Replying To blueskies:  "I think its fair to say we will all be delighted once this league is over, it has been nothing but frustrating for everyone.
At the start of the year I would have felt division 2 was the level of this team, but on reflection I don't think we are as good as we think. I actually feel we have regressed so much in the last 2 years and even since last summer. Since that game v Donegal in 2020 we haven't put one decent performance together in league or championship. You would need to seriously question where the team is going in the long term. The whole thing just looks stale at the moment.
This summer will be a defining one for the management, if we were to lose to Antrim and not make a serious tilt at the Tailteann cup I think all parties will need to evaluate the situation. History will be kind to Mickey no matter what, but are we actually a better team than the team he took over in 2018? That was a division one team who were knocked out in the qualifiers by Tyrone after a really brave and gutsy performance.
I know we won an Ulster championship since but we could realistically be the worst team in Ulster at the moment and most definitely in the bottom 3. Take nothing away from 2020 it was one of the best days as a Cavan fan but we want to challenge like that every year not just every 25 years. I'm losing faith that Mickey is the man to lead us to long term and sustainable success. I hope I'm proved wrong but this summer will be huge."
Very well said blueskies.

Some posters just fail to see the bigger picture. In 52 years we have just two titles to show for over half a century worth of effort. An average of one Ulster title every 25 years is a shocking return for a supposedly GAA mad county.

It is abundantly clear that GAA is sorely broken in the county, and all we do every year is hope for the best.

There are those who live in denial and insist that we are much better than we are, but the facts, the stats and the results simply don't support their arguments. And when the stats don't back them up they say "ah well the league doesn't actually matter anyway". Like I said, in total denial.

The criticism I would have of the management is after 10/15 minutes we were leading 1-4 to no score and you have manager and selectors shouting countless instructions to players. It's non stop.
In Ruislip the sideline is very near the stand and every word can be heard. It sounded confusing with players looking over to the sideline all the time.
Let them play, the game is 15 mins old, we are 7 up. They must be doing something right.
1 manager and 3 selectors can't be shouting different instructions at the same time . Players are not robots. They play on confidence. Let them express themselves for 35 mins , then have your chat. Encouragement is what they need not instruction.

I'd like to point out to those asking for Mickey to go that right now it looks like his most likely replacement would be Ricey McMenamin. Think about that for a second.

As for yesterday, it was poor. There's no getting away from that. Gearoid was ok but thought Jason McLoughlin was our best player.

But there's such a drop off in quality with the likes of Ciaran Brady, Oisin Kiernan and Martin Reilly not in the side. There just doesn't seem to be any kind of depth there and that's a huge worry.

We will lose against Antrim if we play like we've played in any of the 6 league games to date and the Corrigan Park nonsense means everyone will be loving it if they beat us.

There is absolutely no substance to that and he will be ran along with Mickey when the time comes in a few weeks.

I don't think he would have been involved only Mickey met him while drinking in Dublin which probably isn't the ideal place to be picking your backroom team.

For those looking to change the manager, you're mistaken.

What good will it do? How many managers have we had since 1969 yet we are never contenders for anything.

Changing the management is missing the point. The GAA apparatus in Cavan isn't working. The problems are nothing whatsoever to do with the manager, the problems are systemic in the administration of the GAA in the county.

I mean how can you say the manager is the problem when no matter who the manager is we still don't even compete in our province never mind at All Ireland level.

Look at the bigger picture. Look at the record of our club teams in Ulster. Look at the record of our underage teams. All in all things are bleak, as they always are. One title every 25 years might gloss over things, but you found out after 1997 that things very quickly reverted back to as you were, and indeed the same happened after 2020.

Well if he is going to stay he needs to buck up his ideas we were never in Division 4 before and he managed to get us there in 3 seasons starting from the very top! No other Cavan manager would have got the opportunity to fulfill that achievement sure we even got rid of one after he got us promotion to Division 1.

Don't compete in our province?

2019 - Made final beaten by Donegal - beat Monaghan and Armagh (both currently Div 1 teams)
2020 - Won the final - beat Monaghan, Antrim, Down and Donegal (2 Div 1 teams)
2021 - Beaten away to eventual All Ireland winners

I am sorry to get in the way of a good moan but we have been competing in our province under Mickey Graham and that is a just a simple fact.

However, I think everyone is rightly very concerned about the current form of the team in Div4 as we head into a tricky 1st round match in Ulster.

We kicked 1-9 from play against London on a good dry pitch with very little wind over 75 minutes.
No disrespect intended to London but that kind of scoring with the amount of possession we had won't win many Ulster Championship games.
Players seem afraid to have shot at the posts when inside the 45m line. They content to persist with lateral and backward passing , then get turned over and end up on the defensive .
This style of football doesn't suit us.
Let the ball in quickly to the 3 inside forwards who can beat their man . Take them on and have a go.
Galligan has a mighty kick out but it's not used often enough. Go long a lot more. Win your ball or get the breaks. This short sh@@e from the back doesn't suit us.
Need to play direct alot more especially against teams like London.

Well done to the team, It wasn't a pretty league performance, but the end result is what matters.

How convenient you started at 2019, how convenient indeed.

Now do 1969 onwards and show us the reality.

I should also add, most people would not regard an 8 point defeat in the first round in 2021 as "competing", but reality has a hard time getting through to some.

Are you serious? I honestly don't get the amount absolute headers of supporters we have in our county. You lot are completely obsessed with League. Fella, I like the league, and I go to all Cavan matches, but you must be mental if you look at our League matches, and then our Championship and then you'd say that we shouldn't have this manager. We got to 2 Ulster finals, winning 1 on the back of successive relegations. So which is more important, really? And you'd have McGleenan, who got us promoted, but did the sum total of ***** all in Championship? You lot are all crazy, we did nothing in Championship for 20 years and you'd go mad at the one manager who changed that, based only on his League results. Who else would take us basket cases if we got rid of the one who bucked the trend? My god...

Exactly. We've competed and beat Division 1 teams in the last 3 years in championship. In fact, in 2020 we beat more Division 1 teams than any other team that year. Maybe if some could see the difference between our League and Championship results. Now I'll be the first to say our League results are brutal since 2019, but when we clearly didn't aim to peak in the League, and then did peak in the Championship then it's as clear as the nose on your face. But we've League obsessives here. They can't see that, couldn't even enjoy our Ulster win due to league results ffs.

Fully agree with your point about being concerned about our current form though, seeing how close it is to Championship. It's different now as you peak differently this year, there's no 2 month break from March to May now. However if we get promoted, get a win against Antrim and are in a strong position in the semi, then I literally don't give a s**t how bad we were in the League if it was used for building and timing our run. This League is lose-lose no matter what happens. Thrash everyone, well you were expected to. Scrape by, well you're brutal that you're struggling in that Division. So lets just get up and forget all about that division.

Mickey Graham is the current manager and I don't feel it would be fair to use results from before his time to determine if his team is competing in Ulster or not.

In fairness while Cavan got to Ulster finals, they were operating in a higher level of football prior to the championship.
In 2019 Cavan were relegated in Division 1, but it was a help playing that level before Championship
Likewise in 20 playing teams like Kildare and Monaghan .

I don't think just dismissing the League to suit your argument of the Championship results stacks up. To be contesting regular in Ulster you need to do well in the League. What teams wins a champiopnship from Division 4?

No Roscommon haven't been in Division 4 in the last 10 years. The lowest they have been was Division 3 in 2014

The bare facts are that Graham has led us all the way down to division 4…. Anyone with an ounce of football knowledge would know playing Div 3/4 football is no preparation for the rough and tumble of Ulster Championship football…. While we deserved to win the Final in 2020 v Donegal the manner in which we reached the final was a pure fluke and could never be repeated… We were beaten in 10 minutes in the previous Final and last year when we met one of the big boys in the first round (Tyrone) we folded…. For the last 20 years unless we are on the handy side of the draw we never get near an Ulster Final…. We can generally handle Monaghan ( usually beat themselves ) but a 1st round meeting with Tyrone/Donegal or even Derry would end in the usual defeat… We can usually get over Fermanagh or Antrim because normally we would be competing at a higher league level than both but for probably the first time in our history ( thanks to Graham ) we are the lowest ranked league team in Ulster… Let's hope this has no baring on our result in the match v Antrim…!!
