Again you rant. You're after inventing an argument I didn't make. I simply shared something interesting. Again, feel free to ignore it. And you don't have to rant on every single thing I post, and then get angry about it.

You see again you miss the point. I've literally shared something on the thread that is interesting, and gives some perspective to our results over the last few years in comparison to other counties, not just the League. Like it's there to see. However it just winds you up as it does show overall that we are better than Division 4. As we are. Our Championship results are decent. But that must annoy you as you seem to take a perverse love of the League and base our whole being against it when we're more than just a League team. Now I'm as critical of Cavan as the next man, but I take an overall perspective, and see the League for what it is. I'm annoyed with recent League results too, but I'm OK with doing poor in it if it's used to get good Championship. I expect we'll beat Antrim. And give the semi a good rattle. Go back and look at what I said at the top of page 1 on this thread. It's our aim. Promotion and a good semi final result. But do me a favour, will you stop obsessing over the League. Yes we must get better in it, but it's always Championship. Now that's my last reply to you on it. I'll debate games with you, no bother. But stop feigning outrage and ranting when I share something, obsessing about our League position, and bringing back in arguments we've had many times before, and which I didn't mention in that post. You've been having the same argument since last year. Change the record. Over and out. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 24/03/2022 18:06:48 2406921 Link 0 |

The League is more important than you realise. Tell me the last time a Div3 or Div 4 team got to a provincial final in any Province. It's not always about the Championship. It's about consistency . We won an Ulster a few years ago and ended up in Div 4 through not being consistent. We need to be regularly playing in Div 1/2 to improve or standard on the long term. That has to be the main goal over the next few years. TheChampionship can be an added bonus but climbing the leagues has to be priority. Yeah I think All County league games are outside of the county players window. They wouldn't be expected to be available for those game and the clubs know they'll be without. Might just be a case that they move some games so people can go to the final.

16 months ago, Tipperary won got to the Munster final and won it. They had been playing Division 3 that year and finished 5th in the table. Ludicrously, Tipperary fans considered it a good year for their footballers. Christ above! Imagine that!! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 25/03/2022 11:22:28 2406994 Link 0 |

Nowhere have I said it is pointless or anything, it absolutely has its uses. And I again repeat I am as disappointed as the next man with our League results over the last 4 seasons. Of course I'd love if we'd be up and about Division 1 and 2 yearly. I have always said this. Was just pointing out our results differ in both, and shared an interesting ranking system that tells you there's more than meets the eye. And it does change now. League is now more linked to Championship from next season, so it is important that we get up and now start using it. All I was pointing out was we were clearly not targeting the league but the Championship in prior years. Graham literally said this. And the results of that was clear to see. So I was fine with it. But that does need to change now. And it is always about Championship. It always is, Leagues are for playing, Championships are for winning. The Championship can be an added bonus? Are you actually serious here? It's the only thing... Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 25/03/2022 11:22:44 2406995 Link 0 |

To be fair, the reason people take issue with your posts is because you are blinkered, or as another poster mentioned, deluded. For example, in the above post you said "our championship results are decent". They are not exactly decent. They are not woeful either. They are somwhere in between. There was an 8 point hiding against Tyrone when we were defending our only Ulster title in 20 something years. There was a 16 point thrashing against Tyrone in the 2019 championship qualifiers. There was 15 point defeat to Dublin in an All Ireland semi final (although they do that to most teams so I wouldn't be too criticial there). Ulster final 2019 performance was poor. There were also some good results, beating Monaghan twice, Armagh, Donegal obviously. So there have been good and bad results, the problem is that you totally ignore the results that don't suit your agenda. It's a mixed bag. I am not deluded. I have routinely pointed out our results, and while I have said Championship is better, I have never acted as if they are perfect. I have been critical of the team here many many times. But I have also supported the team through the 00s, through bad times, and can see when we've had better Championship results. Of course we've been bad in games, especially some of those qualifiers. But we've had many more good Championship days in the last 3 years than bad days. That's not delusion, that's fact. It's there to see. All I've ever done is point that out, and try and get some analysis and perspective on that. And I'm not as obsessed with league as you or the other fella (although I absolutely would like us to do better in it). Like your own post there shows us more wins than bad. And it's mainly you and your man who take such issue with my posts and rant and rave at them. You also can feel free to ignore them. I try to be realistic and give an honest view of what I see in front of me, not just seeing the absolute worst in everything. And many more than you 2 have replied back engaging with my posts in a positive way. So maybe is it you who is wrong? We've brought facts to this may times, and yet all you can cry about is Division 4 as it's is our very being when it's not. It's more than that Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 25/03/2022 12:23:21 2407012 Link 0 |

And by the way Cavan_Shambles, I've never ignored any results. I give a balanced view and I'm quite capable of pointing out when we do. I'm also capable of moving on which you seem unable to. I've been on this board for a very long time, and my posts will show when I'm critical as well as balanced. You fail to see that. And I'll not take any more from you or the other lad who are consistently negative on everything, and who couldn't even enjoy our Ulster win and called it a fluke. You're the problem here, so ignore my posts if you feel so strongly. Lord know I'll be ignoring you and he unless you engage in actual constructive debate on matches and such. Yes the Championship is an added bonus until we start playing regular football in Div 1/2 . And what I mean by regular is not up and down like a yo-yo . Look at Donegal, Tyrone, Monaghan. They are consistently in Div 1/2. They are contesting Ulster finals/ all Ireland quarters and Semis all because they are playing at a higher standard of football regularly. Yes we can catch them the odd time but what's the point in an odd Ulster Final appearance if we going to slide down the Divisions like we have? If it goes tits up against Antrim where to next? We are not contenders for Ulster so anything we get is a bonus. But we can be contenders in a few years time starting with a few promotions on the trot. That has to be the number 1 priority. I think you got it all mixed up buddy. It's all about Championship. Off the top of your head, can you name who won the League 20 years ago, or who won Ulster and the All Ireland? Yeah, though so. League is grand and all, but it's Championship. But like I said, this is now changing with them being linked from next season. But it was the case up to now

Excellent post….. of course we have to get up the division's to have the slightest chance of competing for Ulster in the years to come…. Mickey Harte never dismissed any competition ( did he not lead Tyrone to 6/7 Mc Kenna Cup wins in a row ) as doing well in them led to consistent Championship performances and challenges for titles…. He certainly wouldn't agree with Mickey Grahams philosophy that sliding down the league's makes no difference come Championship….. Cavan need to take all competitions seriously as 2 Ulster titles in 53 years hardly consists of been any way successful when it comes to Championship football….. So when someone on here says for Cavan it should be ALL about Championship is just plain silly and delusional…..

The question was when was the last time it happened. Nothing about trends. If it were about trends, then how's this one: under Mickey Graham, cavan have reached 2 ulster finals in 3 years and lost to the eventual all ireland champions in the other. His ulster championship record is a very very good one. People using league positions to belittle those achievements are saying a lot more about themselves than they are about this Cavan team or management. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 25/03/2022 15:01:08 2407057 Link 2 |

Getting to an Ulster final and been beaten in 10 minutes is no achievement so when you use the word ACHIEVEMENTTS what are they other than our Ulster win over Donegal…? I would like to know… Getting relegated 3 years in a row and keeping your job is probably the biggest achievement of the whole lot…!!!

Nobody is belittling any achievements in Ulster under Mickey. The focus needs to be div1/2 football in the next 2/3 years then the consistency to stay there. If we are regularly playing at a higher level then the chances in Ulster will improve because we will be able to compete better. There's a fairly young panel there and if Mickey can sustain promotions well that great. But an appearance in an Ulster final this year( would be a great bonus) but not gaining promotion next year wouldn't be progress in my eyes. The way things are structured nowadays means Div 1/2 is a major priority towards development . Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 25/03/2022 15:24:09 2407070 Link 0 |
