So starting a new thread, as don't see anything up for it yet. Place to discuss and chat about the Senior team, as we go into the League and then on to Championship. Hope we can keep it to one thread as sometimes too many threads are created for different games or such. What's everyone's thoughts and wishes for the year ahead? Anyway I'll start off. I think we had a decent McKenna Cup campaign. Pity we didn't get another game out of it to lead us into the Leitrim game. Lots of lads back and looking fit, and add in some of our longer term absences over the next few months, and we can be in a good place. Need to keep this going, and not stop stepping up and pushing through the season. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 19/01/2022 15:20:49 2395624 Link 0 |

I think Cavan can't really look past Leitrim, obvious;y good to have goals ,but Cavan have had a lot of false dawns before. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 19/01/2022 19:38:24 2395662 Link 0 |

Getting promoted by winning Division 4 along with a win over Antrim should be the minimum expected from this season…. No point in pretending we were never in Division 4…that's just silly… We are where we are because of bottling it v Wicklow in a game that would have kept us up… Let's start strong v Leitrim ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4243 - 20/01/2022 07:54:19 2395680 Link 0 |

100% agree with all points. I suppose I'd add lifting the Division 4 cup itself. Not a must by any means, but we've lost enough league finals over the years. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 20/01/2022 09:35:42 2395686 Link 1 |

All good points I agree we just have to get promoted this season nothing less is acceptable we must play every match like it was championship if we do I think we should get promoted no problem get stuck in from the start and be clinical when goal chances arrive. Up Cavan

Big week coming up against Leitrim. Probably our hardest game in this division. It's the first one out, it's away, and against a neighbour we rarely get to play, and they've got a good team and will get a bounce with a new high profile manager. Despite this, I think we're in a better place than usual and expect we'll get the win, and while it might be tight most of the way, we'll nudge enough ahead by the end. What's everyone thoughts? I think it's going to be very tight when you consider we will be missing a few very important players, I would be happy to get out with a 1 point win, Leitrim are not a bad team and have been unfortunate in some of their games like us in the last few leagues.

I'm actually hearing that GMac may be missing due to a suspension from Tyrone in championship last year. Anyone know anything about this? That changes things as he makes us tick. Still think we'll have enough overall, but it'll be a tough match.

McKiernan is a huge loss, if that's true. simply put he's irreplaceable on that team ........................ Who's going to step up now and fill his shoes ? ? 5allirelands (Cavan) - Posts: 90 - 26/01/2022 13:16:33 2396542 Link 0 |

We'll need an experienced head in the half forwards. James Smith and Galligan are fine for midfield, but it's a huge loss as that link in the half forwards, and also as our left footed free taking option. As you put, he's irreplaceable for us, but maybe like a Niall Murray (if fit), or Oisin Kiernan can step up and just keep things cool there. They'll not be able to do what he does, but have experience

Huge hole at 11 now, could Chris Conroy slot in there, with Killian at 6 ? ? what about Conor Moynagh at 11 ? ? would that be a stretch ? ? there's no obvious replacement now, Gearóid was slotting in lovely at 11, was at home there ! !

Yeah I don't think it's going to be streamed, unless Leitrim or Cavan do it themselves. Looks like we're back to the old way of going to the match or listening on radio Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 27/01/2022 11:28:02 2396685 Link 0 |
