Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "I'm moving on from this. Ye both came out with the same stuff on the other thread, you're obsessed with this. I'm focussing on the now, and how we get ready for Championship. I'm not having the 2020 title being talked down. If you want to be super negative, then away with ye. I'll not engage on that anymore. We are where we are and that's what I'm looking at. At least I look realistically at things for the county we are. Over and out, unless it's about Sligo at the weekend"
You're right ! I wouldn't respond to the constant negative negative negative narratives from certain sources on here ? and move on, yep, it's all about the next game ! can we please discuss the Sligo match and future matches from here on in ?

Loughduff lad won't discuss the Sligo match…he has no interest in the league and said it's of no importance…. Real Cavan supporters treat every game as important as we are not at a level to pick and choose our choice of competitions… We should win in Sligo but they will be smarting from their shock defeat to Tipperary last time out… A win against Sligo will virtually rap up promotion in my view…!

for ever blue i feel sorry for you that you have not enjoyed our champioship runs and ulster finals in the past few years and our great victory in 2020 which was the best performance ever given by a cavan team where every player from 1 to 15 played out of their skin to beat a great Donegal team and a bent referee. They are part of a golden generation of Cavan players who won minor and under 21 titles and lifted the holy grail the Anglo Celt cup.
Dont worry some one like you and a few others who like moaning all the time about Cavan will soon have loads to cry about as when this generation of players retire in 2 to 3 years the future is very bleak any ye will have loads to bleat about and ye will look back on the past 5 years with a differant view. I am happy with what Mickey and the boys achieved over the past few years

I totally enjoyed our Ulster campaigns in 2019/20 ( maybe not the 2019 Final ) but I am not silly enough to dwell on such things… Your use of the word "great" to describe that Donegal team just shows what a limited knowledge of the game you really have…, and your word to describe the referee in 2020 only highlights your ignorance…. Your so called golden age of Cavan footballers have delivered us to our lowest depths in our football history.. but time is just about on their side to rectify things over the next 2/3 years…. Will they do it..? Time will tell and winning in Sligo Sunday will help… A league title win and a performance against Donegal/Armagh is the very least that should be expected of this team… Any defeat before that would be unexpected…!

"A performance against Donegal/Armagh", surely a win v Antrim cannot be taken for granted by anyone that knows anything.Make no mistake,Antrim are going to give us our fill of it.Any complacency here will signal the end for some of our older players as well as management.Funny though,if we get over Antrim,on any given day we will be an extremely dangerous underdog v Donegal/Armagh.

People should not be taking Antrim for granted they are in Division 3 where you learn more than in 4.

The are currently in 2nd place and if we are travelling to a venue that holds around 2,000 I would think they might have the majority of support.

We haven't scored a goal yet indeed Carlow got 1 against us and were denied a penalty and fluffed a few clear cut chances.

Oh I agree we can't take any team for granted especially this group of players…. Look what happened v Wicklow last year.. I was merely saying what would be expected… A defeat to Antrim would be disappointing.. Last week v Carlow was a prime example again of us keeping teams in a game because of our inability to score goals… Carlow got one and as you say could have had another couple and at times looked just as good as Cavan.. We didn't put enough direct ball into McKiernan as he clearly had the beating of his smaller opponent all the time… Far too much passing the ball around for passings sake… A poor Wicklow team downed us last year because they got 2/3 goals and we couldn't get any… It is a huge problem with this team…

A championship match will not be at a venue that small. It'll go elsewhere... Last time Antrim had a home Championship match without Casement, they played the Athletic Grounds in Armagh.

And no we won't take Antrim for granted, but we are a better team. Bookies have us as far shorter odds for Ulster, and we're consistently ranked above Antrim. We need to work hard, but we'll be rightly favourites there. Again, leagues are not the be all and end all here

Thoughts for Sunday then? Heard on the podcast that Jason McLoughlin and Killian Clarke were touch and go for the Carlow game with slight injury concerns and were sat out, so would imagine they'll be fine for Sligo with another week in front of them. They will be needed as this looks like the clash of the top 2. Likes of Finnegan did very well coming in, but while the Carlow game was one to try a few things, we need to be right for Sligo with them coming off the back off a loss and they'll be gunning for this. We'll be out 5 weeks in a row now, so need to pick our battles. This will be one of them, and we'll be missing Galligan. The likes of the last game against Waterford with promotion sown up can be a game to try more young players and different tactics and such. See out these next few games and we'll be fine

Have to agree with most of your post, i said before the league started that we need to be showing no mercy to these teams we lack that killer instinct we seem to go seven or eight points in front and then go to sleep and let opponents back in the game we need to bury them because they would do it to us Mickey said Cavan have a target on their back to me that's a compliment if so go out and show the opposition no mercy we're not clinical enough and it's only a matter of time until we're caught out goals demoralise teams. They say take your points and the goals will come ,not in our case and it will cost us. Up Cavan.

Have you missed the part where I've discussed all the league games in detail, and that I said I go to all games (including going to London in a few weeks)? I've huge interest in the league and all Cavan matches so I can see our players and what we're trying, I'm just realistic on where it stands in regards to Championship. I'm not as obsessed with Championship as you are. That's a different beast altogether. I know you're trying to get a rise, it's quite pathetic to be honest.

100% agreed - if we win on Sunday we're as good as up with all due respect to London and Waterford ! ! Carabine, Niall Murphy & Pat Hughes will take watching, I should know I live in Sligo, wrap them up and you're winning this game.

An interesting point was made on the wearecavan podcast. Derry are on the verge of going to Div 1, 2 seasons ago they were in Div 4. They won all their games by an average of 5 points. They beat Leitrim in the league final by 4 points. Cavan have won their games so far by 4, Wexford by 6 and Carlow by 4, so damn close to 5 point average.

If we swapped Cavan for Derry 2 yrs ago a few of our "supporters" on here had their way the manager would have been sacked half way through the Div 4 campaign. Maybe these Div 4 teams are a little better than we give them credit for and maybe Cavan are mentally taking the foot of the pedal knowing the games are coming thick and fast.

I expect a really focused team effort from the lads on Sunday as if we can beat Sligo we are pretty much home and hosed in this league and hopefully we never see Div 4 again.

Couldn't agree more. 100% everything you say there. And I heard that stat as well. And to add to it, Derry had an average score of 0-18 per game, and just over 0-13 against per game. we're very close to this right now. And mentally teams always do turn off a little when well ahead. It happens. Killing yourself for 70+ minutes in a thrashing is a bit pointless

I'm a bit bored at work, so decided to crunch some number, by comparing our season (so far) to the Derry one in 2019 where they went 7/7. Couple of very interesting things to note. Derrys score total was 129 with 95 against. Gives them an average of 18.43 for and 13.57 against over 7 games. So far so good. If we look at Cavan over 3 games, we've a total of 48 for and 34 against, giving an average of 16 for and 11.33 against. So far so similar, they've scored a few more, but conceded a few more, but the gap is pretty much the same.

However, it's clear that you need to take time of year into it as initial league games are generally in worse conditions than the last few. So for that reason, I looked just at Derrys first 3 results to compare with Cavans 3, and it's actually very telling. Derry now have 50 for and 35 against. Average of 16.67 for and 11.67 against. It's practically the same as Cavan's first 3, bar a point here or there. And they scored 3 goals in the first 3 games. We're bad here (as we all know), but this means we've had more converted scoring chances than Derry. They scored 44 times to our 48.

What's even more telling is that Derry won their first match by a point, and only started to motor by middle of the league once it got to better weather. They pump their average way up by scoring 2-16 and 3-21 in their final 2 games. Otherwise their first 5 games they won by 1, 7, 7, 5, 5 before they went on to post big scores. and even then in those big scoring games, they conceded a lot.

So my point is, relax a bit (except for scoring goals). Even comparing with the only other division clean sweep, we're very much on target. It's all about getting through the first few games when you get used to what seems to be a bit of a different game at times, dealing with being a favourite with teams targeting you and sitting back, and dealing with usually poor weather conditions. We've a ways to go, but thought this was interesting.

Not trying to get a rise out of you at all… You are the one who has said it doesn't matter if we are in Division 3/4 when it comes to the Championship… Well I say it does matter….. If and when we come up against one of the big boys later in the year playing 7/8 games in the depths of Division 4 won't be of much benefit to us…. It is played at a totally different speed and intensity… There is a difference of night and day between a Division 1 game and one in 3/4….

Will you have a day off. Everything has to be adversarial with you. You are right in some ways but calm down. There seems to be a constant theme of sniping and jumping on other people's opinions. Relax a bit. Enjoy the forum.

Very good research there.

I'd add to that by saying that Derry didn't have the bullseye of a recent ulster win on their chest either. Teams are bringing their A game to us so far.
