Derry weren't spectacular either. I did a deep dive into their results a few pages back. It was only the last 2 matches when they got big wins when they got their big scores up. They nearly got caught one game too when they squeaked a one point win. They were quite average up to that and were not blowing teams away. Teams gets dragged down to a level here. I agree both don't seem like Division 4 teams. Just get the next win, get up and look for Championship. Division 3 will look after itself next year.

Very true we are an aging side. Take Gearoid and the goalkeeper out of the team and where do the scores come from? Both are early to mid-30s now, we can't rely on them forever. Very worrying times, but as long as we keep our heads in the sand and ignore reality like we have been doing since 1969, the odd Ulster title every quarter of a century will keep us happy. Micky leaves a lot to be desired with his use of the panel and progressing players. I haven't seen any players that has come into the squad in his tenure looking like making a difference. That's a major problem, he keeps reverting to the same lads that have been tried for Years from the bench, Murray etc. and they're really not good enough any more, great servants but time to move on. The lads on the panel not getting game time have to be struggling with staying there, given the work they have put in and commitment to sit watching this weekly without getting real time. highballin77 (Cavan) - Posts: 8 - 16/03/2022 10:03:03 2405649 Link 0 |

Gerry Smith, Killian Clarke, Conor Moynagh, Padraig Faulkner and Ciaran Brady were all on the 2014 U20 team that lost to Dublin in the semi final so they would all have 2/3 years until they are 30 unless we were playing them illegally.

What coaching level are you working at yourself. What are you doing to improve coaching level at your own club. Genuine questions as it is easy to be critical but do you do anything about it?

Working with 2 of my clubs underage teams and have done all of the courses available. There's little to no support from the County board and very hard to get courses for our coaches, that's how I know. We are 3 clubs amalgamated and no County Coach has been to any of us in the 4 years I have been involved, We have asked too before you question that. highballin77 (Cavan) - Posts: 8 - 16/03/2022 11:58:54 2405685 Link 0 |

21 in 2014, which means they are 29 this year. Where are you getting the 2/3 years from? FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 16/03/2022 12:37:14 2405699 Link 0 |

James Smith, Luke Fortune, Evan Fortune, Thomas Edward Donohoe, Oisin Pierson, Conor Smith were all given their debuts by Mickey and all played a part in the Ulster win. You say the underage structure isn't up to scratch, yet you want Mickey to replace lads currently on the panel with new players. Who are these new players if they arent coming through at underage? cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 16/03/2022 15:36:02 2405750 Link 0 |

Of course, and young Caoimhin McGovern as well. The reason I only names the ones I did was because they have 100% made a difference, so it completely exposes the lies told by the original poster. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 19/03/2022 11:18:00 2405799 Link 0 |

Any one who has an interest in Gaelic football should watch this years Hogan Cup final. I only seen the second half but it is by far the best football i have ever seen at any level. if only this was what was on offer every weekend. The speed of the game quality and frequency of scores attitude of all the players win the ball take on your man beat him and let the ball on fast was a joy to behold. There was very little if not zero backward passing or indeed sideway passing from either team no dropping men back or double marking. All of the players went for a score when in a position to do so not waiting for the perfect 85% chance to score. I could not take my eyes of it. I would love to know what coaching these young lads have had and what drills they concentrate on. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 519 - 20/03/2022 10:50:08 2405888 Link 0 |

Lovely day here for a game of football. Slight breeze, but nicely warm for the time of year. Lovely setup here too, and the pitch is in great nick. Should be a good game, and nail down promotion if we play as we can. The good conditions give no excuse anyway. Some travelling support too which is great to see, hopefully they'll make enough noise to get behind the lads. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 20/03/2022 11:26:21 2405892 Link 0 |

Got the win and promotion anyway. We were far better than them for most of the game, but not taking goal chances, and them scoring a last second goal had things look tighter than they were. We do make things hard for ourselves, but had enough of a lead to cover that. Anyway, a win and promotion is what we needed and what we got Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 20/03/2022 13:57:14 2405916 Link 0 |

Yeah a win is a win I suppose , was at game and we started like a house on fire but boy do we make it hard for ourselves we were cruising and we proceeded to allow them back into it wit a well taken goal as that was their first opportunity we then pulled away again only to encourage them with sloppy passing and missed opportunities, they have a forward name is Liam Gavaghan and we couldn't handle him he won every ball played in to him shame he wasn't wearing a Cavan shirt it's just so frustrating watching Cavan play because if they played all the first half with the same intensity as they showed in the first 10 minutes game would have been over at half time, hopefully there just pacing themselves because if they don't iron out the sloppiness Antrim will beat them easily. Up Cavan.

No excuses can be made for this team/management combination. Its the worst league performances the last 4 years and an embarrassment tbh. RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 892 - 20/03/2022 16:29:54 2405940 Link 5 |

We re not promoted yet - If Cavan were to lose their final game against Waterford, Tipperary draw with London and either Sligo or Leitrim win their clash, then three teams will finish on 10 points, which means score difference would then apply and a six-point defeat at home to Waterford would see Cavan miss out, in that unlikely scenario.

London had other goal chances also. They opened up the Cavan defence straight after half time, had 1 or 2 goal chances in the first half before they scored Cavan have not impressed in the League, There is no dressing it up. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 20/03/2022 19:22:32 2405996 Link 0 |

Was at the game and don't remember too many goal chances. Don't think the London Keeper was tested apart from one deflection. Although we got off to a good start London could have had 2 goals in the 1st half. We were turned over very easily at times. London stuck to the task and did trouble our full back line . We were poor overall and Galligan nearly made a mess in the last minute on the 20 m line London were in. What in gods name is the Goalkeeper doing out the field past his own players. Who does he think he is ? Niall Morgan or Beggan? Better teams breaking will catch him out. On a foot note. Far too much yapping from the sideline by management. Give your instructions pre match and let them play. Seem to be confusion amongst players with needless instructions. Players need to make up their own minds mid stream. They are not robots. Let them play and express themselves. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 20/03/2022 19:43:04 2406001 Link 0 |

Wasn't able to get to the match but you would have to be concerned at the results we are getting currently, labouring to beat teams we should be beating comfortably. I don't have an explanation but it would have you very worried about our chances in Ulster. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1485 - 20/03/2022 19:55:24 2406007 Link 0 |
