the 4 point lead at half time. Never saw us so bad recently.

Came out with intent after half time though. Got a GMac score straight away, and quickly started reeling them in. Their red card early 2nd half was so silly. But we kept at them, brought on strong replacements, and the scores started to come. And finally a goal! Even if it was a fluke. Left a few goal chances behind us too, with GMac taking a mark when we had a 3 on 1. Need to take those goal chances for confidence. Either way it was a far better 2nd half, and moments when we looked to be getting it together with some lovely scores from play. But still lots of work to do. That first half was just dire. 8 points and 4 from 4 though. On to next week where I think we can wrap up promotion with a win...

Some turning point in that match today.

62 minutes played Cavan 0-7 Sligo (with 14 men) 0-8. Then arrived OG off the back of the Sligo goalkeeper and it finished 1-13 to 0-10. What ifs for Sligo had they kept 15 on the field and didn't concede that goal in apparently a contest whereby Cavan created no goal chance.

Win is all that matters for Cavan though and thats promotion more or less secured now.

Well done to the lads yesterday, starting with a team missing up to 5/6 regulars meant Sligo were going to be in with a shot. The red card helped us for sure and the goal sligo fans are calling "lucky" (I say it was terrible play on their goalkeeper behalf as opposed to luck). But for me the big thing was we had a far superior bench to Sligo and a much better spread of scorers as Gunner and Faulkner had Sligos much vaunted Full Forward line under a tight leash.

I still think Sligo are good enough to win their last 3 games and get promoted too, I was impressed with how they did in midfield against us.

Had a bit of time to get my thoughts together on this. Was late getting across country to the game, and only came in when the ball was being thrown in. First thing was the amount of changes we made to the announced team. There were so many, that the Sligo programme sellers gave out another sheet with the changes to them. The team looked so unsettled early on, and we really didn't have any decent structure to us or know what we were doing. We were missing maybe 6 or 7 starters? That would affect any team, never mind us who seemingly have a core of 12 or so nailed on starters, and then I would say a drop off in quality to the others. Anyways, either way it was a very poor 1st half into the wind, with poor decision making, running into tackles, and not taking opportunities. Sligo for their part were very up for this, and with the very tight pitch, were able to go at us, sit back at times, push us down crowded alleys, and turn us over. They broke very well and got some nice scores. Although they missed a few too.

Was it just me or was the ref hard on us (bar the red and black card for them)? They should have had a black card in the first half for a foot trip, but got a yellow where we got a black for the same thing in the 2nd half. We had to work that bit harder for a free. Many times he gave for overcarrying when we were clearly fouled and being held on the ground, they seemed to get those ones a little bit easier, although I thought things levelled out a bit in the 2nd half.

Our discipline isn't great at time (James Smith plays on a edge a bit, he seems to get involved in a scuffle or handbags near every game) but Sligos was worse. They had the measure of us for the most part, and although we started to click in that 2nd half and put some scores together, it was helped by their silly red. It was a red all day long, was a punch to the ribs right in front of the linesman. Very silly. With our stronger lads like Gerry and Clarke coming off the bench, we just had too much for them and when we started getting forward they had little answer as they tired from their earlier exertions. The goal was lucky, but feel we were clicking at this stage anyway. Some lovely points from play using the wind. On one hand, it's worrying that we only played for 20 minutes, on the other, it only takes us 20 minutes of any half decent play to win a game here. What will we do when we put a 50/60 minute performance together? We finish every game strong so far (which goes back to 2020 Ulster run) which shows our conditioning is good and we can see teams off with fitness. That's good enough for Div 4, but need full performances for Ulster.

A word about Gunner Brady. Never saw a shoulder like that in my life, he sent your man flying and had to be taken off shortly after. What a hard man, and he actually pulled up a bit on it before connecting. But the man is so integral to us, his workrate, his turnovers, tackling, and generally being a menace in the backline gives us so much. And no yellow card yesterday! One of the first names on the teamsheet for me, he's that important to us.

On to Tipperary now, at home. They're now after putting some results together and could well frustrate us. Got 4 goals yesterday, but only 4 points. If our backs hold strong, no reason we can't see them off and pretty much wrap up promotion. But again, teams raise it for us, and hopefully if we get more lads back and start a strong team, we can put more than one half together.

An abysmal display in the first half that nearly cost us dearly. 62 minutes played Cavan 0-7 Sligo (with 14 men) 0-8, I have to say I was surprised by that. Felt we were a bit more in control at that time.

Would have to question team selection again, when are we going to cut our losses on Niall Murray? He's been a good servant but time to call it a day. Chris Conroy was completely beaten for pace on several occasions again and the same again the week before against Carlow. Surely there's better options out there?

62 mins with 6 mins injury time which probably should've been 10 for all the times sligo lads were lying down trying to kill our momentum in the 2nd half.

That's a fair point. When they got the red and then the black, they lay down for everything. Could have been far more than 6 mins at the end. They did exactly what any team in the lead after losing men should do, to kill the clock

In the first half Ray Galligan lost the plot with young Finnegan for not staying back. He roared over at the sideline at one stage I can't play with him anymore

I can't believe this either. I was down near that end of the field and didn't hear this. A senior player and captain would hardly shout this for all to hear, especially about a young player only a few starts into his career...

Don't know about this but I know one thing for sure he goes through a whole match roaring his head off… I know he is the captain and all that but is there a need for all that shouting at players non stop…

I heard him remonstrating with Finnegan to drop back but didn't hear that comment to the line. I agree, too much yapping out of him.

I THINK we are promoted if we beat Tipp and Sligo beat London this week based on head to head results???? Tipp won't be a push over, but if that did pan out, is there a case for giving 5 or 6 players a weekend off the next day, and a different 5 or 6 the following week. Particularly for the London trip. Fringe players get a descent run of game time, particularly need sub keeper on the pitch before championship. Go full tilt / strength for league final - time we won a league final for moral even if it's D4, and then on to Ulster.
