So starting a new thread, as don't see anything up for it yet. Place to discuss and chat about the Senior team, as we go into the League and then on to Championship. Hope we can keep it to one thread as sometimes too many threads are created for different games or such. What's everyone's thoughts and wishes for the year ahead? Anyway I'll start off. I think we had a decent McKenna Cup campaign. Pity we didn't get another game out of it to lead us into the Leitrim game. Lots of lads back and looking fit, and add in some of our longer term absences over the next few months, and we can be in a good place. Need to keep this going, and not stop stepping up and pushing through the season. My minimum expectations are: 1. Promotion from Div 4. Simply put, we should not be there. Get straight out and pretend we were never there. A good run, trying a few things, blooding players and such can be done as required. What we do not need to do is let ourselves get dragged down into battles. Our players are better than most in this Division, so play our game, let them change for our system not us for them, and just simply get out of there. 2. Ulster semi, although I feel that a final is in reach. We should be beating Antrim, and then anything goes, By that point you'd hope to have a promotion campaign and a Championship win under your belt. I really do think Donegal or Armagh are tough but not unbeatable and no reason we shouldn't be able to target them. A final is bonus territory as you avoid the Tailteann Cup. 3. If we get into the Qualifiers on the back of a final appearance, then start with winning a Qualifier game and then you're in bonus territory from there if you can get a run going. If it's Tailteann Cup on going out at Ulster QF or SF, then who knows. We should be capable of winning it, but hard to know if we'll take it seriously. The competition could do with a team like Cavan winning it and bringing a crowd to give the competition some conviction. If we do get into it, I hope we try win it as you're then exempt from it the next year. It's only a handful of straight knockout games and he prize is worth it. Anyway, just my thoughts. I think Cavan can't really look past Leitrim, obvious;y good to have goals ,but Cavan have had a lot of false dawns before. Cavan are the favourites for Division 4 ,so it's about how they handle the favourites tag. Leitrim will be looking to cause an upset in Carrick. Tipperary without Quinlivan this year which won't help their chances. Wexford were competitive in the O Byrne Cup. Sligo boosted by Pat Spillane transferring. They have some very good inside forwards Niall Murphy and Hughes. Carlow will be dogged. In the Championship, Cavan generally struggle with Antrim. Getting promoted by winning Division 4 along with a win over Antrim should be the minimum expected from this season…. All good points I agree we just have to get promoted this season nothing less is acceptable we must play every match like it was championship if we do I think we should get promoted no problem get stuck in from the start and be clinical when goal chances arrive. It's the first one out, it's away, and against a neighbour we rarely get to play, and they've got a good team and will get a bounce with a new high profile manager. Despite this, I think we're in a better place than usual and expect we'll get the win, and while it might be tight most of the way, we'll nudge enough ahead by the end. What's everyone thoughts? I'm actually hearing that GMac may be missing due to a suspension from Tyrone in championship last year. Anyone know anything about this? That changes things as he makes us tick. We'll need an experienced head in the half forwards. James Smith and Galligan are fine for midfield, but it's a huge loss as that link in the half forwards, and also as our left footed free taking option. As you put, he's irreplaceable for us, but maybe like a Niall Murray (if fit), or Oisin Kiernan can step up and just keep things cool there.
