Replying To liosbreac6265:  "No one has cracked Clonguish up to be anything. Any "hype" is coming from people outside the club to try and bring us down. That result was very disappointing as we should have been winning that after a good performance against Slashers and Mostrim's form being poor. Mostrim were brought back into the game after a series of head scratching decisions but that's Longford football....
On another note Killashee last year and Ballymahon this year hopefully clubs and the county board wake up and see our format is not working"
100% agree on the comments on Clonguish. No one in the parish expects this team to win the championship this year or even get to a final. We would be happy to make it out of the group after 2 or 3 years battling relegation. Clonguish had 9 18/19 year olds starting last week. I don't think any club has come close to winning a senior with that amount of youth in its starting 15. It's like there is accounts on here trying to build these young lads up just to have a swipe at them when they do not win. Yes, there will be championships in the club but that will be 3/4 years down the line. We have an excellent minor, under 16 and under 14 teams coming through but it will take time and patience for it to bear fruit at senior. Our lads are young and mistakes will be made and punished at this level. But they have my full support and I wish them the best on Sunday in what will be another very tough task.

Replying To catchturnscore:  "Agreed about the format, far too many one sided games. Our neighbours Westmeath seem to have an ultra competitive format this year, might be one worth copying. Garrycastle relegated to intermediate, hard not to see the same happening to our own Leinster club champs Mullinalaghta in a few years, the big question is can they add one or even two more county titles before the decline . I wouldn't think there are many posters on here who's club as only been senior grade in their lifetime."
Thus is why great see small clubs like mullinaghta Wimbledon no disrespect to bigger clubs they will get more chances as likely stay senior longer with numbers etc

Typo above, 7 not 9....although with Ross and Adam Shields and Johnny Burke to return from injury that number could increase.

Whats with all the "bring the club down" melodrama? Some people have suggested Clonguish will do well or cause an upset this year, hardly controversial and doesn't mean they will win it. In what universe can words placed on a message board "bring the club down"? Couple of lads on here taking it all a bit too personally and need to go outside and get some air. Clonguish have a little way to go yet, but if they can keep this group together and motivated there is a very bright future there. Killoe won the 2012 title with a starting 15 that had average age of 22, and contained a handful of 19 year olds. So it won't be long... providing the club hasn't been reduced to rubble following this post!!! I'm sure the usual WUM's will be along shortly to advise. They never have any bias and are renowned for welcoming all opinions.

"usual WUM's" now that is what is called projection! There were plenty of WUM's when a certain club was playing for the perfect result to knock another club out. That was very good for Killoe in 2012, congratulations. That age profile is surely an outlier. It fails to highlight the two key players on the team. One was a professional athlete to that point for a number of years and the other Sean McCormack was the best inside forward in the county at the time. "Lies, damn lies and statistics", stats guy!

Have all the players that went out to the US for the summer come back now or are there still clubs missing some players?

On cue. As expected.

Anyways, back in the real world... Predicting wins this weekend for Mullinalaghta, Mostrim, Slashers, Abbeylara, Killoe and Dromard. The Slashers-Granard and Clonguish-Dromard games will be close and could go either way. Agree with earlier poster that the current format giving rise to promoted team getting beaten up a stick in senior championship, just isn't working. It's so simple to even the numbers out in each of the three championships, but a culture of lobbying has crept in over past 20 years on that front, so it won't happen. It's not the end of the world making the drop to Intermediate, the stigma around it in Longford is very strange - as if every senior club thinks they will be senior forever even though all bar Slashers have been intermediate before. I'm old enough to remember most of todays senior clubs in Intermediate. So I actually agree with Liosbreac's comments on swallowing pride and getting on with it.

Anyone trying (or tried) Clubber?

I was gonna try it for the Killoe game last weekend as I don't live locally but it was 11euro for what was always gonna be a one sided game so didn't bother. On the intermediate/junior grade issue in longford , Slashers and Mostrim the only 2 that have been senior as far as I go back , so its not a disaster to down grade and build up a winning culture. County board needs to enforce a change for the good of all, it can't be fun training all year and losing a couple of games by 15+ points.

We are still without Jack Duggan. His team won the Chicago Championship and are playing in the North American Championship now. The list of absentees for us has now grown to 8, mostly injuries along with Duggan away and Gerry Moore suspended for the weekend.

Congratulations to Matt Duffy from Dromard on his contract with Austraillian Rulesside Carlton. While he will be a big loss to Dromard and Longford it is a great opportunity for Matt.
The hope is that if he returns in a few years time, he will be a wonderful asset to both Dromard and Longford.

Colmcille might not be completely dead yet. Apparently still have a couple of their better players to add to yesterday. Were the better team for the majority of yesterday's game. Actually held Mullinalaghta to 4 points from the 10th minute on.

Intermediate Championship going the way we all expected. Looking like ourselves and Sean Connollys should be in the final but cannot count out Kenagh either.
Senior is getting very interesting.
Abbey could be gone from it by the next round.
In the other group there are still lots to play for.
Even Granard, who have got off to a flying start could be knocked out.
The only one guaranteed a spot in the quarters is Dromard as they should beat Ballymahon in their last game.

Big win for Rathcline against Abbey alright. Strange team Rathcline, must have been very poor against Killoe the previous week so certainly didn't see that result coming. Oran Kenny must have been on fire with 1-9. Abbey under pressure now.
