Replying To evano11:  "In the first half Ray Galligan lost the plot with young Finnegan for not staying back. He roared over at the sideline at one stage I can't play with him anymore"
What he shouted to the line was "im not going to shout at that fella all day" he then went out to Finnegan and asked him to listen to him.

Replying To Calving4Sam:  "I THINK we are promoted if we beat Tipp and Sligo beat London this week based on head to head results???? Tipp won't be a push over, but if that did pan out, is there a case for giving 5 or 6 players a weekend off the next day, and a different 5 or 6 the following week. Particularly for the London trip. Fringe players get a descent run of game time, particularly need sub keeper on the pitch before championship. Go full tilt / strength for league final - time we won a league final for moral even if it's D4, and then on to Ulster."
I think so. There may be a possibility that London, and Sligo or Leitrim (depending on their last game result) get to 10 points too. That would be us losing our last 2 games which I can't see. No head to head in that case, it'll go to score difference. But looking at the results, that would need London to win their last 2 games (including against us) and one of Sligo or Leitrim to win all theirs. Can't see all this happening, so likely 10 will be enough. We should still be aiming for 14 though...

Yes you're right there.
Tipp will be by no means a pushover so it's important to go full strength there. But what is full strength is the question? And if we do beat Tipp and then have a free run at London and Waterford, what fringe players get an opportunity? I really think we're missing a big opportunity to try and test new blood as Mickey is afraid to lose a game in Div 4.

They won't be, but they're flaky enough. They're missing a few players from their provincial win, and their players coming in are really not as good. They're on 5 points, with a loss to Leitrim, a draw to Waterford, and got past Wexford by scoring 4 goals. 4 points over 70 minutes is poor, I can't see them scoring a lot of goals against us, as our backs are strong. And exactly, what is full strength? Do they start with a team like against Sligo, and bring regulars off the bench? We were poor for so long, but still had enough when needed. I think we might target this game, and go with strength to get the win. The Waterford game will hopefully mean nothing (outside of those wanting 14 points) so this may be a game to rest a few and start some squad players to see where they are. I'd still expect a win there though...

Something I've noticed too. Haven't we played against the wind in the 1st half in each of the 4 games in the league so far? Interesting if so, and surely we've won some of these tosses. We must be backing ourselves to play against the wind, and have the fitness and ability to see things off in the 2nd half when they tire. Does mean that the scoreboard looks a bit tighter, but gives us a workout too. Be interesting to see how we do with the wind some first half if we get it. That might be game we blow a side away, as we could open up a big lead and demoralise them.

There isn't much hope for us in the championship if we are going to be afraid to make a few changes against a poor Tipp team.

Just go out and win the remaining games including the Final… it's the least that should be expected…any thing less will not auger well going forward… As for the Championship it's hard to see much hope there..
maybe a first round win v Antrim but couldn't see us progressing after that…. Division 4 teams have no great record when it comes to Championship football…

Teams are setting up to spoil us and keep things stop/start for as long as possible to keep the scoreboard tight.

So it makes perfect sense to let them do that with the wind at their backs.

Better to play with the wind when things start to open up late on.

Yeah that's my point, we seem to be choosing it. And it makes sense, as we can let them tire out, and start to knock over scores in the 2nd half when we have the wind. We have the strength and ability to deal with the opposition with the wind, and then cruise past. means we won't get thrashings maybe, but leaves us good for the win, and a workout too

Just going back to the Sligo game, does anyone know who the Cavan player was that was involved in the Sligo red card incident ? who did David Quinn lash out at ?

I hadn't been to a game since the McKenna cup, but I went to Sligo, and what a beautiful county it is. I thought the first half was a good lesson. If you play too conservatively without a purpose, you will get punished. Sligo's biggest regret will be that they didn't put us to the sword in that first half. If we try to play that type of aimless conservative possession game in two months time, Antrim will take us out.

Gearoid McKiernan head and shoulders above anyone. What a brilliant player he is. Dissapointed not to see Conor Madden. If ever there was a player to benefit from this div 4 stuff he was the man to get a few back to back 70 mins into. I thought Micheal Argue did quite well first half. He certainly has something different to offer. Would be good to see him get a couple of scores and give him that bit of confidence.

Not hard to look impressive against Division 4 opposition… while McKiernan occasionally turns up against better opponents we have seen enough of Argue over the years to suggest he won't do much when we are up against a half decent side… This is the problem with been lumbered with Division 4 football… seriously average players will look good but when up against the big boys in the Championship they will be found out big time…

Just been realistic…. It's the real sign of someone in denial when they think every comment that doesn't mirror their own view is or has to be negative… Then again it could mean you haven't a clue about the game at all…If the players mentioned are as great as some people on here thinks why are we playing in the depths of Division 4…. Think about it for a few minutes

Nothing bitter about it…. No doubt he is targeted by the opposition when we play the stronger teams and they invariably have someone who will keep him quiet…. Teams in the 4th division would not have that type of player so he is more likely to shine… When the fat is in the fire against one of the bigger teams we will see where he stands… He is by far and away our best player at present but anyone with an ounce of sense would have to take the level of opposition into account… Nothing bitter or negative about my comment just been realistic….!!!
