Good to get the win, pretty flat game to watch, it was just a matter of going through the motions, Great that cavan can put teams away were as other years we would struggle to best them. I don't think croke park is the best venue for the semi finals not the same atmosphere with a small attendances. goonie (Cavan) - Posts: 308 - 05/06/2022 20:01:36 2422571 Link 0 |
We got Sligo. Which I think we expected. The easier of the 3 I think, but a semi in Croker, need to be plugged in. Looking forward to the trip on the 19th already! Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2360 - 06/06/2022 08:36:34 2422635 Link 0 |
So Sligo in the semifinals…. Happy with that. A good bit to work on from yesterday but we should be winning this if we approach it in the right manner… Great to see Cavan ( and the other counties ) showing this competition the respect it deserves.. This will be a watershed season for the future of Gaelic football.. ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 1820 - 06/06/2022 09:54:26 2422673 Link 0 |
i hope Cavan go on and win it but it is a pity we messed up and ended in division 3 and 4 as i think we would tighten anyone left in the sam maguire quarter final. The Tailteann cup would also be a much better competition if Cavan were not in it. Fermanagh would not have got hammered yesterday and it would have been a toss up between the 4 teams left over who would win it. This is exactly what this new competition needed on its first year to attract lots of attention and have good competitive matches and it would have put all the snobs back in their boxes and maybe we could have had a three tier competition next year ie senior intermediate and junior. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 435 - 06/06/2022 11:53:22 2422726 Link 0 |
You can only play in the competition you qualify or put yourself in… We have it all to do to win it yet… While winning this year's Taltainn cup gives us a free pass into next year's Sam Maguire I would far rather get there by gaining promotion out of Division 3… You can't make any impact on the Championship while operating out of Divisions 3/4 even though some can't see the difference…… It would be still great to win the first of what in my opinion is going to be a very successful competition in years to come…

I think the GAA missed a trick here. If the qualifiers were whittled down to 2 instead of 4 , those 2 places could have been taken by the Tailteann 1st and 2nd . Similarly to the Joe McDonagh 1st and 2nd getting a shot at the Big one this year not next year. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 06/06/2022 12:12:49 2422735 Link 0 |
Agreed. Getting to the semi finals of the secondary competition doesn't merit a day in Croke Park. The final maybe, but not the semi final.

hmm, sounds good but obviously the tailtean would be a much easier route. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 07/06/2022 08:34:32 2422820 Link 0 |
omg. will you just listen to yourself.. so we are too good for this competition, we are a cut above the rest, they can't compete with us. Let me tell you any of the teams left will be thinking they can win this and rightly so.

The only team that can beat Cavan in the Tailteann cup are Cavan themselves unless we under perform or get a few black cards which we are quite good at or get a referee like Barry Cassidy going on our performances since the league ended we should win it. I am not at all saying we are above playing in this competition as going on league performance i would have been quite happy with us winning a junior all ireland championship in Croke park if one existed. I feel the Tailteann cup has been a brilliant success so far and has showed the doubters that when teams of similar standards play each other you get far better football with less negetavity and defensive play. Its brilliant for Cavan to be going well in it and have a great chance of winning it but it would be a much more level playing field if we had played to our true potential over the past few years as at the moment we can compete well with anyone in division 2.

Fermanagh were next favourites after Cavan before we played them breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 435 - 07/06/2022 10:43:00 2422891 Link 0 |
Agreed , but rewarding the 2 finalist this year rather than just rewarding the winners next year would create much more interest.

Will much Cavan fans travel or just take it as a given that ye will win and wait to go to the final. Few posters are extremely confident and I get that because you are favourites but will that stop people from travelling? Sligobuck21 (Sligo) - Posts: 114 - 07/06/2022 15:09:14 2423079 Link 0 |
I wouldn't thought they were. Westmeath and Offaly have better footballers then Fermanagh and Sligo have better forwards. Probaly the best teams in the Semis FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2752 - 07/06/2022 17:00:03 2423145 Link 0 |
Absolutely no offence meant to Sligo but I do expect us to win this. I will be there. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4982 - 07/06/2022 17:14:13 2423152 Link 0 |
I don't think I ever say a goal scored at county level like Thomas Galligans in the first few seconds on Sunday…. It reminded me of something you would see at U-14 level where a big lad would catch the throw in and solo the whole way through and score….amazing it was allowed to happen at County level…. Galligan is improving with every game this season but the Jones guy I think it was should have seen red for his challenge on him ….. Oddly the RTE factor will likely affect attendance. Was given as a selling point for the competition, but with this it'll be easy to watch on TV, save on fuel and the costs of a day out, and maybe wait for a day out for a final instead if we win. My family and I will be there though. I'll never pass up a trip to Croker. Every county has the fair weather fans, and they might just stay put for this one

I think there will be a crowd. Most of the lads here (bar one) go to the games every week. Cavan are motoring well (and way ahead of how we played in the league game early in the year) and if they play to their potential it will be difficult to see how Sligo could win it - unless of course Sligo bring something we havent seen from them so far. Hopefully it will be a good game and and enjoyable day out. I do fear though a good crowd of 20k will seem like no atmosphere in Croke Park.
