Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "You really can't be comparing us to Dublin, are you serious here? I clearly say above that we don't have the squad to be able to go full bore, and if we have a choice, I'd rather use League to develop, and Championship to be ready for. You can't come in here with the best team of all time and say, well if they can do it..."
I'm not saying that we are Dublin, but it's fairly clear that keeping a consistent level of performance is very possible. Teams that are competing for titles regularly are in division 1 and two and it's not often you see them in division 4. I'm not asking us to win division 1, I'm asking for a team that's not in division 4. We are a footballing county. If we have any hope of competing we need to be in division 2 at least. I agree the league is for developing players, but do you really think that's there's such a drop off from the best 15 to the rest of the squad that it's acceptable to be in division 4. None of the lads in there are bad footballers, and they are all putting serious effort in. Something's not right.
Also I don't think the Cavan team have been that far from full strength in any of the league matches this year. It's not like we have 15 lads out there that have never played for the county before.
If you want to improve you have to keep certain standards not just except poor performances because it's the league.

He literally said it in his first paragraph, he said Dublin can do it.

You were clearly implying that a hammering against them is acceptable because they went on and won the All Ireland. Otherwise why would you ask ?"
I never said it was acceptable. It's in context though. So stop trying to pretend I'm sating something when I'm not. You even put a quote in quotation marks above. Stop being a clown here. Nowhere did I say it was acceptable or imply.

You're asking for a team that's not division 4.

You must be delighted we're on the brink of promotion so?

We are missing our best half back in Ciaran Brady, and our most experienced player too in Martin Reilly. So there's scope for strengthening in terms of personnel, not to mention the improvement that comes with Mickey's teams when you move from league to championship (the only exception being the Tyrone game last year when we were injury ravaged).

Can't see how this team is suddenly going to change from struggling to beat mediocre Division 4 teams to suddenly be competitive in the Championship in a few weeks time… No County team in recent years have ever done that so it's a bit naive to think this group of players will buck the trend…. We will be expected to beat Antrim but after that I wouldn't hold out much hope….

You're right.

Very few teams are able to put poor league campaigns behind them and turn up for championship an immeasurably improved side.

But Cavan have done so twice in 3 years under Mickey Graham.

I wouldn't be too sure about beating Antrim up there.
They only lost 2 out of 6 in Div3.
Would we have done any better in Div3?
Bookies have us at 2/5. It's an even money game I'd say.

Bookies are rarely wrong, that price is about right. Again, too much stock being put in the League here. If we play anywhere close to where we can, we should beat them.

Here's something interesting by the way. See the link here. It's a football ranking system based on the ELO system used for soccer international rankings. This fella has updated every match in the last 14 seasons, with more weight towards recent results. Interestingly Cavan are ranked 14th in the country (were 13th up to the Tipp defeat) while Antrim are 24th. You have to be realistic on what results recently mean, and even accounting for our poor League, we're a good Championship team, and on ranking we're not far outside the Top 10. That's clearly more realistic than just saying we're Division 4 so we're rubbish. We know it's more nuanced than that. That's always what I've been trying to say here. And yes I know rankings are subjective, it's just interesting and give a little perspective.

They are a better team than anyone else we have played this year.

Yes the league is for trying out players but the championship can and might be only 1 game.
I'd expect the line out in the next 2 games to be as close as possible to the championship team.
After 6 games Mickey should now know at least 13 of his starting 15.
Against London our full back line struggled at times
We also found it difficult to break them down inside their half in the 2nd half.
Now London are very average. Yes they are better than they were a few years ago. The amount of possession we had wasn't reflected on the score board. And that's where it matters most.
Stats to me only count on the scoreboard.

Do agree with bulk of what you say. Now it'll be a matter of getting those nailed on starters ready for the League final (unlikely to be Saturday), so they can then go straight to the Ulster game 2 weeks after. We're still missing a few, and some like Thomas Galligan were carrying slight injuries. Now's the time to start ramping up. I'd be perfectly fine with average performances before this if we start peaking at the right time in the next month. And yes, our backline needs to buck up a bit. That's 2 games in a row they've been poor.

You can spin it any way you like but as the saying goes tables and results don't lie…. We are playing Division 4 football for a reason …. the reason been we are not very good… teams don't go out to win games and any management team worth their salt want to play at the highest possible level and the same with players… Dressing it up with silly rankings doesn't change the fact that we are in Division 4 no matter what spin you put on it… time to accept it for what it is … you are in denial.. As the saying goes " Mountjoy is full of innocent men" ( in their own minds)

We are Div 4 and the only half decent team was Tipperary and we failed to beat them so it's very difficult to judge where we are.
Tipp have improved since the league started. Could we say the same about us? We need a league final win against Tipp to prove to ourselves that we are improving.

We definitely need a settled side the next 2 games . Let players play and express themselves . A seriously improved performance is needed and if we get that then we should win both games.
That would be a good lead up to the Antrim game. That's why the league last 2 games is important .

I said it was interesting is all. What is also interesting is you're like a pit bull with a toy in it's mouth about it and went on a rant. Feel free to ignore it, all I said it was interesting and gave some perspective on all games in the country and how they rank. Your reply says more about you. But no surprise Mr. Negative

Bad use of words on my part.
Consistently competitive would probably be better.

Mr Realistic…… you are definitely Mr Deluded Even if we loose to Antrim (which I don't expect) you will still try to put some deluded positive spin on it….. It takes time but reality will hit you at some point…!!!!

You can apply that to pretty much every county that is consistently competing competitively for provincial titles and all Ireland's. Take division one, when have Kerry, Mayo, Kildare, Donegal Tyrone, Dublin or Monaghan last been in division 4. You can apply the same to division 2 with a few exceptions.

All these teams have been reasonably competitive every year for the past 10 come championship.

I just want to see Cavan football improving and maintaining a certain standard. Meaningful improvement won't come from playing and scraping past division 4 teams.
I think we have a good group of players at the moment, much better in my opinion than in years past.

I'm hoping performances improve come the championship. Scrapping by some of the worst teams in the country doesn't inspire confidence that we will be very competitive against some of the best teams in the country in the Ulster championship.

Losing by 16 points in a championship game is an immeasurable improvement?

Very very strange "supporters" on here.

Sorry I meant to say obviously that teams don't go out to 'loose' games but I'd say you knew that…. I'd like to believe your reasoning for saying we are nearer to the top 10 than an actual Division 4 team… Anyway a Division 4 Final awaits ( baring a calamitous set of results) and hopefully we can win it … In doing so it would l believe be our first National title at senior level since 1952…. We won Div 3 in McHughes first season in charge but there was no actual Final played….
